Claims
- 1. An ammonium salt of a low-electrolyte containing sulfomethylated lignin particularly suited for use as a dye or a coal-water slurry additive having about 1 mole or less sulfonation per 1,000 grams of lignin and an inorganic electrolyte content in an aqueous medium of from about 0.5 to 3.0% by weight based on the dry weight of the lignin.
- 2. The ammonium salt of claim 1 having a pH of from 1.0 to 12.0.
- 3. The ammonium salt of claim 2 having a pH of 7.0.
- 4. An ammonium salt of a low-electrolyte containing sulfomethylated lignin product particularly suited for use as an additive in dyestuff compositions and coal-water slurries having a sulfonation of about 1.6 moles or greater per 1,000 grams of lignin and an inorganic electrolyte content of between about 5.0% to 13.0% by weight based on dry weight of the lignin.
- 5. The ammonium salt of claim 4 having a pH of from 1.0 to 12.0.
- 6. The ammonium salt of claim having a pH of 7.0.
