Claims
- 1. A 9,10-secoestrane of the formula ##SPC7##
- wherein R.sub.1 is lower alkyl; R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each are a hydrogen atom, alkoxy of 1-4 carbon atoms or hydrocarbonyloxy of 1-12 carbon atoms; X is carbonyl, dialkoxymethylene wherein the alkoxy groups each contain 1-4 carbon atoms, alkylenedioxymethylene wherein the alkylene group contains 2-6 carbon atoms, phenylenedioxymethylene, hydroxymethylene, alkoxymethylene wherein the alkoxy group contains 1-10 carbon atoms, hydrocarbon aralkoxymethylene wherein the aralkoxy group contains 7-10 carbon atoms, or hydrocarbon carbonyloxymethylene wherein the hydrocarboncarbonyloxy group contains 1-10 carbon atoms; Y and Z collectively are --O--, and the linkages ---- each represent a single or double bond.
- 2. A compound of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 is methyl or ehtyl.
- 3. A compound of claim 1 wherein R.sub.4 is alkoxy of 1-8 carbon atoms or alkanoyloxy of 2-8 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are hydrogen atoms.
- 4. A compound of claim 1 wherein X is hydroxymethylene or alkoxymethylene wherein alkoxy is of 1-8 carbon atoms.
- 5. A compound of claim 1 wherein each ---- is a double bond.
- 6. A compound of claim 1 wherein each ---- is a single bond.
- 7. The compound of claim 1, 3-methoxy-17.beta.-tert.-butoxy-6,9-oxido-9,10-oxido-9,10-seco-1,3,5(10),6,8,14-estrahexaene.
- 8. The compound of claim 1, 3-methoxy-6,9-oxido-9,10-seco-1,3,5(10),6,8,14-estrahexaen-17.beta.-ol.
- 9. The compound of claim 1, 3-methoxy-17.beta.-tert.-butoxy-6,9-oxido-18-methyl-9,10-seco-1,3,5(10),6,8,14-estrahexaene.
- 10. The compound of claim 1, 17.beta.-tert.-butoxy-6,9-oxido-9,10-seco-1,3,5(10),6,8,14-estrahexaene.
- 11. The compound of claim 1, 3-methoxy-6,9-oxido-18-methyl-9,10-seco-1,3,5(10),6,8,14-estrahexaen-17.beta.-ol.
- 12. The compound of claim 1, 3 -methoxy-17.beta.-acetoxy-6,9-oxido-9,10-seco-1,3,5(10),6,8,14-estrahexaene.
- 13. The compound of claim 1, 3-methoxy-17.beta.-tert.-butoxy-6,9-oxido-9,10-seco-1,3,5(10)-estratriene.
- 14. A process for the production of 9,10-seco-1,3,5(10),6,8,14-estrahexaenes of the formula ##SPC8##
- wherein n is the integer 1 or 2; R.sub.1 is lower alkyl; and R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each are a hydrogen atom, alkoxy or acyloxy, and X is a free or ketalized carbonyl group or a free, esterified or etherified hydroxymethylene group, which comprises cyclizing, in the presence of an acidic catalyst, a compound of the formula ##SPC9##
- wherein n, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and X have the values given above and Q is carbonyl or dialkoxymethylene.
- 15. A process according to claim 14 wherein R.sub.1 is methyl or ethyl, R.sub.4 is alkoxy of 1-8 carbon atoms or alkanoyloxy of 2-8 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are hydrogen atoms, X is hydroxymethylene or alkoxymethylene wherein alkoxy is of 1-8 carbon atoms, and Q is carbonyl or dimethoxymethylene.
