Claims
- 1. A release liner for use with pressure-sensitive adhesives which comprises a liner substrate providing a surface having thereon a solid release coating which remains substantially on said substrate surface, said solid release coating comprising a blend of a cured silicone polymer component and a particulate component in which the cured silicone polymer component is present in an amount of from about 5 to about 80 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate component and obtained by hydrosilation cure of a vinyl-addition silicone system which comprises at least one vinyl silicone polymer, at least one silicone hydride crosslinker with cure being catalyzed by a Group VIII metal catalyst, the coating being formed by application of an aqueous-based emulsion of the curable vinyl-addition silicone system, catalyst and a contained particulate component to the substrate surface, drying the applied emulsion and inducing hydrosilation cure of the vinyl-addition silicone system.
- 2. A release liner as claimed in claim 1 in which the cured silicone polymer component is present in an amount of from about 15 to about 50 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate component.
- 3. A release liner as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cured silicone polymer component is present in an amount of from about 20 to about 40 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate component.
- 4. A release liner as claimed in claim 1, wherein the release liner substrate is paper.
- 5. A release liner according to claim 4, wherein the paper is a porous paper.
- 6. A release liner as claimed in claim 5, wherein the paper is selected from the group consisting of Kraft paper, newsprint stock, coated papers, wood-free papers, and papers made from recycled fiber.
- 7. A release liner as claimed in claim 5 in which the paper is machine finished or machined glazed paper.
- 8. A release liner as claimed in claim 1 in which the Group VIII metal is platinum.
- 9. A release liner for use with pressure-sensitive adhesives comprising a porous substrate providing a surface having thereon a solid release coating which remains substantially on the substrate surface, said solid release coating comprising a blend of a cured silicone polymer component and a particulate resin component, the cured silicone polymer component being present in an amount of from about 5 to about 80 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate resin component and obtained by hydrosilation cure of a vinyl-addition silicone system comprised of at least one vinyl silicone polymer and at least one silicone hydride crosslinker catalyzed with a Group VIII metal catalyst, the particulate resin component comprising at least one resin and the coating being formed by application of aqueous-based emulsion containing the vinyl-addition silicone system, catalyst and particulate resin component to the substrate surface, drying the applied emulsion and inducing hydrosilation cure of the vinyl-addition silicone system.
- 10. A release liner as claimed in claim 9 in which the cured silicone polymer component is present in an amount of from about 15 to about 50 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate resin component.
- 11. A release liner as claimed in claim 9 wherein the cured silicone component is present in an amount of from about 20 to about 40 percent by weight based on the weight of the silicone polymer component and the particulate resin component.
- 12. A release liner as claimed in claim 9, wherein the release liner is paper substrate.
- 13. A release liner according to claim 12, wherein the paper is porous paper.
- 14. A release liner as claimed in claim 13 wherein the paper is selected from the group consisting of Kraft paper, super-calendared Kraft paper, newsprint stock, coated papers, wood-free papers, and papers made from recycled fiber.
- 15. A release liner as claimed in claim 13 in which the paper is machine finished or machine glazed paper.
- 16. A release liner as claimed in claim 9 in which the Group VIII metal is platinum.
- 17. A release liner as claimed in claim 9 in which the particulate resin component is selected from the group consisting of acrylic resins, ethylene-vinyl acetate resins, methacrylate resins, natural rubber, styrene resins, styrene-acrylonitrile resins, styrene-butadiene resins, styrene-isoprene resins, chloroprene, and mixtures thereof.
- 18. A release liner for use with pressure-sensitive adhesives comprises a porous paper substrate providing a surface having thereon a solid release coating which remains substantially on the porous paper substrate surface, said solid release coating comprising a blend of a cured silicone polymer component and a particulate resin component, the cured silicone component being obtained by hydrosilation cure of a vinyl-addition silicone system comprising at least one vinyl silicone polymer and at least one silicone hydride crosslinker with cure being catalyzed by a platinum catalyst, and in which there is dispersed in the silicone polymer component the particulate resin component, the resin component comprising resins having a glass transition temperature of from about -125.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C. and being essentially inert to the cure of the vinyl-addition silicone system, and the coating being formed by application of an aqueous-based emulsion of the vinyl-addition silicone system and the particle resin component to the surface, drying the applied emulsion and inducing hydrosilation cure of the vinyl addition silicone system said release coating having a cured silicone polymer component content of from about 5 to about 50 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate resin component said release coating being provided on the paper substrate surface at a coat weight of from about 1 to about 10 g/m.sup.2.
- 19. A release liner as claimed in claim 18 in which the cured silicone component is present in an amount of from about 5 to about 80 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone component and the particulate resin component.
- 20. A release liner as claimed in claim 18 wherein the cured silicone component is present in an amount of from about 20 to about 40 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and resin component.
- 21. A release liner as claimed in claim 18 wherein the porous paper substrate is selected from the group consisting of newsprint stock, coated papers, wood-free papers, and papers made from recycled fiber.
- 22. A release liner as claimed in claim 18 in which the porous paper substrate is machine finished or machine glazed paper.
