Claims
- 1. A receiver cover, comprising:
a stationary member including a coupling aperture configured to be secured on an end of a receiver and an access aperture through which a receptacle of the receiver is exposed; a door positionable over said access aperture; a hinge securing said door to said stationary member, said hinge comprising at least one living hinge configured to bias said door toward said stationary member.
- 2. The receiver cover of claim 1, wherein said living hinge includes:
a substantially planar member; and an elongate region of reduced thickness adjacent to said substantially planar member to at least one of a hinge member and said door, said elongate region having a relaxed position when said substantially planar member is substantially within a plane of said door and a stressed position when said substantially planar member is removed from a plane of said door.
- 3. The receiver cover of claim 2, wherein said living hinge further includes:
at least one aperture formed through said substantially planar member and configured to receive a tab protruding from said stationary member.
- 4. The receiver cover of claim 1, further comprising:
at least one size-adjustment element configured to be positioned within said coupling aperture of said stationary member to reduce an effective size thereof.
- 5. The receiver cover of claim 4, wherein said size-adjustment element comprises four substantially planar peripheral walls of substantially equal lengths arranged in a substantially square configuration having outer dimensions that facilitate disposal thereof within said coupling aperture, said four substantially planar peripheral walls defining a reduced-size coupling aperture.
- 6. The receiver cover of claim 5, wherein said size-adjustment element further includes:
a substantially planar ledge oriented substantially perpendicular relative to planes of said four peripheral walls, an inner surface of said substantially planar ledge configured to abut an end of a trailer hitch receiver and an outer surface of said substantially planar ledge configured to abut an inner surface of the cover.
- 7. The receiver cover of claim 5, wherein at least wall of said four substantially planar peripheral walls includes two discontinuous sections with a gap therebetween.
- 8. The receiver cover of claim 1, wherein said stationary member further includes a guide for maintaining said door in a closed position and said door further includes a securing element configured to engage said guide.
- 9. The receiver cover of claim 8, wherein said guide and said securing element comprise biasing surfaces that are configured to abut one another when said door is in said closed position.
- 10. The receiver cover of claim 1, further comprising:
a biasing element.
- 11. The receiver cover of claim 10, wherein said biasing element employs a magnetic field to bias said door toward said stationary member.
- 12. The receiver cover of claim 1, wherein said stationary member is configured for slight size adjustment.
- 13. The receiver cover of claim 12, wherein said stationary member comprises a gap in at least one side wall thereof.
- 14. A size-adjustment element for a cover for a trailer hitch receiver, comprising:
four substantially planar peripheral walls of substantially equal lengths arranged in a substantially square configuration having outer dimensions that facilitate disposal thereof within a coupling aperture of the cover, said four substantially planar peripheral walls defining a reduced-size coupling aperture.
- 15. The size-adjustment element of claim 14, further comprising:
a substantially planar ledge oriented substantially perpendicular relative to planes of said four peripheral walls, an inner surface of said substantially planar ledge configured to abut an end of said trailer hitch receiver, and an outer surface of said substantially planar ledge configured to abut an inner surface of the cover.
- 16. The size-adjustment element of claim 14, wherein at least wall of said four substantially planar peripheral walls includes two discontinuous sections with a gap therebetween.
- 17. A method for altering an effective size of a coupling aperture of a cover for a receiver of a trailer hitch, comprising:
introducing at least one size-adjustment element including a reduced-size coupling aperture into the coupling aperture, said at least one size-adjustment element having outer dimensions slightly smaller than inner dimensions of the coupling aperture and inner dimensions at least as large as outer dimensions of the receiver.
- 18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:
introducing at least another size-adjustment element into said reduced-size coupling aperture of said at least one size-adjustment element, a reduced-size coupling aperture of said at least another size-adjustment element having inner dimensions which are about the same as or slightly larger than the outer dimensions of the receiver.
- 19. The method of claim 17, wherein said introducing comprises at slightly adjusting a size of said size-adjustment element.
- 20. The method of claim 17, further comprising:
selecting said at least one size-adjustment element to have an overall thickness which provides said reduced-size coupling aperture with inner dimensions that are about the same as or slightly larger than outer dimensions of the receiver.
