Claims
- 1. In a vapor phase process for the preparation of unsaturated hydrocarbons comprising:
- oxidative dehydrogentaion of a stream of hydrocarbon compounds to produce a product stream comprising unsaturated hydrocarbon product and as an impurity carbonyl compounds the improvement which comprises contacting said product stream, which contains less than 1 mol percent free oxygen and from 3 to 30 mols of steam per mol of total organic compounds, in vapor phase at a temperature of at least 250.degree. C. with a solid catalyst comprising an oxide, salt or hydroxide of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of elements of Periodic Table Groups 8, 1b, 2b, 4b, 6b and 7b, an oxide, salt or hydroxide of an alkali metal of Periodic Table Group 1a and an oxide, salt or hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal of Periodic Table Group 2a, thus removing at least 50 weight percent of the carbonyl originally present.
- 2. The process according to claim 1 wherein said temperature is in the range of 450.degree. to 800.degree. C.
- 3. The process according to claim 2 wherein said oxidative dehydrogenation is catalytic.
- 4. The process according to claim 1 wherein said catalyst comprises at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn and Zr and at least one element selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K, Rb, Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba.
- 5. The process according to claim 4 wherein said metal comprises Zn.
- 6. The process according to claim 1 wherein said stream of hydrocarbon compounds comprise principally normal C.sub.4 hydrocarbons, and said product stream comprises butadiene-1,3.
- 7. In a vapor phase process for the preparation of unsaturated hydrocarbons comprising:
- catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of a feed stream of hydrocarbon compounds having 4 to 8 carbon atoms to produce an unsaturated hydrocarbon product stream having a greater degree of ethylenic unsaturation than said feed stream and containing carbonyl compounds as an impurity the improvement which comprises contacting said product stream, which contains less than 1 mol percent free oxygen and from 3 to 30 mols of steam per mol of total organic compounds, in vapor phase at a temperature in the range of 450.degree. to 800.degree. C. with a solid catalyst for destroying said carbonyl compounds, said solid catalyst comprising an oxide, salt or hydroxide of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn and Zr, an oxide, salt or hydroxide of an alkali metal selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K and Rb, and an oxide, salt or hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba, thus removing at least 50 weight percent of the carbonyl originally present.
- 8. The process according to claim 7 wherein said metal comprises Zn.
- 9. The process according to claim 7 wherein said metal comprises Fe.
- 10. The process according to claim 7 wherein said metal comprises Zn and Fe.
- 11. The process according to claim 7 wherein Fe comprises the major metal component by weight.
- 12. The process according to claim 11 wherein alkali metal comprises 0.5 to 30 weight percent of said metallic elements.
- 13. The process according to claim 12 wherein Zn is present in the catalyst.
- 14. The process according to claim 11 wherein said catalyst comprises a ferrite.
- 15. The process according to claim 11 wherein said catalyst comprises iron oxide and barium oxide.
- 16. The process according to claim 11 wherein said catalyst comprises iron oxide and zinc oxide.
- 17. A process for the reduction of carbonyl compounds in a gaseous stream comprising 3.5 to 80 mol percent unsaturated hydrocarbons, 3 to 30 mols uncondensed steam per mol of total organic compounds, 0.005 to 2.5 mol percent carbonyl compounds 20 to 93 mol percent noncondensable gases and less than 1 mol percent free oxygen comprising contacting said gaseous stream at a temperature in the range of 450.degree. to 800.degree. C. with a catalyst which comprises an oxide, hydroxide or salt of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of elements of Periodic Table Groups 8, 1b, 2b, 4b, 6b and 7b, an oxide, salt or hydroxide of an alkali metal and an oxide, salt or hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal, thus removing at least 50 weight percent of the carbonyl originally present and recovering a product stream comprising substantially the same amount of unsaturated hydrocarbons as said gaseous stream.
