Claims
- 1. A prefabricated wall panel for installation with like wall panels for building a wall, the wall panel comprising a unitary combination of a body having a generally planar portion including an inner surface and an outer surface and a plurality of spaced rib portions integral with said planar portion and extending from said inner surface thereby defining voids therebetween for receiving insulation, said rib portions having edges which are remote from said planar portion, means comprising a strip of insulating material attached to at least one of said edges for reducing thermal conductivity from said respective rib portion to wallboard attached to the wall panel, and means for attaching wallboard to the wall panel, said wallboard attachment means comprising a member which extends about a pair of opposite sides of said strip of insulating material and terminates in edge portions which extend beyond the sides of the strip of insulating material and are anchored in said respective rib portion, and the wall panel further comprising means for insulating said member edge portions from said respective rib portion to limit thermal conductivity from said respective rib portion to said member.
- 2. A wall panel according to claim 1 further comprising means for attaching the wall panel to like wall panels.
- 3. A wall panel according to claim 1 wherein said member is composed of pre-cast concrete.
- 4. A wall panel according to claim 1 wherein said member is composed of a spring metal.
- 5. A wall panel according to claim 1 wherein said strip of insulating material is composed of polystyrene.
- 6. A wall panel according to claim 1 wherein said member edge portions include means defining holes therein for further limiting thermal conductivity from said respective rib portion to said member.
- 7. A prefabricated wall panel for attachment to first and second wall portions, the wall panel comprising a unitary combination of a body having a pair of generally planar portions including an inner surface and an outer surface and which extend at an angle relative to each other and having a plurality of spaced rib portions integral with said planar portions respectively and extending from said inner surface thereby defining voids for receiving insulation, said rib portions having edges which are remote from said planar portions respectively, means comprising insulation material attached to said edges for reducing thermal conductivity from said rib portions to wallboard attached to the wall panel, and means for attaching wallboard to the wall panel.
- 8. A wall panel according to claim 7 wherein said planar portions form an angle with each other of substantially 90 degrees.
- 9. A wall panel according to claim 7 wherein said planar portions form an angle with each other of substantially 135 degrees.
- 10. A sectional wall comprising at least one first and at least one second unitary prefabricated wall panel each of which first and second wall panels includes a member having a generally planar portion including an inner surface and an outer surface and a plurality of rib portions including outer rib portions integral with said planar portion and extending from said inner surface, said rib portions having edges which are remote from said planar portion, means comprising insulating material attached to said edges respectively for reducing thermal conductivity from said rib portions, and means for attaching wallboard to said members, the insulated sectional wall further comprising a prefabricated corner wall panel including a pair of generally planar portions which have an inner surface and an outer surface and which extend at an angle to each other, and further including a pair of outer rib portions extending from said inner surface of said corner wall panel, and means for attaching said outer rib portions of said corner wall panel to respective ones of said outer rib portions of said first and second wall panels respectively.
- 11. An insulated sectional wall according to claim 10 wherein said members are composed of pre-cast concrete.
- 12. An insulated sectional wall according to claim 10 wherein said planar portion of at least one of said first and second wall panels extends in a direction which is different from a direction in which a corresponding one of said planar portions of said corner wall panel extends, said attaching means comprising at least one bracket including a pair of planar portions which extend at an angle relative to each other, means for attaching one of said bracket planar portions to one of said outer rib portions of said corner wall panel, and means for attaching an other one of said bracket planar portions to a respective one of said outer rib portions of said first and second wall panels.
- 13. An insulated sectional wall according to claim 10 wherein said first and second wall panels extend in a direction parallel to each other and are offset from each other.
- 14. A method of making a corner wall panel for attachment to wall panels for building a wall, the method comprising the steps of (a) providing a mold, (b) molding in the mold a member having first and second generally planar portions which form with each other a corner and each including an inner surface and an outer surface, the molding step including inserting at least one first block-out into position for forming rib portions which extend from the inner surface of the first planar portion to edges respectively and at least one second block-out for forming rib portions which extend from the inner surface of the second planar portion to edges respectively, (c) removing said at least one first block-out from the molded member while holding the molded member in a stationary position, and (d) removing said at least one second block-out from the molded member.
- 15. A method according to claim 14 further comprising in the mold for at least one of the rib portion edges an insulation strip and a strip for attachment of wallboard to provide a unitary combination of the member, the insulation strip, and the wallboard attachment strip.
- 16. A method of making a wall panel for attachment to like wall panels for building a wall, the method comprising the steps of (a) providing a mold for casting a concrete body having a generally planar portion including an inner surface and an outer surface and a plurality of rib portions extending from the inner surface to edges, (b) nesting at least one insulation strip within a respective member so that the member extends about sides of the insulation strip and terminates in end portions which extend inwardly relative to the insulation strip sides, (c) thermally insulating said member end portions to limit thermal conductivity from said respective rib portion to said member, (d) inserting the nested insulation strip in the mold portion, and (e) casting the concrete member in the mold with the insulation strip and the member unitarily attached to a rib portion edge with the end portions of the member anchored in the concrete body.
