Claims
- 1. A 1-amino-3-phenoxy-propane derivative of formula 1 ##STR29## where X is H or OH:
- Z is selected from the group consisting of ##STR30## where m is 2; and
- R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently from each other are hydrogen or phenyl; with the proviso that R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are not hydrogen at the same time; and wherein the phenyl moiety may be substituted by up to three members selected from the group consisting of linear or branched alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, nitro, ##STR31## where R.sup.4 is hydrogen;
- R.sup.5 is hydrogen;
- R.sup.6 is cycloalky; or
- R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each phenyl which may be substituted by a member selected from the group consisting of alkoxy, alkylenedioxy and halogen;
- Y is a carbonyl- or a (CH.sub.2).sub.n -moiety, where n is 0, 1 or 2; and
- W is --CH.dbd.CH-- or --(CH.sub.2).sub.p --, where p is 2;
- A is a member selected from the group consisting of ##STR32## where R.sup.8 is hydrogen or linear or branched alkyl;
- w and x are 0 or 1;
- y and z independently from each other are 0 or 1;
- B is a member selected from the group consisting of phenyl, pyridyl, furanyl, thienyl, oxazolyl, isoxazolyl and thiazolyl; with the proviso that B is not phenyl when A is --O--CH.sub.2 --; where B may be substituted by up to two members selected from the group consisting of linear or branched alkyl, alkoxy, methoxyalkyl, carbonylalkoxy, CF.sub.3, halogen, pyrazolyl, 1,2,4-oxadiazolyl and 1,2,4-thiadiazolyl; where the substituents on B may be substituted by a member selected from the group consisting of methoxyalkyl, carbonylalkoxy, CF.sub.3, halogen, phenyl and benzyl;
- wherein the phenyl and benzyl resides may be independently substituted by up to two members selected from the group consisting of halogen, alkyl, alkoxy and CF.sub.3 ; and
- R and R.sup.x are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, linear or branched alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, nitro, CF.sub.3 and NR'R"; where R' and R" are linear alkyl or a cyclic hydrocarbon, annellated to the phenyl moiety of formula 1 to form a naphthalene group.
- 2. A pharmaceutical composition for the potentiation of anticancer drugs, which comprises a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of formula 1 or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof as set forth in claim 1 together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent.
- 3. An antitumor composition comprising an effective amount of a chemotherapeutic agent and an effective amount of the compound of formula 1 as defined in claim 6.
- 4. A method of treating colon cancer, which comprises administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of the composition as defined in claim 1.
