Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR8## in which R.sup.1 is phenyl which may be substituted with or lower alkyl, and R.sup.2 is 2,2,3,3-tetramethylcyclopropylcarbonyl, 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-methylpropylcarbonyl, or a group of the formula ##STR9## wherein Y and Z, the same or different, are hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, perhalo(lower)alkyl, phenyl which may be substituted with halogen or lower alkyl, or phenylthio which may be substituted with halogen or lower alkyl, with the proviso that one of Y and Z is other than hydrogen or methyl.
- 2. The compound of claim 1 wherein R.sup.2 is a group of the formula ##STR10##
- 3. The compound of claim 2 wherein one of Y and Z is halogen and the other is halogen or perhaloalkyl, and R.sup.1 is phenyl.
- 4. The compound of claim 3 wherein Y and Z are each halogen.
- 5. The compound of claim 4 wherein Y and Z are each chlorine.
- 6. The compound of claim 3 wherein one of Y and Z is halogen and the other is trifluoromethyl.
- 7. The compound of claim 6 wherein one of Y and Z is chlorine and the other is trifluoromethyl.
- 8. An insecticidal composition comprising an insecticidally effective amount of the compound of claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 in admixture with a compatible extender or carrier.
- 9. A method for controlling insects which comprises applying to the insect or to a locus where control is desired an insecticidally effective amount of the compound of claim 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7.
- 10. A method for controlling insects which comprises applying to the insect or to a locus where control is desired an insecticidally effective amount of the composition of claim 8.

The present invention is a continuation in part of U.S. Ser. No. 927,198, filed July 24, 1978, now abandoned which is a continuation in part of Ser. No. 870,973, filed Jan. 20, 1978, now abandoned, and is directed to a novel alcohol for use in preparing cyclopropanecarboxylate and related insecticides, to insecticides employing this alcohol, and to an insecticidal method and composition. More particularly, the invention is directed to a 4-substituted-2-indanol and insecticidal esters thereof.