- 17. A corner wall panel mold apparatus comprising a frame shaped to define a form for molding a corner wall panel and having first and second portions for molding first and second generally planar portions which form with each other a corner and each of which planar portions includes an inner surface and an outer surface, at least one first block-out means for forming rib portions which extend from the inner surface of the first planar portion to edges respectively, at least one second block-out means for forming rib portions which extend from the inner surface of the second planar portion to respectively edges, and means for removing said at least one first block-out means from the molded corner wall panel while the molded corner wall panel is held stationary.
- 18. Mold apparatus according to claim 17 further comprising means for varying a length of at least one of the first and second planar portions.
- 19. Mold apparatus according to claim 17 further comprising means for removing at least one mold wall portion from a respective side of the molded corner wall panel so as to remove said at least one second block-out means from the molded corner wall panel.
- 20. In a building having a floor slab and a wall portion including at least one wall panel having at least one planar portion which defines an outer surface, at least one horizontal rib portion which extends inwardly therefrom and which has an edge which is remote from the planar portion, means comprising a strip of insulating material which engages the edge, and means for attaching the strip of insulating material to the horizontal rib portion, the attaching means including a member which extends about inner, upper, and lower sides of the strip of insulating material and terminates in edge portions which extend beyond the upper and lower sides respectively of the strip of insulating material and are anchored in the rib portion, and means for securing the wall panel to the floor slab, said securing means comprising means for attaching said member to said floor slab.
- 21. A building according to claim 20 further comprising cushion material disposed between said member and the floor slab for allowing movement therebetween.
- 22. A building according to claim 20 wherein said member attaching means comprises at least one nail which penetrates said member and the floor slab.
- 23. A building according to claim 20 wherein said member attaching means comprises means defining a cut-out in said member and in said strip of insulating material for providing access to a portion of said member which engages the floor slab for attaching thereof to the floor slab.
- 24. A building according to claim 20 wherein a segment of said member is formed so that portions thereof which extend about upper and lower sides of the strip of insulating material are pressed together for receiving a nail.
- 25. A prefabricated wall panel for installation with like wall panels for building a wall, the wall panel comprising a unitary combination of a body having at least one generally planar portion including an inner surface and an outer surface and a plurality of rib portions including at least one horizontal rib portion integral with said planar portion and extending from said inner surface thereby defining voids therebetween for receiving insulation, said rib portions having edges which are remote from said planar portion, means comprising a strip of insulating material which engages said horizontal rib portion, means for attaching said insulating material strip to said horizontal rib portion, said attaching means comprising a member which extends about inner, upper, and lower sides of said strip of insulating material and which terminates in end portions which extend beyond the upper and lower sides respectively of the strip of insulating material and are anchored in said horizontal rib portion, and means for securing the wall panel to a floor slab, said securing means comprising means for attaching said member to said floor slab.
- 26. A building according to claim 25 wherein said member attaching means comprises means defining a cut-out in said member and in said strip of insulating material for providing access to a portion of said member which engages the floor slab for attaching thereof to the floor slab.
- 27. A building according to claim 25 wherein a segment of said member is formed so that portions thereof which extend about upper and lower sides of the strip of insulating material are pressed together for receiving a nail.
- 28. A wall panel according to claim 1, and further comprising a separately formed, thermally insulative planar panel affixed to said planar portion.
- 29. A wall panel according to claim 28, wherein said thermally insulative face panel comprises a lightweight thermally insulative concrete panel.
- 30. A wall panel according to claim 28, wherein said thermally insulative panel comprises a foam panel faced with a thin layer of concrete.
- 31. A wall panel according to claim 1, wherein said rib portions are undercut adjacent said panel portion.
- 32. A wall panel according to claim 1, and further including a utility chase integrally formed within said spaced rib portions.
- 33. A sectional wall according to claim 10, and further comprising a separately formed, thermally insulative planar panel affixed to said planar portion.
- 34. A sectional wall according to claim 33, wherein said thermally insulative face panel comprises a lightweight thermally insulative concrete panel.
- 35. A sectional wall according to claim 33, wherein said thermally insulative panel comprises a foam panel faced with a thin layer of concrete.
- 36. A sectional wall according to claim 10, wherein said rib portions are undercut adjacent said panel portion.
- 37. A sectional wall according to claim 10, and further including a utility chase integrally formed within said spaced rib portions.
- 38. In a building according to claim 20, and further comprising a separately formed, thermally insulative planar panel affixed to said planar portion.
- 39. In a building according to claim 38, wherein said thermally insulative face panel comprises a lightweight thermally insulative concrete panel.
- 40. In a building according to claim 38, wherein said thermally insulative panel comprises a foam panel faced with a thin layer of concrete.
- 41. In a building according to claim 20, wherein said rib portions are undercut adjacent said panel portion.
- 42. In a building according to claim 20, and further including a utility chase integrally formed within said spaced rib portions.
