Claims
- 1. A drilling system fluid adapted to provide accurate reservoir fluid characterization analysis, said drilling system fluid comprising a continuous phase comprising a quantity of isomerized olefins, wherein about 50 volume % or more of said isomerized olefins have from 15 to 16 carbon atoms.
- 2. The drilling system fluid of claim 1 wherein about 70 vol. % or more of said isomerized olefins have from 15 to 16 carbon atoms.
- 3. The drilling system fluid of claim 1 wherein said second quantity is about 20 volume % or less of said continuous phase.
- 4. The drilling system fluid of claim 1 wherein said second quantity is about 15 volume % or less of said continuous phase.
- 5. The drilling system fluid of claim 2 wherein said second quantity is about 20 volume % or less of said continuous phase.
- 6. The drilling system fluid of claim 2 wherein said second quantity is about 15 volume % or less of said continuous phase.
- 7. The drilling system fluid of claim 1 wherein said isomerized olefins have the following general formula:
- 8. The drilling system fluid of claim 7 wherein said isomerized olefins consist essentially of a single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, and have from about 0 to about 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms.
- 9. The drilling system fluid of claim 8 wherein said single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is located at other than the alpha-position.
- 10. The drilling system fluid of claim 2 wherein said isomerized olefins have the following general formula:
- 11. The drilling system fluid of claim 10 wherein said isomerized olefins consist essentially of a single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, and have from about 0 to about 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms.
- 12. The drilling system fluid of claim 11 wherein said single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is located at other than the alpha-position.
- 13. The drilling system fluid of claim 3 wherein said isomerized olefins have the following general formula:
- 14. The drilling system fluid of claim 13 wherein said isomerized olefins consist essentially of a single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, and have from about 0 to about 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms.
- 15. The drilling system fluid of claim 14 wherein said single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is located at other than the alpha-position.
- 16. The drilling system fluid of claim 5 wherein said isomerized olefins have the following general formula:
- 17. The drilling system fluid of claim 16 wherein said isomerized olefins consist essentially of a single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, and have from about 0 to about 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms.
- 18. The drilling system fluid of claim 17 wherein said single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is located at other than the alpha-position.
- 19. A drilling system fluid adapted to provide accurate reservoir fluid characterization analysis, said drilling system fluid comprising:
a continuous phase comprising a quantity of isomerized olefins, about 50 vol. % or more of said isomerized olefins having from 15 to 16 carbon atoms; and, a second quantity of linear alpha olefins having 16 carbon atoms.
- 20. The drilling system fluid of claim 19 wherein about 70 vol. % of said isomerized olefins have from 15 to 16 carbon atoms.
- 21. The drilling system fluid of claim 19 wherein said second quantity is about 20 volume % or less of said continuous phase.
- 22. The drilling system fluid of claim 19 wherein said second quantity is about 15 volume % or less of said continuous phase.
- 23. The drilling system fluid of claim 20 wherein said second quantity is about 20 volume % or less of said continuous phase.
- 24. The drilling system fluid of claim 20 wherein said second quantity is about 15 volume % or less of said continuous phase.
- 25. The drilling system fluid of claim 19 wherein said isomerized olefins have the following general formula:
- 26. The drilling system fluid of claim 25 wherein said isomerized olefins consist essentially of a single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, and have from about 0 to about 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms.
- 27. The drilling system fluid of claim 26 wherein said single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is located at other than the alpha-position.
- 28. The drilling system fluid of claim 20 wherein said isomerized olefins have the following general formula:
- 29. The drilling system fluid of claim 28 wherein said isomerized olefins consist essentially of a single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, and have from about 0 to about 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms.
- 30. The drilling system fluid of claim 29 wherein said single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is located at other than the alpha-position.
- 31. The drilling system fluid of claim 21 wherein said isomerized olefins have the following general formula:
- 32. The drilling system fluid of claim 31 wherein said isomerized olefins consist essentially of a single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, and have from about 0 to about 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms.
- 33. The drilling system fluid of claim 32 wherein said single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is located at other than the alpha-position.
- 34. The drilling system fluid of claim 23 wherein said isomerized olefins have the following general formula:
- 35. The drilling system fluid of claim 34 wherein said isomerized olefins consist essentially of a single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond, and have from about 0 to about 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 1 to about 2 carbon atoms.
- 36. The drilling system fluid of claim 35 wherein said single unsaturated carbon-carbon bond is located at other than the alpha-position.
- 37. A method effective to provide accurate reservoir fluid characterization analysis, said method comprising providing a drilling system fluid comprising a continuous phase comprising a blend of olefins comprising a quantity of isomerized olefins, wherein about 50 vol. % or more of said isomerized olefins have from 15 to 16 carbon atoms.
- 38. The drilling system fluid of claim 37 wherein at least about 70 vol. % of said isomerized olefins have from 15 to 16 carbon atoms.
- 39. The method of claim 37 wherein said method permits accurate analysis of the presence and quantity of biological markers in said reservoir fluid.
- 40. The method of claim 37 wherein said second quantity is about 20 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
- 41. The method of claim 38 wherein said second quantity is about 20 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
- 42. The method of claim 39 wherein said second quantity is about 20 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
- 43. The method of claim 37 wherein said second quantity is about 15 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
- 44. The method of claim 38 wherein said second quantity is about 15 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
- 45. The method of claim 39 wherein said second quantity is about 15 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
- 46. A method for accurate analysis of the presence and quantity of pristane and phytane in reservoir fluids, said method comprising providing a drilling system fluid comprising a continuous phase comprising a blend of olefins, said blend consisting essentially of a first quantity of isomerized olefins having from 15 to 16 carbon atoms and a second quantity of linear alpha olefins having 16 carbon atoms.
- 47. The drilling system fluid of claim 46 wherein about 50 vol. % or more of said isomerized olefins have from 15 to 16 carbon atoms.
- 48. The method of claim 46 wherein said second quantity is about 20 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
- 49. The method of claim 47 wherein said second quantity is about 20 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
- 50. The method of claim 46 wherein said second quantity is about 15 vol. % or less of said continuous phase.
