Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR54## wherein: R.sup.1 is H, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkynyl, --CF.sub.3, --OR.sup.2, SR.sup.2, --CHO, --COOR.sup.2, --(C.dbd.O)R.sup.2, --C(OH)R.sup.2 R.sup.2, --CN, substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, substituted or unsubstituted benzyl, or substituted or unsubstituted phenethyl;
- R.sup.2 is independently H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkynyl, or --CF.sub.3 ;
- R.sup.3 is independently (CR.sup.2 R.sup.2).sub.m --Q;
- R.sup.4 is independently H, halogen, --CN, --OR.sup.2, --SR.sup.2, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl;
- R.sup.9 is independently --OR.sup.10, --SR.sup.10, or --NR.sup.10 R.sup.10 ;
- R.sup.10 is independently H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, --(C.dbd.O)R.sup.11, unsubstituted phenyl or unsubstituted benzyl;
- R.sup.11 is independently H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkynyl, --CF.sub.3, or unsubstituted phenyl, benzyl, or phenethyl;
- m is independently 1-4;
- n is independently 1 or 2;
- Q is independently --COOR.sup.2 or tetrazole;
- X is independently O, S, --SO, or --SO.sup.2 ;
- Y is independently --(CR.sup.2 .dbd.CR.sup.2).sub.n --, or --(C.tbd.C).sub.n --;
- substituted phenyl, benzyl, and phenethyl mean 1-2 substituents selected from C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, R.sup.9, NO.sub.2, SCF.sub.3, halogen, --COR.sup.9, CN, CF.sub.3, and --CHO;
- with the proviso that when R.sup.4 is on the carbon adjacent to X it is not OH, SH, or NHR.sup.2 ;
- and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
- 2. A compound of claim 1 of the Formula Ia: ##STR55## wherein: R.sup.1 is H, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkynyl, --CF.sub.3, --OR.sup.2, --SR.sup.2, --CHO, --COOR.sup.2, --(C.dbd.O)R.sup.2, --C(OH)R.sup.2 R.sup.2, --CN, --NO.sub.2, substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, substituted or unsubstituted benzyl, or substituted or unsubstituted phenethyl;
- and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
- 3. A compound of claim 1 of the Formula Ib: ##STR56## wherein: R.sup.1 is H, halogen, CH.sub.3, --CF.sub.3, or SCF.sub.3 ; and
- R.sup.2 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkenyl, or --CF.sub.3 ;
- and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
- 4. A compound of claim 1 of the Formula Ic: ##STR57## wherein: R.sup.1 is H, halogen, CH.sub.3, C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkenyl, --CF.sub.3, or SCF.sub.3 ;
- R.sup.2 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkenyl, or --CF.sub.3 ;
- and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
- 5. A compound of claim 1 which is a compound of Formula E:

- 8. A compound of claim 1 of Formula G: ##STR81## wherein XR.sup.3 is OCH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 Me.
- 9. A compound of claim 1 which is:
- (E)-4-(3-(2-(quinolin-2-yl)-1-methylethenyl)phenoxy)butyric acid;
- Methyl (D,L) 2-(3-(2-(7-bromoquinolin-2-yl)ethynyl)phenoxy)propanoate;
- (E)-(D,L)-2-(3-(2-(7-chloroquinolin-2-yl)-1-methylethenyl)phenoxy)propanoic acid sodium salt;
- 4-(3-(2-(7-bromoqiunolin-2-yl)ethynyl)phenoxy)butanoic acid sodium salt;
- (D,L) 2-(3-(2-(7-bromoquinolin-2-yl)ethynyl)phenoxy)propanoic acid sodium salt; or
- (Z)-(D,L) 2-(3-(2-(7-chloroquinolin-2-yl)methylethenyl)phenoxy)propanoic acid sodium salt.
