Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR16## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen, lower alkylthio, nitro, cyano, and trifluoromethyl; and R is selected from the group consisting of triacetyl substituted pentose, pentose, tetraacetyl substituted hexose, and hexose.
- 2. The compound of claim 1 having the formula: ##STR17## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, Cl, Br, F, methyl and methoxy and are located at the 7- or 8-position and 5- or 6-position respectively.
- 3. The compound of claim 2 wherein said pentose is selected from the group consisting of D-ribose, D-arabinose, D-xylose, and D-lyxose and said hexose is selected from the group consisting of D-glucose, D-allose, D-gulose, D-galactose, D-altrose, D-mannose, D-idose, and D-talose.
- 4. The compound of claim 3 wherein R is D-glucose or tetraacetyl substituted D-glucose and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are both hydrogen.
- 5. The compound of claim 4, 2-.beta.-D-glucosyl-1H-benz[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione, tetraacetate ester.
- 6. The compound of claim 4, 2-.beta.-D-glucosyl-1H-benz[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione.
- 7. A pharmaceutical composition useful for treating inflammation in a mammalian specie comprising as the active ingredient from about 1 mg./kg. to about 30 mg./kg. of a compound or mixture of compounds of claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
- 8. The method of treating inflammation in a mammalian specie comprising administering an effective amount of the composition of claim 7.
