Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR1405## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a negative charge each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a hydroxy lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group, an acetoimidoyl group, --COOR.sup.4, --CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.4, --CH.sub.2 N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 or --CH.sub.2 CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 (wherein R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, each of R.sup.5 and R.sup.6, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, or R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 form together with the adjacent nitrogen atom a heterocyclic group selected from the group consisting of an aziridinyl group, an azetidinyl group, a pyrrolidinyl group and a piperidyl group), A is .dbd.NR.sup.7, =N.sup.+ (R.sup.7)R.sup.8, --CON(R.sup.7)--, --CON(R.sup.7)CO--, --CON(R.sup.7 )CON(R.sup.8)--, --N(R.sup.7)CO(CH.sub.2).sub.s N(R.sup.8)--, --N(R.sup.7)CO(CH.sub.2).sub.s CON(R.sup.8)--, --CON(R.sup.7)N(R.sup.8)-- or --N(R.sup.7)(CH.sub.2).sub.s N(R.sup.8)-- (wherein each of R.sup.7 and R.sup.8, which may be the same or different is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a hydroxy lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group, an acetoimidoyl group, --COOR.sup.4, --CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.4, --CH.sub.2 N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 or --CH.sub.2 CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 (wherein R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are as defined above), s is an integer of from 1 to 3), p is an integer of from 0 to 3, and each of q and r, which may be the same or different, is an integer of from 0 to 5, provided that q and r are not simultaneously 0 and q+r.ltoreq. 6; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof;
- with the proviso that when A is .dbd.N.sup.+ (R.sup.7)R.sup.8, R.sup.1 is a negative charge.
- 2. The compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR1406## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, A.sup.1 is .dbd.NR.sup.9, --CON(R.sup.10)-- or --CON(R.sup.10)CO-- (wherein R.sup.9 is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group or an acetoimidoyl group, and R.sup.10 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group), and each of m and n, which may be the same or different, is an integer of from 0 to 3, provided that m and n are not simultaneously 0.
- 3. The compound according to claim 1 which is represented by the formula: ##STR1407## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, A is .dbd.NR.sup.9, --CON(R.sup.10)-- or --CON(R.sup.10)CO-- (wherein R.sup.9 is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group or an acetoimidoyl group, R.sup.10 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group), and each of m, n and p, which may be the same or different, is an integer of from 0 to 3, provided that m and n are not simultaneously 0.
- 4. The compound according to claim 1, which is represented by the formula: ##STR1408## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a negative charge, A.sup.2 is .dbd.NR.sup.9, .dbd.N.sup.+ (R.sup.11)R.sup.12, --CON(R.sup.10)-- or --CON(R.sup.10)CO-- (wherein R.sup.9 is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group or an acetoimidoyl group, R.sup.10 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, and each of R.sup.11 and R.sup.12, which may be the same or different, is a lower alkyl group), and each of m, n and p, which may be the same or different, is an integer of from 0 to 3, provided that m, n and p are not simultaneously 0, and with the proviso that when A.sup.2 is .dbd.N.sup.+ (R.sup.11)R.sup.12, R.sup.1 is a negative charge.
- 5. The compound according to claim 1, wherein A is .dbd.NR.sup.7, =N.sup.+ (R.sup.7)R.sup.8, --CON(R.sup.7)--, --CON(R.sup.7)CO--, --CON(R.sup.7)CON(R.sup.8)--, --N(R.sup.7)COCH.sub.2 N(R.sup.8)--, --CON(R.sup.7)N(R.sup.8)-- or --N(R.sup.7)(CH.sub.2).sub.2 N(R.sup.8)-- (wherein each of R.sup.7 and R.sup.8, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a hydroxy lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group, an acetoimidoyl group, --COOR.sup.4, --CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.4, --CH.sub.2 N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 or --CH.sub.2 CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 (wherein R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, each of R.sup.5 and R.sup.6, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, or R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 form together with the adjacent nitrogen atom a heterocyclic group selected from the group consisting of an aziridinyl group, an azetidinyl group, a pyrrolidinyl group and a piperidyl group).

