Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula (1) whereinZ is a 4-pyridyl group of the formula wherein R7 and R8 are independently F or Cl; one of X and Y is H; (C1-C6) alkyl; (C1-C6) haloalkyl; (C2-C6) alkenyl; (C2-C6) alkynyl; (C1-C6) alkoxy-substituted (C1-C6) alkyl; phenyl; or phenyl substituted with one or more groups independently selected from halo, (C1-C10) alkyl, branched (C3-C6) alkyl, halo (C1-C7) alkyl, hydroxy (C1-C7) alkyl, (C1-C7) alkoxy, halo (C1-C7) alkoxy, phenoxy, phenyl, NO2, OH, CN, (C1-C4) alkanoyl, benzoyl, (C1-C4) alkanoyloxy, (C1-C4) alkoxycarbonyl, phenoxycarbonyl, or benzoyloxy; the other of X and Y is a group selected from wherein R2 is halo; (C1-C6) alkyl; (C1-C6) haloalkyl; (C2-C6) alkenyl; (C2-C6) alkynyl; or (C1-C6) alkoxy-substituted (C1-C6) alkyl; R3 is selected from H; halo; (C1-C6) alkyl; (C7-C21) straight chain alkyl; hydroxy; (C1-C6) alkoxy; (C1-C6) haloalkyl; (C1-C6) haloalkoxy; (C1-C6) alkoxy-substituted (C1-C6) alkyl; (C1-C6) alkoxy-substituted (C1-C6) alkoxy; (C1-C6) alkenyl; (C2-C6)haloalkenyl; CN; NO2; CO2R6; CON(R6)2; (C3-C6) cycloalkyl; S(O)mR6; SCN; phenoxy; phenoxy substituted with one or more groups independently selected from halo, (C1-C10) alkyl, branched (C3-C6) alkyl, halo (C1-C7) alkyl, hydroxy (C1-C7) alkyl, (C1-C7) alkoxy, halo (C1-C7) alkoxy, phenoxy, phenyl, NO2, OH, CN, (C1-C4) alkanoyl, benzoyl, (C1-C4) alkanoyloxy, (C1-C4) alkoxycarbonyl, phenoxycarbonyl, or benzoyloxy; naphthyl; naphthyl substituted with one or more groups independently selected from halo, halo (C1-C4) alkyl, CN, NO2, (C1-C4) alkyl, (C3-C4) branched alkyl, phenyl, (C1-C4) alkoxy, or halo (C1-C4) alkoxy; phenyl; phenyl substituted with one or more groups independently selected from halo, (C1-C10) alkyl, branched (C3-C6) alkyl, halo C1-C7) alkyl, hydroxy (C1-C7) alkyl, (C1-C7) alkoxy, halo (C1-C7) alkoxy, phenoxy, phenyl, NO2, OH, CN, (C1-C4) alkanoyl, benzoyl, (C1-C4) alkanoyloxy, (C1C4) alkoxycarbonyl, phenoxycarbonyl, or benzoyloxy; —(CH2)nR6; —CH═CHR6; —C≡CR6; —CH2OR6; —CH2SR6; —CH2NR6R6; —OCH2R6; —SCH2R6; —NR6CH2R6; —NCH3NH2; R4 and R5 are independently H; halo; (C1-C6) alkyl; (C1-C6) alkoxy; (C1-C6) haloalkoxy; (C1-C6) haloalkoxy; CN; NO2; CO2R6; CON(R6)2; or (C1-C6) S(O)m alkyl; or R4 and R5 form a 5 or 6 member saturated or unsaturated carbocyclic ring which may be substituted by 1 or 2 halo, (C1-C6) alkyl, (C1-C6) alkoxy or (C1-C6) haloalkyl groups; R6 is H; (C1-C6) alkyl; (C1-C6) haloalkyl; (C2-C6) alkenyl; (C2-C6) alkynyl; phenyl; or phenyl substituted with one or more groups independently selected from halo, (C1-C10) alkyl, branched (C3-C6) alkyl, halo (C1-C7) alkyl, hydroxy (C1-C7) alkyl, (C1-C7) alkoxy, halo (C1-C7) alkoxy, phenoxy, phenyl, NO2, OH, CN, (C1-C4) alkanoyl, benzoyl, (C1-C4) alkanoyloxy, (C1-C4) alkoxycarbonyl, phenoxycarbonyl, or benzoyloxy; m is 0, 1, or 2; and n is 1 or 2; or a phytologically acceptable acid addition salt or N-oxide thereof.
- 2. A compound of claim 1whereinX is (C1-C6) alkyl; (C1-C6) haloalkyl; (C2-C6) alkenyl; (C2-C6) alkynyl; or (C1-C6) alkoxy-substituted (C1-C6) alkyl; Y is a group selected from wherein R3 is selected from H; halo ; (C1-C6) alkyl; (C7-C21) straight chain alkyl; hydroxy; (C1-C6) alkoxy; (C1-C6) haloalkyl; (C1-C6) haloalkoxy; (C1-C6) alkoxy-substituted (C1-C6) alkyl; (C1-C6) alkoxy-substituted (C1-C6) alkoxy; (C2-C6) alkenyl; (C2-C6) haloalkenyl; CN; NO2; CO2R6; CON(R6)2; (C3-C6) cycloalkyl; S(O)mR6; SCN; naphthyl; naphthyl substituted with one or more groups independently selected from halo, halo (C1-C4) alkyl, CN, NO2, (C1-C4) alkyl, (C3-C4) branched alkyl, phenyl, (C1-C4) alkoxy, or halo (C1-C4) alkoxy; phenyl; phenyl substituted with one or more groups independently selected from halo, (C1C10) alkyl, branched (C3-C6) alkyl, halo (C1-C7) alkyl, hydroxy (C1-C7) alkyl, (C1-C7) alkoxy, halo (C1-C7) alkoxy, phenoxy, phenyl, NO2, OH, CN, (C1-C4) alkanoyl, benzoyl, (C1-C4) alkanoyloxy, (C1-C4) alkoxycarbonyl, phenoxycarbonyl, or benzoyloxy; —(CH2)nR6; —CH═CHR6; —C≡CR6; —CH2OR6; —CH2SR6; —CH2NR6R6; —OCH2R6; —SCH2R6; —NR6CH2R6; R4 and R5 are independently H; halo; (C1-C6) alkyl; (C1-C6) alkoxy; (C1-C6) haloalkyl; (C1-C6) haloalkoxy; CN; CO2R6; CON(R6)2; or (C1-C6) S(O)m alkyl; or R4 and R5 form a 5 or 6 member saturated or unsaturated carbocyclic ring which may be substituted by 1 or 2 halo, (C1-C6) alkyl, (C1-C6) alkoxy or (C1-C6) haloalkyl groups.
- 3. A compound of claim 2 wherein R7 and R8 are both F.
- 4. A compound of claim 2 wherein R7 and R8 are both Cl.
- 5. A compound of claim 1 having the formula whereinR7 and R8 are independently F or Cl; and R3, R4, and R5 are independently H, Cl, Br, methyl, halomethyl, methoxy, or halomethoxy.
- 6. A composition for controlling insects or mites which comprises a compound of claim 1 in combination with a phytologically-acceptable carrier.
- 7. A method of controlling insects or mites which comprises applying to a locus where control is desired an insect- or mite-inactivating amount of a compound of claim 1.
- 8. The compound of claim 1 which is 3-(3,5-dichloro-4-pyridyl)-5-(4-bromophenyl)-1-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole.
- 9. The compound of claim 1 which is 3-(3,5-dichloro-4-pyridyl)-5-(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-1-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole.
