Claims
- 1. A process for stabilizing a lubricant, hydraulic oil or metal-working fluid against oxidative degradation which comprises
- incorporating into said lubricant, hydraulic oil or metal-working fluid 0.05-5% by weight, based on the total weight of lubricant, hydraulic oil or metal-working fluid composition, of at least one compound of formula I ##STR23## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently of each other C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, unsubstituted or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkyl-, Cl-, Br-, NO.sub.2 -, OH- or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkoxy substituted phenyl or naphthyl, or benzyl,
- R.sup.3 is hydrogen or methyl,
- R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently of each other hydrogen, methyl, methoxy, -Cl or -NO.sub.2, and R.sup.4 additionally in formula I is a radical of formula III ##STR24## in which R.sup.15 and R.sup.16 are independently of each other hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.9 -alkyl, unsubstituted or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl-substituted phenyl, or benzyl, .alpha.-methylbenzyl, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylbenzyl, or R.sup.15 and R.sup.16 are, together with the C atom to which they are bonded, a 5-, 6- or 7-membered ring, with the proviso that when R.sup.4 is a radical of formula III, R.sup.5 is hydrogen, and in which furthermore R.sup.6 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 -alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 -alkenyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 -aralkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 alkaryl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkyl, Cl-, Br-, Br-, I-, NO.sub.2 -, OH- or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkoxy-ring substituted benzyl, and
- R.sup.13 is hydrogen or methyl.
- 2. A process according to claim 1 where in the compounds of formula I, R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 are independently of each other C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl.
- 3. A process according to claim 2 where in R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 are independently of each other methyl or ethyl.
- 4. A process according to claim 1 where in the compounds of formula I, R.sup.3 is hydrogen.
- 5. A process according to claim 1 where in the compounds of formula I, R.sup.4 or R.sup.5 are independently of each other hydrogen or methyl.
- 6. A process according to claim 11 where in the compounds of formula I, R.sup.4 is a radical of formula III.
- 7. A process according to claim 1 where in the compounds of formula I, R.sup.6 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -alkenyl or benzyl.
- 8. A process according to claim 7 wherein R.sup.6 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, allyl, methallyl or benzyl.
- 9. A process according to claim 1 where in the compounds of formula I, R.sup.2 is methyl, R.sup.3 is hydrogen, R.sup.1 and R.sup.13 are methyl, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are hydrogen and R.sup.6 is methyl, allyl or benzyl.
- 10. A process according to claim 11 where in the compounds of formula I, R.sup.13 is methyl.
- 11. A process according to claim 11 for stabilizing a lubricant or a hydraulic oil.
- 12. A process according to claim 11 wherein the compound of formula I is 1,2,2,4-tetramethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline.