The compound according to claim 1, wherein A is .dbd.NR.sup.7, =N.sup.+ (R.sup.7)R.sup.8, or --CON(R.sup.7)-- (wherein each of R.sup.7 and R.sup.8, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a hydroxy lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group, an acetoimidoyl group, --COOR.sup.4, --CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.4, --CH.sub.2 N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 or --CH.sub.2 CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 (wherein R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, each of R.sup.5 and R.sup.6, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, or R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 form together with the adjacent nitrogen atom a heterocyclic group selected from the group consisting of an aziridinyl group, an azetidinyl group,-a pyrrolidinyl group and a piperidyl group)).
- 7. The compound according to claim 2 or 3, wherein A.sup.1 is .dbd.NR.sup.9 or --CON(R.sup.10)--.
- 8. The compound according to claim 4, wherein A.sup.2 is .dbd.NR.sup.9, =N.sup.+ (R.sup.11)R.sup.12, or --CON(R.sup.10)--.
- 9. The compound according to claim 1, wherein each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom, a carbamoyl group, a lower alkyl carbamoyl group, a di-lower alkyl carbamoyl group or an amino group.
- 10. The compound according to claim 1, wherein p is 0.
- 11. The compound according to claim 1, wherein p is 1 or 2.
- 12. The compound according to claim 1, wherein the group of the formula: ##STR1409## is a substituent selected from the group consisting of an aziridinyl group, an azetidinyl group, a 2-carbamoylazetidinyl group, a 2-oxoazetidinyl group, an N-methyl-2-oxoazetidinyl group, a pyrrolidinyl group, an N-methylpyrrolidinyl group, an N,N-dimethylpyrrolidinio group, a 2-oxopyrrolidinyl group, a 2,5-dioxopyrrolidinyl group, an N-(2-hydroxyethyl)pyrrolidinyl group, a 2,5-dioxo-N-methylpyrrolidinyl group, a 2-carbamoylpyrrolidinyl group, a 2-(N-methylcarbamoyl)pyrrolidinyl group, a 2-(N,N-dimethylcarbamoyl)pyrrolidinyl group, a 3-amino-2-oxopyrrolidinyl group, a pyrazolidinyl group, a 3-oxopyrazolidinyl group, an imidazolidinyl group, a 2,4-dioxoimidazolidinyl group, a piperazinyl group, a 2-oxopiperazinyl group, a piperidyl group, an N-methylpiperidyl group, an N,N-dimethylpiperidinio group, a 2-oxopiperidyl group, a 2,6-dioxopiperidyl group, a 2-carbamoylpiperidyl group, a hexahydroazepinyl group, an N-methylhexahydroazepinyl group, an N,N-dimethylhexahydroazepinio group, a hexahydro-2-oxoazepinyl group, a 2,7-dioxohexahydroazepinyl group, a 2-carbamoylhexahydroazepinyl group, a hexahydro-1H-1,4-diazepinyl group, a hexahydro-2-oxo-1H-1,4-diazepinyl group, an octahydroazocinyl group, an N-methyloctahydroazocinyl group and an N,N-dimethyloctahydroazocinio group and p=0.

The compound according to claim 1, wherein the group of the formula: ##STR1410## is a substituent selected from the group consisting of a 2-oxoazetidinyl group, a pyrrolidinyl group, an N,N-dimethylpyrrolidinio group, a 2-carbamoylpyrrolidinyl group, a 3-amino-2-oxopyrrolidinyl group, a 2-oxopyrrolidinyl group, a piperidyl group and a 2-oxopiperidyl group and p=0.

The compound according to claim 1, wherein the group of the formula: ##STR1412## is a substituent selected from the group consisting of a 2-oxoazetidinylmethyl group, a pyrrolidinylmethyl group, an N,N-dimethylpyrrolidiniomethyl group, a 2-carbamoylpyrrolidinylmethyl group, a 3-amino-2-oxopyrrolidinylmethyl group, a 2-oxopyrrolidinylmethyl group, a piperidylmethyl group and a 2-oxopiperidylmethyl group and p=1.

- 17. The compound according to claim 1, which is (1R,5S,6S)-6-[(R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1-methyl-2-[(2S,4S)-2-(pyrrolidin-3-yl)pyrrolidin-4-ylthio]-1-carbapen-2-em-3-carboxylic acid.
- 18. The compound according to claim 1, which is (1R,5S,6S)-6-[(R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1-methyl-2-[(2S,4S)-2-piperidin-4-yl)pyrrolidin-4-ylthio]-1-carbapen-2-em-3-carboxylic acid.
- 19. An antibacterial agent comprising an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR1413## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a negative charge, each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a hydroxy lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group, an acetoimidoyl group, --COOR.sup.4, --CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.4, --CH.sub.2 N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 or --CH.sub.2 CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 (wherein R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, each of R.sup.5 and R.sup.6, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, or R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 form together with the adjacent nitrogen atom a heterocyclic group selected from the group consisting of an aziridinyl group, an azetidinyl group, a pyrrolidyl group and a piperidyl group), A is .dbd.N.sup.7, =N.sup.+ (R.sup.7)R.sup.8, --CON(R.sup.7)--, --CON(R.sup.7)CO--, --CON(R.sup.7 )CON(R.sup.8)--, --N(R.sup.7)CO(CH.sub.2).sub.s N(R.sup.8)--, --N(R.sup.7)CO(CH.sub.2).sub.s CON(R.sup.8)--, --CON(R.sup.7)N(R.sup.8)-- or --N(R.sup.7)(CH.sub.2).sub.s N(R.sup.8)-- (wherein each of R.sup.7 and R.sup.8, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a hydroxy lower alkyl group, a formimidoyl group, an acetoimidoyl group --COOR.sup.4, --CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6, --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.4, --CH.sub.2 N(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 or --CH.sub.2 CON(R.sup.5)R.sup.6 (wherein R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are as defined above), s is an integer of from 1 to 3), p is an integer of from 0 to 3, and each of q and r, which may be the same or different, is an integer of from 0 to 5, provided that q and r are not simultaneously 0 and q+r.ltoreq. 6; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent;
- with the proviso that when A is .dbd.N.sup.+ (R.sup.7)R.sup.8, R.sup.1 is a negative charge.
