Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR35## in which R.sub.1 is hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, cycloalkylalkyl of from 4 to 8 carbon atoms or aralkyl having 1 to 5 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms with the proviso that R.sub.2 is hydrogen when R.sub.1 is alkyl; R.sub.4 is hydrogen; X and Y are the same or different and each can be hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, fluorine, methoxy, alkyl of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, hydroxy or trifluoromethyl; m is the integer 1 or 2 and n in the integer 1, 2 or 3 or a pharmaceutically acceptable addition salt thereof.
- 2. A compound as defined in claim 1 in which R.sub.1 is alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms.
- 3. A compound as defined in claim 2 in which R.sub.1 is methyl.
- 4. The compound defined in claim 1 which is 2-amino-N-ethyl-.alpha.-phenylphenethylamine.
- 5. The compound defined in claim 1 which is 2-amino-.alpha.-phenyl-N-propylphenethylamine.
- 6. The compound defined in claim 1 which is 2-amino-N-cyclohexylmethyl-.alpha.-phenylphenethylamine.
- 7. The compound as defined in claim 3 which is 2-amino-N-methyl-.alpha.-(2-methylphenyl)phenethylamine.
- 8. The compound as defined in claim 3 which is 2-amino-5-bromo-N-methyl-.alpha.-(2-methylphenyl)phenethylamine.
- 9. The compound as defined in claim 3 which is 2-amino-.alpha.-(2-ethylphenyl)-N-methylphenethylamine.
- 10. The compound as defined in claim 3 which is 2-amino-5-bromo-.alpha.-(2-ethylphenyl)-N-methylphenethylamine.
- 11. A method of treating convulsions in mammals which comprises administering to a mammal in need of convulsion treatment a convulsion treatment effective amount of a compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof of a compound as defined in claim 1.
- 12. A convulsion treating composition which comprises a convulsion treatment effective amount of a compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof of a compound as defined in claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor.
- 13. A method of protecting neurons of mammals which comprises administering to a mammal in need of neuron protection a neuron protecting amount of a compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof of a compound as defined in claim 1.
- 14. A neuron protecting composition which comprises a neuron protecting effective amount of a compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof of a compound as defined in claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor.
