Claims
- 1. A cyclic ether of the formula
- wherein D is (1) a valence bond; (2) --(CH.sub.2).sub.d -- where d is one, 2, 3, 4, or 5; (3) --CH.dbd.CH--A-- where A is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.h -- where h is one, 2, or 3; or (4) --CH.sub.2 --O--CH.sub.2 --Y-- where Y is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.k -- where k is one or 2; wherein R.sub.2 is ##STR36## wherein C.sub.g H.sub.2g is alkylene of one to 9 carbon atoms, inclusive, with one to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, in the chain between --CR.sub.5 R.sub.6 -- and terminal methyl, wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are hydrogen, alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, or fluoro, being the same or different, with the proviso that one of R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 is fluoro only when the other is hydrogen or fluoro; or ##STR37## wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are as defined above with the proviso that neither R.sub.5 nor R.sub.6 is fluoro when Z is oxa (--O--); wherein Z represents an oxa atom (--O--) or C.sub.j H.sub.2j wherein C.sub.j H.sub.2j is a valence bond or alkylene of one to 9 carbon atoms, inclusive, with one to 6 carbon atoms, inclusive between --CR.sub.5 R.sub.6 -- and the phenyl ring; wherein T is alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, fluoro, chloro, trifluoromethyl, or --OR.sub.7 wherein R.sub.7 is alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, and s is zero, one, 2, or 3, with the proviso that not more than two T's are other than alkyl and when s is 2 or 3 the T's are either the same or different;
- wherein Q.sub.3 is ##STR38## wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen or alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive; wherein R.sub.23 is ##STR39## wherein R.sub.31 is --CH.sub.2 OH with the proviso that R.sub.31 is not --CH.sub.2 OH when D is a valence band,
- and wherein .about. indicates attachment in alpha or beta configuration; including the lower alkanoates thereof.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1 wherein Q.sub.3 is ##STR40## wherein R.sub.3 is as defined in claim 1.
- 3. A compound according to claim 2 wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen and R.sub.23 is ##STR41##
- 4. A compound according to claim 3 wherein D is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.d -- wherein d is one, 2, 3, 4, or 5.
- 5. A compound according to claim 4 wherein D is trimethylene.
- 6. A compound according to claim 5 wherein R.sub.2 is n-pentyl.
- 7. A cyclic ether of the formula ##STR42## wherein D is (1) a valence bond; (2) --(CH.sub.2).sub.d -- where d is one, 2, 3, 4, or 5; (3) --CH.dbd.CH--A-- where A is a valence bond, or --(CH.sub.2).sub.h -- where h is one, 2, or 3; or (4) --CH.sub.2 --O--CH.sub.2 --Y-- where Y is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.k -- where k is one or 2;
- wherein Q.sub.3 is ##STR43## wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen or alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive; wherein R.sub.23 is ##STR44## wherein R.sub.30 is --CH.sub.2 OH
- and wherein .about. indicates attachment in alpha or beta configuration; including the lower alkanoates thereof.
- 8. A compound according to claim 7 wherein Q.sub.3 is ##STR45## wherein R.sub.3 is as defined in claim 29.
- 9. A compound according to claim 8 wherein R.sub.23 is ##STR46##
- 10. A compound according to claim 9 wherein D is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.d -- wherein d is one, 2, 3, 4, or 5.
- 11. A cyclic ether of the formula ##STR47## wherein D' is --CH.sub.2 --CH.dbd.CH--A-- or
- --(CH.sub.2).sub.t --CF.sub.2 --
- wherein A is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.h -- where h is one,
- 2. or 3; and wherein t is 2, 3, or 4;
- wherein Q.sub.3 is ##STR48## wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen or alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, wherein R.sub.23 is ##STR49## wherein R.sub.25 is ##STR50## wherein C.sub.g H.sub.2g is alkylene of one to 9 carbon atoms, inclusive, with one to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, in the chain between --CR.sub.5 R.sub.6 -- and terminal methyl, wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are hydrogen, alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, or fluoro, being the same or different, with the proviso that one of R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 is fluoro only when the other is hydrogen or fluoro; ##STR51## wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are as defined above with the proviso that neither R.sub.5 nor R.sub.6 is fluoro when Z is oxa (--O--); wherein Z represents an oxa atom (--O--) or C.sub.j H.sub.2j wherein C.sub.j H.sub.2j is a valence bond or alkylene of one to 9 carbon atoms, inclusive, with one to 6 carbon atoms, inclusive between --CR.sub.5 R.sub.6 -- and the phenyl ring; wherein T is alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, fluoro, chloro, trifluoromethyl, or --OR.sub.7 -- wherein R.sub.7 is alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, and s is zero, one, 2, or 3, with the proviso that not more than two T's are other than alkyl and when s is 2 or 3 the T's are either the same or different; or ##STR52## wherein R.sub.30 is --CH.sub.2 OH
- and wherein .about. indicates attachment in alpha or beta configuration; including the lower alkanoates thereof.
- 12. A compound according to claim 11 wherein Q.sub.3 is ##STR53## wherein R.sub.3 is as defined in claim 35.
- 13. A compound according to claim 12 wherein R.sub.23 is ##STR54##
- 14. A compound according to claim 13 wherein D' is --(CH.sub.2).sub.t --CF.sub.2 where t is 2, 3, or 4.
- 15. A compound according to claim 13 wherein D' is --CH.sub.2 CH.dbd.CH--A-- wherein A is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.h wherein h is one, 2, or 3.
- 16. A cyclic ether of the formula ##STR55## wherein L is (1) a valence bond, (2) --(CH.sub.2).sub.d -- wherein d is one to 5 inclusive, (3) --(CH.sub.2).sub.t --CF.sub.2 -- wherein t is 2, 3, or 4, (4) --CH.sub.2 --CH.dbd.CH--A-- wherein A is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.h -- wherein h is one, 2, or 3, or (5) --CH.sub.2 --O--CH.sub.2 --Y-- wherein Y is a valence bond or --(CH.sub.2).sub.k -- wherein k is one or 2; wherein Q.sub.3 is ##STR56## wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen or alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive; wherein R.sub.23 is ##STR57## wherein R.sub.25 is ##STR58## wherein C.sub.g H.sub.2g is alkylene of one to 9 carbon atoms, inclusive, with one to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, in the chain between --CR.sub.5 R.sub.6 -- and terminal methyl, wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are hydrogen, alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, or fluoro, being the same or different, with the proviso that one of R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 is fluoro only when the other is hydrogen or fluoro; ##STR59## wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are as defined above with the proviso that neither R.sub.5 nor R.sub.6 is fluoro when Z is oxa (--O--); wherein Z represents an oxa atom (--O--) or C.sub.j H.sub.2j wherein C.sub.j H.sub.2j is a valence bond or alkylene of one to 9 carbon atoms, inclusive, with one to 6 carbon atoms, inclusive between --CR.sub.5 R.sub.6 -- and the phenyl ring; wherein T is alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, fluoro, chloro, trifluoromethyl, or --OR.sub.7 -- wherein R.sub.7 is alkyl of one to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, and s is zero, one, 2, or 3, with the proviso that not more than two T's are other than alkyl and when s is 2 or 3 the T's are either the same or different; or ##STR60## wherein R.sub.30 is --CH.sub.2 OH
