Claims
- 1. A method for identifying a compound which binds to a polypeptide which is at least 95% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:4 or the amino acid sequence encoded by the cDNA insert of the plasmid deposited with ATCC as Patent Deposit Number PTA-1844 and wherein the polypeptide has an agmatinase activity, the method comprising:
i) contacting the polypeptide, or a cell expressing the polypeptide with a test compound under conditions suitable for binding; and ii) detecting binding of the test compound to the polypeptide.
- 2. A method for identifying a compound which binds to a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:4, the amino acid sequence encoded by the cDNA insert of the plasmid deposited with ATCC as Patent Deposit Number PTA-1844, or a fragment thereof comprising at least 15 contiguous amino acids, the method comprising:
i) contacting the polypeptide, or a cell expressing the polypeptide with a test compound under conditions suitable for binding; and ii) detecting binding of the test compound to the polypeptide.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the polypeptide is encoded by a nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence which is at least 95% identical to the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:3, SEQ ID NO:5 or SEQ ID NO:6.
- 4. The method of claim 2, wherein the polypeptide is encoded by the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:3, SEQ ID NO:5 or SEQ ID NO:6.
- 5. The method of any one of claims 1 or 2, wherein the polypeptide further includes heterologous sequences.
- 6. The method of claim 2, wherein the polypeptide has an agmatinase activity.
- 7. The method of any one of claims 1 or 2, wherein the cell is a mammalian cell.
- 8. The method of any one of claims 1 or 2, wherein the binding of the test compound to the polypeptide is detected by a method selected from the group consisting of:
a) direct detecting of test compound/polypeptide binding; b) a competition binding assay; c) an immunoassay; d) a yeast two-hybrid assay; and e) an assay for hydrolysis of agmatine.
- 9. The method of any one of claims 1 or 2, wherein the detection is by an assay for an activity of the polypeptide.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein the activity is selected from the group consisting of cellular growth or proliferation, cellular signaling and viral gene expression.
