Claims
- 1. A display control apparatus in a system having a flat panel display (FPD) unit, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing CRT display unit gradation data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to the CRT palette means and the FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data from the CRT display unit gradation data stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the CRT display unit gradation data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said system having said FPD unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system setup.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1 further comprising palette data setting means for, in synchronism with the storing of the CRT display unit gradation data in said CRT palette means, storing the FPD unit gradation data generated by said FPD unit gradation data generating means in said FPD palette means.
- 6. A display control apparatus in a system which is equipped with a flat panel display (FPD) unit for performing an n-level gradation display and which can optionally be connected to a monochromatic CRT display unit for performing an m-level (m>n) gradation display, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to the CRT palette means and the FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data from said monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data.
- 8. An apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said system which is equipped with said FPD unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system startup.
- 9. An apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 10. An apparatus according to claim 6 further comprising:
- palette data setting means for, in synchronism with the storing of the CRT display unit gradation data in said CRT palette means, storing the FPD unit gradation data generated by said FPD unit gradation data generating means in said FPD palette means.
- 11. A display control apparatus in a system having a flat panel display (FPD) unit, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing CRT display unit color data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to said CRT palette means and said FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data from the CRT display unit color data stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the CRT display unit color data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 12. An apparatus according to claim 11, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means generates the FPD unit gradation data by performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the CRT display unit color data.
- 13. An apparatus according to claim 11, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises:
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the CRT display unit color data and for outputting a predetermined number of gradation parameters; and
- a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the gradation parameters supplied from said arithmetic means and the FPD unit gradation data.
- 14. An apparatus according to claim 13, wherein said system having said flat panel display unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit color data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the CRT display unit color data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system setup.
- 15. An apparatus according to claim 13, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 16. An apparatus according to claim 11, further comprising palette data setting means for, in synchronism with the storing of the CRT display unit gradation data in said CRT palette means, storing the FPD unit gradation data generated by said FPD unit gradation data generating means in said FPD palette means.
- 17. A display control apparatus in a system which is equipped with a flat panel display (FPD) unit as a standard I/O device for performing an n-level gradation display and which can optionally be connected to a color CRT display unit for performing an m-color (m>n) display, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing color CRT display unit color data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to said CRT palette means and said FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data from the color CRT display unit color data stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the color CRT display unit color data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 18. An apparatus according to claim 17, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises:
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation of the color CRT display unit color data and for outputting a predetermined number of gradation parameters; and
- a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the gradation parameters and the FPD unit gradation data.
- 19. An apparatus according to claim 18, wherein said system which is equipped with said FPD unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the color CRT display unit color data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the color CRT display unit color data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system setup.
- 20. An apparatus according to claim 18, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 21. A display control apparatus in a system which includes a flat panel display (FPD) unit as a standard I/O device for performing an n-level gradation display and which can arbitrarily be connected to one of a monochromatic CRT display unit or a color CRT display unit for performing an m-level (m>n) gradation display, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and color CRT display unit color data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data;
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the color CRT display unit color data stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting a gradation parameter;
- selecting means, coupled to the arithmetic means and the CRT palette means, for receiving one of the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data from said CRT palette means and the gradation parameter from said arithmetic means, and for outputting a selected data corresponding to the received monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data when said monochromatic CRT display unit is connected, and corresponding to the received gradation parameter when said color CRT display unit is connected; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to the selecting means, and the FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data on the basis of the selected data output from said selecting means, and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and the color CRT display unit color data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 22. An apparatus according to claim 21, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the FPD unit gradation data and one of the CRT display unit gradation data from said CRT palette means and the gradation parameter from said arithmetic means.
- 23. An apparatus according to claim 22, wherein said system which is equipped with said FPD unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system setup.
- 24. An apparatus according to claim 22, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 25. An apparatus according to claim 22 further comprising palette data setting means for, in synchronism with the storing of the CRT display unit gradation data in said CRT palette means, storing the FPD unit gradation data generated by said FPD unit gradation data generating means in said FPD palette means.
- 26. A display control large scale integrated (LSI) circuit constituted by highly integrated semiconductor elements, comprising:
- a CRT palette for storing one of monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and color CRT display unit color data;
- a FPD palette for storing flat panel display (FPD) unit gradation data;
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the color CRT display unit color data stored in said CRT palette and for outputting a gradation parameter;
- selecting means, coupled to said CRT palette and said arithmetic means, for receiving one of the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data from said CRT palette and the gradation parameter from said arithmetic means, and for outputting the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data when said monochromatic CRT display unit is connected, and for outputting the gradation parameter when said color CRT display unit is connected;
- conversion means for storing a correspondence between the FPD unit gradation data and one of the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data stored in said CRT palette and the gradation parameter from said arithmetic means, and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data on the basis a change in one of the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and the gradation parameter output from said selecting means;
- first output means for outputting one of the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and the color CRT display unit color data stored in said CRT palette; and
- second output means for outputting the FPD unit gradation data stored in said FPD palette.
- 27. A display control apparatus in a system having a flat panel display (FPD) unit, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing CRT display unit gradation data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to the FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data from the CRT display unit gradation data stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the CRT display unit gradation data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 28. An apparatus according to claim 27, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data.
- 29. An apparatus according to claim 28, wherein said system having said FPD unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system setup.
