Claims
- 1. An assembly of mated molded parts comprising:
- a first part having first and second mating surfaces, each of said mating surfaces having at least one protrusion extending therefrom and terminating in a head, said protrusions being fracturable;
- a second part having first and second surfaces, each of said mating surfaces of said first part mating with said first and second mating surfaces, respectively, of said second part, said first and second surfaces on each of said first and second parts being disposed on different sides of a void;
- each of said mating surfaces of said second part having a recess enveloping said protrusion and interlocking with said head, whereby said first part may be separated from said second part by readily breaking said protrusion creating break lines, and further whereby said first and second parts may be precisely realigned following breaking along the break lines.
- 2. The assembly of claim 27 wherein said head is initially joined to said at least one protrusion by a neck portion providing a breaking zone of reduced cross-sectional area.
- 3. The assembly of claim 2 wherein each of said protrusions narrows outwardly from the mating surface from which it extends.
- 4. The assembly of claim 3 further comprising a bore formed in said first and second parts for the insertion of a fastener for holding said first and second parts in assembled relationship.
- 5. An assembly of mated molded parts comprising:
- first and second parts each having mating surfaces mated together on different sides of a void;
- each mating surface of said first part integrally formed with a protrusion extending outwardly from said mating surface, each of said protrusions capable of ready fracture;
- said second part being molded in place with respect to said first part, whereby each mating surface of said second part interfits precisely with the mating surface of said first part, whereby each of said protrusions is enveloped by said second part, whereby said first and second parts can be separated and realigned by fracturing and realigning said protrusions.
- 6. The assembly of claim 5 wherein each of said protrusions terminates in a head interlocking with said second part.
- 7. The assembly of claim 6 wherein said head is joined to said protrusion at a neck of reduced cross sectional area, and whereby said first and second parts may be separated by pulling said parts apart until said neck breaks.
- 8. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said protrusion narrows outwardly from said mating surface of said first part.
- 9. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said first and second parts are formed of cast metal.
- 10. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said first and second parts are formed of molded plastic.
- 11. The assembly of claim 5 further comprising coaligned bores formed in said first and second parts for the insertion of fasteners for holding said first and second parts in assembled relationship.
