Claims
- 1. A flame-retardant polymer composition, comprising:a crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer; a copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin; and a flame-retardant inorganic filler; wherein the at least one alpha-olefin comprises from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, wherein the copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin comprises a density greater than or equal to 0.86 g/cm3 and less than or equal to 0.90 g/cm3, wherein the copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin further comprises a Composition Distribution Index greater than or equal to 45%, and wherein the Composition Distribution Index is defined as a weight percentage of copolymer molecules having an alpha-olefin content within 50% of an average total molar content of alpha-olefin.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin further comprises a diene.
- 3. The composition of claim 1, wherein the copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin comprises a melting enthalpy greater than or equal to 30 J/g and less than or equal to 60 J/g.
- 4. The composition of claim 1, wherein the copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin comprises a molecular weight distribution index greater than or equal to 1.5 and less than or equal to 3.5.
- 5. The composition of claim 1, wherein the copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin is obtained by copolymerization of corresponding monomers in a presence of a single-site catalyst.
- 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one alpha-olefin is 1-hexene.
- 7. The composition of claim 1, wherein the at least one alpha-olefin is 1-octene.
- 8. The composition of claim 1, wherein the crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer comprises a melting enthalpy greater than or equal to 75 J/g.
- 9. The composition of claim 1, wherein the crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer is present in an amount greater than or equal to 10%-by-weight and less than or equal to 60%-by-weight,wherein the copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin is present in an amount greater than or equal to 40%-by-weight and less than or equal to 90%-by-weight, and wherein the percentages are relative to a total weight of polymeric components.
- 10. The composition of claim 1, wherein the crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer is present in an amount greater than or equal to 20%-by-weight and less than or equal to 40%-by-weight,wherein the copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin is present in an amount greater than or equal to 60%-by-weight and less than or equal to 80%-by-weight, and wherein the percentages are relative to a total weight of polymeric components.
- 11. The composition of claim 1, wherein the inorganic filler is an inorganic oxide or hydroxide.
- 12. The composition of claim 1, wherein the inorganic filler is one or more of:magnesium hydroxide; aluminum hydroxide; and alumina trihydrate (Al2O3·3H2O).
- 13. The composition of claim 1, wherein the inorganic filler is present in an amount greater than or equal to 10%-by-weight and less than or equal to 80%-by-weight, andwherein the percentages are relative to a total weight of the flame-retardant polymer composition.
- 14. The composition of claim 1, wherein the inorganic filler is present in an amount greater than or equal to 30%-by-weight and less than or equal to 70%-by-weight, andwherein the percentages are relative to a total weight of the flame-retardant polymer composition.
- 15. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a coupling agent.