- 30. An apparatus according to claim 28, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 31. An apparatus according to claim 27, further comprising palette data setting means for, in synchronism with the storing of the CRT display unit gradation data in said CRT palette means, storing the FPD unit gradation data, generated by said FPD unit gradation data generating means, in said FPD palette means.
- 32. A display control apparatus in a system which is equipped with a flat panel display unit for performing an n-level gradation display and which can optionally be connected to a monochromatic CRT display unit for performing an m-level (m>n) gradation display, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to the FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data from said monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data to be stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 33. An apparatus according to claim 32, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data.
- 34. An apparatus according to claim 33, wherein said system which is equipped with said FPD unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system startup.
- 35. An apparatus according to claim 33, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 36. An apparatus according to claim 32 further comprising:
- palette data setting means for, in synchronism with the storing of the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data in said CRT palette means, storing the FPD unit gradation data generated by said FPD unit gradation data generating means in said FPD palette means.
- 37. A display control apparatus in a system having a flat panel display (FPD) unit, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing CRT display unit color data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to said FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data from the CRT display unit color data to be stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the CRT display unit color data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 38. An apparatus according to claim 37, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means generates the FPD unit gradation data by performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the CRT display unit color data.
- 39. An apparatus according to claim 37, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises:
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the CRT display unit color data and for outputting a predetermined number of gradation parameters; and
- a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the gradation parameters supplied from said arithmetic means and the FPD unit gradation data.
- 40. An apparatus according to claim 39, wherein said system having said flat panel display unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit color data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the CRT display unit color data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system setup.
- 41. An apparatus according to claim 39, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 42. An apparatus according to claim 37, further comprising palette data setting means for, in synchronism with the storing of the CRT display unit gradation data in said CRT palette means, storing the FPD unit gradation data generated by said FPD unit gradation data generating means in said FPD palette means.
- 43. A display control apparatus in a system which is equipped with a flat panel display (FPD) unit as a standard I/O device for performing an n-level gradation display and which can arbitrarily be connected to a color CRT display unit for performing an m-color (m>n) display, the display control apparatus comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing color CRT display unit color data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to said FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data from the color CRT display unit color data to be stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the color CRT display unit color data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 44. An apparatus according to claim 43, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises:
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the color CRT display unit color data and for outputting a predetermined number of gradation parameters; and
- a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the gradation parameters and the FPD unit gradation data.
- 45. An apparatus according to claim 44, wherein said system which is equipped with said FPD unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the color CRT display unit color data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the color CRT display unit color data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system setup.
- 46. An apparatus according to claim 44, wherein said conversion table is read/write accessible and comprises means for arbitrarily changing a content of said conversion table.
- 47. A display control apparatus in a system which includes a flat panel display (FPD) unit as a standard I/O device for performing an n-level gradation display and which can arbitrarily be connected to one of a monochromatic CRT display unit and a color CRT display unit for performing an m-level (m>n) gradation display, comprising:
- CRT palette means for storing monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data and color CRT display unit color data;
- FPD palette means for storing FPD unit gradation data;
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the color CRT display unit color data stored in said CRT palette means and for outputting a gradation parameter;
- selecting means, coupled to the arithmetic means and the CRT palette means, for receiving one of the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data from said CRT palette means and the gradation parameter from said arithmetic means, and for outputting a selected data corresponding to the received monochromatic CRT display unit gradation data when said monochromatic CRT display unit is connected, and corresponding to the received gradation parameter when said color CRT display unit is connected; and
- FPD unit gradation data generating means, coupled to the selecting means and the FPD palette means, for generating the FPD unit gradation data on the basis of the selected data output from said selecting means, and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data to update said FPD palette means in response to a change in the monochromatic CRT display unit gradation and the color CRT display unit color data stored in the CRT palette means.
- 48. An apparatus according to claim 47, wherein said FPD unit gradation data generating means comprises a conversion table for storing a correspondence between the FPD unit gradation data and one of the CRT display unit gradation data from said CRT palette means and the gradation parameter from said arithmetic means.
- 49. An apparatus according to claim 48, wherein said system which is equipped with said FPD unit comprises a basic input and output system (BIOS) for storing a correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data, and means for setting the correspondence between the CRT display unit gradation data and the FPD unit gradation data from said BIOS to said conversion table upon system setup.
- 50. An apparatus according to claim 48 further comprising palette data setting means for, in synchronism with the storing of the CRT display unit gradation data in said CRT palette means, storing the FPD unit gradation data generated by said FPD unit gradation data generating means in said FPD palette means.
- 51. A display control apparatus in a system having a flat panel display (FPD) unit, the display control apparatus comprising:
- a CRT palette for storing CRT display unit data;
- a FPD palette for storing flat panel display (FPD) unit gradation data;
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the CRT display unit data stored in said CRT palette and for outputting a gradation parameter; and
- conversion table means for storing a correspondence between the FPD unit gradation data and the gradation parameter from said arithmetic means, and for outputting the FPD unit gradation data in accordance with the gradation parameter output from said arithmetic means.
- 52. A display control apparatus in a system having a flat panel display (FPD) unit, the display control apparatus comprising:
- a CRT palette for storing CRT display unit data;
- arithmetic means for performing a predetermined arithmetic operation on the CRT display unit data stored in said CRT palette and for outputting gradation data; and
- an FPD palette for storing the gradation data from the arithmetic means as updated gradation data in response to a change in the CRT display unit data stored in the CRT palette.
