Claims
- 1. A honing tool comprising an elongated cup element, a bundle of tightly packed parallel abrasive containing plastic fingers secured in the bottom of said cup element and projecting therefrom a short distance to form a uniform tool face comprising the tightly compacted tips of said fingers, said abrasive containing plastic fingers being rectangular in transverse sectional configuration and randomly packed.
- 2. A honing tool comprising an elongated cup element, a bundle of tightly packed parallel abrasive containing plastic fingers secured in the bottom of said cup element and projecting therefrom a short distance to form a uniform tool face comprising the tightly compacted tips of said fingers, said fingers being secured to the bottom of said cup element by a cyanoacrylate adhesive, and wherein said cup element is rectangular and said adhesive extends through a lateral port in said cup element to lock said bundle to the cup element.
- 3. A honing tool comprising an elongated cup element, a bundle of tightly packed parallel abrasive containing plastic fingers secured in the bottom of said cup element and projecting therefrom a short distance to form a uniform tool face comprising the tightly compacted tips of said fingers, said bundle being formed from fingers slit or scored extending from one edge of a strip, the opposite strip edge being secured to the bottom of the cup element, and wherein the tip of each finger is slightly twisted from the plane of the strip.
- 4. A honing tool comprising an elongated cup element, a plurality of elongated strip elements each having opposite elongated edges and secured by one edge to the bottom of the cup element, the opposite edge of each strip element projecting beyond the cup and constituting the working face of the honing tool, the projecting opposite edges of at least some of said strip elements berg slit to form fingers the tips of which also constitute the working face of the tool, said elongated strip elements forming a rectangular bundle of parallel strip elements, with all of said strip opposite edges in the center of the bundle being slit to form such fingers, the strips at each side of the bundle being unslit.
- 5. A honing tool as set forth in claim 1 wherein said abrasive containing plastic fingers are extruded nylon containing abrasive homogeneously embedded therein.
- 6. A honing tool as set forth in claim 1 wherein said cup element is rectangular and said bundle and the projecting compacted tip working face is oblong.
- 7. A honing tool as set forth in claim 1 wherein said plastic is selected from the group consisting of nylons, aramids, polyesters and polyamides.
- 8. A honing tool as set forth in claim 7 wherein said plastic has from about 30 to about 45 percent abrasive homogeneously embedded therein.
