Claims
- 1. An assembly for extending the length of a guidewire, the assembly comprising:
- (a) essentially straight elongated means;
- (b) resilient tubular means preshaped in a non-straight configuration; and
- (c) sleeve means adapted for placement about the resilient tubular means for forcing the resilient tubular means into a straighter configuration;
- wherein the resilient tubular means is adapted to receive the elongated means while the resilient tubular means is in the straighter configuration.
- 2. A method of extending the length of a guidewire, the method comprising:
- (a) providing an assembly comprising essentially straight elongated means; resilient tubular means preshaped in a non-straight configuration; and sleeve means adapted for placement about the resilient tubular means for forcing the resilient tubular means into a straighter configuration; wherein the resilient tubular means is adapted to receive the elongated means while the resilient tubular means is in the straighter configuration;
- (b) disposing the sleeve means about the resilient tubular means to force the resilient tubular means into a straighter configuration;
- (c) inserting the essentially straight elongated means into the resilient tubular means while the resilient tubular means is in the straighter configuration; and
- (d) removing the sleeve means from the resilient tubular means while the essentially straight elongated means is inserted therein, thereby allowing the resilient tubular means to return at least partially to the non-straight configuration.
