Claims
- 1. The compound having the following formula: ##STR24## wherein R is carboxy, a carboxy salt, or --COOY wherein Y is alkyl having from 1-10 carbon atoms;
- A is ethylene, trimethylene, .alpha.-methylethylene, .beta.-methylethylene, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylethylene, or .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylethylene;
- Q is methyl, phenyl, or substituted phenyl;
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl;
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen or loweralkanoyl;
- R.sup.3 is hydrogen or methyl;
- R.sup.4 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl; or, when R.sup.4 is loweralkyl and R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.4 and R.sup.1 can be joined to form a carbocyclic ring with from 6 to 9 members; or when R.sup.4 is loweralkyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen, R.sup.4 can be joined to the carbon atom bearing R.sup.1 or OR.sup.2 to form a carbocyclic ring with from 5 to 8 members.
- 2. The compound of claim 1 wherein R is carboxy, a carboxy salt having the formula:
- --COO.sup.- Me.sup.+
- wherein Me is a pharmaceutically acceptable cation derived from a metal or an amine; or derivatized carboxy having the formula:
- --COOY,
- --conh.sub.2,
- --conr.sup.6 r.sup.7, or
- --CONHNH.sub.2 ;
- wherein Y is alkyl having 1-10 carbon atoms; R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are each independently hydrogen, loweralkyl having 1-4 carbon atoms, or diloweralkylaminoalkyl having 4-7 carbon atoms.
- 3. The compound of claim 2 wherein R is carboxy or a pharmaceutically acceptable carboxy salt.
- 4. The compound of claim 3 which has the formula: ##STR25## wherein A is ethylene, trimethylene, .alpha.-methylethylene, .beta.-methylethylene, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylethylene, or .beta.,.beta.-dimethylethylene; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.7 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl; and Q is methyl, phenyl, or substituted phenyl.
- 5. The compound of claim 4 wherein A is ethylene.
- 6. The compound of claim 5 wherein R.sup.7 is lower-alkyl or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl.
- 7. The compound of claim 6 wherein R.sup.7 is loweralkyl having 2- 5 carbon atoms.
- 8. The compound of claim 7 wherein A is ethylene, and R.sup.7 is ethyl.
- 9. The compound of claim 8 wherein Q is methyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen which is 8-acetyl-8-methyl-12-hydroxyheptadecanoic acid.
- 10. The compound of claim 8 wherein Q is phenyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen which is 8-acetyl-8-phenyl-12-hydroxyheptadecanoic acid.
- 11. 8-Acetyl-8-phenyl-12-hydroxynonadecanoic acid, the compound of claim 7 wherein A is ethylene, R.sup.7 is butyl, Q is phenyl, and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 12. 8-Acetyl-8-(4-fluorophenyl)-12-hydroxyheptadecanoic acid, the compound of claim 8 wherein Q is 4-fluorophenyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 13. 8-Acetyl-8-(2-methylphenyl)-12-hydroxyheptadecanoic acid, the compound of claim 8 wherein Q is 2-methylphenyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 14. 8-Acetyl-8-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-12-hydroxyheptadecanoic acid, the compound of claim 8 wherein Q is 3,4-dichlorophenyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 15. 8-Acetyl-8-(4-methoxyphenyl)-12-hydroxyheptadecanoic acid, the compound of claim 8 wherein Q is 4-methoxyphenyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 16. 8-Acetyl-8-methyl-12-hydroxy-17,17,17-trifluoroheptadecanoic acid, the compound of claim 6 wherein Q is methyl, A is ethylene, R.sup.1 is hydrogen and R.sup.7 is 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl.
- 17. The compound of claim 3 which has the formula: ##STR26## wherein A is ethylene, trimethylene, .alpha.-methylene, .beta.-methylethylene, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylethylene, or .beta.,.beta.-dimethylethylene; R.sup.7 is hydrogen, loweralkyl of 1- 4 carbon atoms, or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl; and Q is methyl or phenyl.
- 18. 8-Acetyl-8-phenyl-12-hydroxy-12-methylheptadecanoic acid, the compound of claim 17 wherein A is ethylene, R.sup.7 is ethyl, and Q is phenyl.
- 19. The compound of claim 3 which has the formula: ##STR27## in which A is ethylene, trimethylene, .alpha.-methylethylene, .beta.-methylethylene, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylethylene, or .beta.,.beta.-dimethylethylene; R.sup.7 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl; and R.sup.2 is loweralkanoyl or hydrogen.
- 20. The compound of claim 2 which has the formula: ##STR28## wherein A is ethylene; R.sup.1 is methyl or hydrogen; R.sup.4 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl; Y is alkyl having 1-10 carbon atoms; and Q is methyl or phenyl.
- 21. The compound of claim 3 which has the formula: ##STR29## wherein A is ethylene, trimethylene, .alpha.-methylethylene, .beta.-methylethylene, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylethylene, or .beta.,.beta.-dimethylethylene; R.sup.7 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl; and Q is methyl or phenyl.
- 22. The compound of claim 3 which has the formula: ##STR30## wherein A is ethylene, trimethylene, .alpha.-methylethylene, .beta.-methylethylene, .alpha.,.alpha.-dimethylethylene, or .beta.,.beta.-dimethylethylene; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.3 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.4 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl; and Q is methyl or phenyl; or when R.sup.4 is loweralkyl and R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.4 and R.sup.1 are joined to form a carbocyclic ring with from 6 to 9 members; or when R.sup.4 is loweralkyl and R.sup.1 is hydrogen, R.sup.4 is joined to the carbon atom bearing R.sup.1 and OH to form a carbocyclic ring with from 5 to 8 members.
