Claims
- 1. A metal salt complex of the formula ##STR5## wherein X is cyano, nitro, mercapto, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkylthio, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkylsulfinyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkylsulfonyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkylsulfamyl;
- M is calcium, copper, manganese, nickel or zinc;
- Y is an anion which satisfies the valence of the cation M which is selected from the group consisting of bromide, chloride, nitrate, sulfate or oxalate;
- n is the integer one.
- 2. A rodenticidal composition which comprises a carrier and as the active ingredient a rodenticidally effective amount of a complex according to claim 1.
- 3. A rodenticidal composition according to claim 2 wherein the carrier comprises finely ground corn, steam rolled oats, powdered sugar, peanut oil or finely ground molasses.
- 4. A metal salt complex according to claim 1 wherein the metal salt is zinc chloride.
- 5. A metal salt complex according to claim 4 wherein X is cyano.
- 6. A rodenticidal composition according to claim 2 wherein the active ingredient is 3-pyridylmethyl N-(4-cyanophenyl)thiocarbamate zinc chloride.
- 7. A rodenticidal composition according to claim 2 wherein the active ingredient is 3-pyridylmethyl N-(4-nitrophenyl)thiocarbamate zinc chloride.
- 8. A rodenticidal composition according to claim 3 wherein the active ingredient is 3-pyridylmethyl N-(4-cyanophenyl)thiocarbamate zinc chloride.
- 9. A method of exterminating pest rodents which comprises exposing a rodenticidally effective amount of a rodenticidal composition in accordance with claim 2 in the vicinity of a population of said pest rodents in a place where it may be easily reached and ingested by said pest rodents.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein said rodenticidal composition is a bait.
- 11. The method of claim 9 wherein X is cyano.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein said rodenticidal composition comprises between 0.5 and 5% by weight of the compound and an edible carrier selected from whole ground corn, finely ground corn, steel cut oats, steamed rolled oats, sugar, molasses, rice, wheat, vegetable oil, peanut oil, salt fish meal, dehydrated fruit, paraffin wax and acrylic polymer and mixtures thereof.
- 13. The method of claim 9 wherein said rodenticidal composition is a tracking powder and is placed in an area upon which said pest rodents customarily step.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein X is cyano.
