Claims
- 1. A compound having the formula ##STR102## wherein R and R.sub.1 are independently selected from hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 linear or branched alkyl and substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 linear or branched alkyl having 1-3 substituents selected from halo, hydroxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy
- R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 linear or branched alkyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkenyl
- R.sub.3 is tetrahydronaphthyl or indanyl
- R.sub.4 is OH or ##STR103## wherein R.sub.b is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 linear or branched alkyl and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6, (i) when separate, are independently selected from H, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 linear or branched alkyl and monosubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 linear or branched alkyl wherein the substituent is phenyl or 3,4-dimethoxyphenyl provided that when one of R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 is said substituted alkyl group, the other is hydrogen, and (ii) when joined together with the N atom forms ##STR104## wherein Z is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 branched or linear alkyl and pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof.
- 2. A compound of claim 1 wherein R is hydrogen.
- 3. A compound of claim 2 wherein R.sub.2 is hydrogen.
- 4. A compound of claim 3 wherein R.sub.4 is hydroxy.
- 5. A compound of claim 4 wherein R.sub.5 is hydrogen.
- 6. A compound of claim 1 wherein the formula is ##STR105##
- 7. A compound of claim 6 wherein R is hydrogen.
- 8. A compound of claim 6 wherein R.sub.2 is hydrogen.
- 9. A compound of claim 1 wherein R.sub.3 is 5, 6, 7, 8, tetrahydronaphthyl.
- 10. Compound of claim 9 wherein R.sub.2 is H and R.sub.4 is OH.
- 11. Compound of claim 10 wherein R is hydrogen.
- 12. Compound of claim 11 wherein R.sub.1 is CF.sub.3.
- 13. Compound of claim 12 wherein R.sub.5 is H.
- 14. Compound of claim 13 wherein R.sub.6 is branched or cyclic C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkyl.
- 15. Compound of claim 14 wherein R.sub.6 is tert. butyl.
- 16. A compound of claim 1 wherein the formula is ##STR106##
- 17. A compound of claim 16 wherein R is hydrogen.
- 18. A compound of claim 17 wherein R.sub.2 is hydrogen.
- 19. A compound of claim 18 wherein R is hydrogen and R.sub.6 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl.
- 20. Pharmaceutical composition for use as an antihypertensive or .beta.-blocking agent comprising an effective amount of a compound of claim 1 and a pharmacologically acceptable compounding agent.
- 21. Pharmaceutical composition for use as an antihypertensive or .beta.-adrenergic blocking agent comprising an effective amount of a compound of claim 9 in combination with a pharmacologically acceptable compounding agent.
- 22. Method of treating animals having hypertension which comprises administering an antihypertensive amount of compound of claim 1.
BACKGROUN OF THE INVENTION
This is a division of application Ser. No. 801,120, filed May 26, 1977 which in turn is a continuation of application Ser. No. 641,420 filed Dec. 17, 1975, now U.S. Pat. No. 4,134,983 which in turn is a continuation-in-part of application Ser. No. 554,372 filed Mar. 3, 1975, now abandoned.