- 23. A release liner as claimed in claim 18 in which the particulate resin component is selected from the group consisting of acrylic resins, ethylene-vinyl acetate resins, methacrylate resins, natural rubber, styrene resins, styrene acrylonitrile resins, styrene-butadiene resins, styrene isoprene resins, chloroprene, and mixtures thereof.
- 24. A paper substrate providing thereon a release coating for release of pressure-sensitive adhesives which comprises a solid release coating which remains substantially on the paper substrate surface, said solid release coating comprised of a blend of a particulate resin component, and a cured silicone polymer component, the cured silicone polymer component being present in an amount of from about 5 to about 40 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone component and the particulate resin component and derived by hydrosilation cure of vinyl-addition silicone system comprising at least one vinyl silicone polymer and at least one silicone hydride crosslinker said cure being catalyzed with a platinum catalyst, the resin component comprising resins having a glass transition temperature of from about -125.degree. C. to 100.degree. C. and selected from the group consisting of acrylic resins, ethylene-vinyl acetate resins, methacrylate resins, natural rubber, styrene resins, styrene-acrylonitrile resins, styrene-butadiene resins, styrene-isoprene resins, chloroprene, and mixtures thereof, said resins being essentially inert to the cure of the vinyl-addition silicone system, said release surface being derived from application of aqueous-based emulsion of the vinyl-addition silicone system and the particle resin component to the paper substrate surface followed by drying the emulsion and hydrosilation cure of the vinyl-addition silicone system, said paper substrate surface being a porous paper stock selected from the group of Kraft paper, newsprint stock, coated papers, wood-free papers, and papers made from recycled fiber and the coating on said paper substrate having a coat weight of from about 1 to about 10 g/m.sup.2.
- 25. A substrate as claimed in claim 24 in which the cured silicone component is present in an amount of from about 15 to about 40 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone component and particulate resin component.
- 26. A substrate as claimed in claim 24 wherein the cured silicone component is present in an amount of from about 20 to about 40 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone component and particulate resin component.
- 27. A substrate as claimed in claim 24 in which the particulate resin component is selected from the group consisting of acrylate resins, ethylene-vinyl acetate resins, methacrylate resins, natural rubber, styrene polymers, styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers, styrene-butadiene block copolymers, styrene-isoprene block copolymer, chloroprene, and mixtures thereof.
- 28. A release liner for use with pressure-sensitive adhesives which comprises a machine glazed or machine finished porous paper substrate of a weight from 30 to 40 pounds per ream having on at least one surface thereof a solid release coating which remains substantially on the paper substrate surface, said solid release coating comprising a cured silicone component and a particulate resin component, the cured silicone component being present in an amount of from about 20 to 40 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone component and particulate resin component and derived from hydrosilation cure of a vinyl-addition silicone system comprising at least one vinyl silicone polymer and at least one silicone hydride crosslinker catalyzed with a platinum catalyst, the particulate resin component comprising at least one resin having a glass transition temperature of from about -125.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C., and a number average molecular weight greater than two times the entanglement molecular weight, and being essentially inert to the cure of the vinyl-addition silicone systems, the coating being derived from application of an aqueous-based emulsion of the vinyl-addition silicone system and the particulate resin component in particulate form to the porous paper substrate surface and thermally drying the emulsion and curing the vinyl addition silicone system to form a release coating having a coating weight of from about 1 to about 10 g/m.sup.2.
- 29. A release liner as claimed in claim 28 in which the particulate resin component is selected from the group consisting of acrylate resins, ethylene-vinyl acetate resins, methacrylate resins, natural rubber, styrene polymers, styrene acrylonitrile copolymers, styrene butadiene block copolymers, styrene isoprene block copolymers, chloroprene, and mixtures thereof.
- 30. A release liner for use with pressure-sensitive adhesives which comprises a porous substrate providing at least one surface having thereon a solid release coating which remains substantially on said porous substrate surface, said solid release coating comprising a blend of a cured silicone polymer component and a particulate component in which the cured silicone polymer component is present in an amount of from about 5 to about 80 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate component and obtained, by hydrosilation cure of a vinyl-addition silicone system which comprises at least one vinyl silicone polymer, at least one silicone hydride crosslinker with cure being catalyzed by a Group VIII metal catalyst, the coating being formed by application of an aqueous-based emulsion of the curable vinyl-addition silicone system, catalyst and a contained particulate component to the substrate surface and drying the applied emulsion and inducing hydrosilation cure of the vinyl-addition silicone system.
- 31. A release liner as claimed in claim 30 in which the cured silicone polymer component is present in an amount of from about 15 to 50 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate component.
- 32. A release liner as claimed in claim 31, wherein the cured silicone polymer component is present in an amount of from about 20 to about 40 percent by weight based on the weight of the cured silicone polymer component and particulate component.
- 33. A substrate as claimed in claim 30 in which the particulate component is selected from the group consisting of acrylate resins, ethylene-vinyl acetate resins, methacrylate resins, natural rubber, styrene polymers, styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers, styrene-butadiene block copolymers, styrene-isoprene block copolymers, chloroprene, and mixtures thereof.
