Claims
- 1. An apparatus for manufacturing a photographic film cassette having a cassette shell, a spool rotatably mounted in said cassette shell, and a photographic filmstrip wound about said spool, said apparatus comprising:means for transporting a long strip of photographic film longitudinally in a first direction along a film transport path; means for stopping said transporting means when said long strip of photographic film has been transported by a predetermined length in said first direction; means for cutting said long strip of photographic film into an individual photographic filmstrip in cooperation with said stopping means; means for holding a trailing end of said individual photographic filmstrip in cooperation with said cutting means and securing said trailing end to a spool by moving said filmstrip by a given distance in a second direction reverse to said first direction; means for winding said individual photographic filmstrip on said spool by rotating said spool.
- 2. An apparatus as recited in claim 1, wherein said cassette shell consists of a pair of shell halves, and said apparatus further comprises means for joining said shell halves together after inserting said spool, with said individual photographic filmstrip wound thereon, between said shell halves.
- 3. An apparatus as recited in claim 1, wherein said holding means holds said trailing end immediately before or after said cutting means cuts said long strip of photographic film.
- 4. An apparatus as recited in claim 3, wherein said holding means holds said trailing end by vacuum suction.
- 5. An apparatus as recited in claim 4, wherein said trailing end is inserted in a slit formed in a spool core of said spool to be engaged with claws extending into said slit.
- 6. An apparatus as recited in claim 3, wherein said holding means comprises:a first means for holding said trailing end of said photographic filmstrip and transferring said individual photographic filmstrip from said film transport path to a second path; and a second means for holding and moving said individual photographic filmstrip in said second path by said given distance in said second direction to secure said trailing end to said spool placed downstream of said second path in said second direction.
- 7. An apparatus as recited in claim 6, wherein said first means is disposed above said film transport path and shifts said individual photographic filmstrip vertically from said film transport path toward said second means which is disposed below said film transport path.
- 8. An apparatus as recited in claim 7, wherein said second means comprises a base portion, a table slidable on said base portion, a spring urging said table to protrude from said base portion in said second direction, and a vacuum suction device incorporated in said table, said base portion being moved in said second direction relative to said table while lowering power of said vacuum suction device, so as to move said individual photographic filmstrip in said second direction.
- 9. An apparatus as recited in claim 1, wherein said winding means comprises:a turntable; a plurality of chuck mechanisms mounted to said turntable and disposed around a rotational axis of said turntable, each of said chuck mechanisms holding an individual of said spool at opposite ends of said spool in parallel with said rotational axis; and a drive mechanism for rotating said turntable and said chuck mechanisms such that said spool is seriatim moved in a position where said trailing end is secured to said spool and thereafter said spool is rotated to wind said individual photographic filmstrip thereon.
