Claims
- 1. A catalytic process for the production of high octane value gasoline containing tertiary alkyl ethers with a reduced rate of catalyst deactivation comprising:
- contacting a feedstream comprising C.sub.5 + hydrocarbons rich in isoolefins and containing dienes and alpha olefins, an alkanol feedstream and a cofed hydrogen feedstream with regenerable, acidic metallosilicate catalyst particles, said catalyst containing zeolite beta and Group VIIIA metal, in an etherification zone under etherification and alpha olefin hydroisomerization conditions whereby a portion of said alpha olefins are converted to internal olefins and an effluent stream is produced comprising high octane value gasoline containing alkyl tertiary alkyl ether, unconverted isoolefin and unconverted alkano and the rate of catalyst deactivation is reduced and passing said effluent stream to a second etherification zone containing acidic resin catalyst particles under etherification conditions whereby a portion of said unconverted isoolefin and unconverted alkanol is converted to alkyl tertiary alkyl ether at a lower temperature.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said metallosilicate catalyst comprises aluminosilicate zeolite.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein said catalyst comprises palladium and/or platinum.
- 4. The process of claim 1, wherein said catalyst comprises zeolite Beta and palladium.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein said C.sub.5 + hydrocarbons stream comprises olefinic gasoline from a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) process.
- 6. The process of claim 1 including the further step of separating the product stream from said second etherification zone in a debutanizer to recover a debutanizer bottom stream comprising C.sub.5 + gasoline hydrocarbons rich in said alkyl tertiary alkyl ether said bottom stream having a bromine number and Reid vapor pressure at least 5% lower then said C.sub.5 + hydrocarbon feedstream and having an oxygen content of at least 0.5 weight percent.
- 7. The process of claim 1 wherein said internal olefins comprise olefins having a higher octane value than said isomerized alpha olefins.
- 8. The process of claim 1 wherein said alkanol includes methanol, ethanol, isopropanol and 2-butanol.
- 9. The process of claim 1 wherein said alkanol comprises methanol and said alkyl tertiary alkyl ether comprises methyl tertiary amyl ether (TAME).
- 10. The process of claim 1 wherein said etherification conditions comprise temperature between about 100.degree. and 500.degree. F., pressure between about 100 and 1000 psig, C.sub.5 + hydrocarbon feed rate between about 0.1 and 10 weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) based on catalyst, and hydrogen flow rate between about 10 and 2000 SCF/Bbl.
- 11. The process of claim 1 wherein said etherification conditions comprise temperature of about 150.degree.-400.degree. F., pressure of about 200-600 psig, C.sub.5 + hydrocarbon feed rate of about 0.5-5 weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) based on catalyst, and hydrogen flow rate of about 50-1000 SCF/Bbl.
