Claims
- 1. An absorbent article having a body-facing side and a garment side, said absorbent article comprising:
- a main body portion comprising:
- an absorbent assembly having a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge;
- a retaining member having an inward longitudinal edge, an outward longitudinal edge, a first surface facing away from said absorbent assembly, and a second surface facing toward said absorbent assembly, and comprising a unitary release material joined thereto, at least a portion of said inward longitudinal edge being joined to said absorbent assembly at a point of connection so that at least a portion of said retaining member and said outward longitudinal edge are decoupled from said absorbent assembly to form a recessed area; and
- a flap joined along a line of juncture to said absorbent assembly having a proximal edge adjacent the line of juncture, a distal edge disposed away from the line of juncture, and comprising a flap adhesive joined thereto, at least a portion of said flap being tucked into said recessed area so that said flap adhesive is superposed by and releasably secured to said unitary release material of said first retaining member.
- 2. The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said unitary release material of said retaining member is joined to said second surface of said retaining member.
- 3. The absorbent article of claim 2 wherein said flap comprises a graspable tab member which extends laterally outward beyond the outward longitudinal edge of said retaining member.
- 4. The absorbent article of claim 3 wherein said graspable tab member of said flap comprises the distal edge of said flap.
- 5. The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said unitary release material of said retaining member is joined to said first surface of said retaining member and said retaining member is folded such that the outward longitudinal edge and said unitary release material are positioned within the recessed area.
- 6. The absorbent article of claim 5 wherein said outward longitudinal edge of said retaining member is joined to a portion of said flap.
- 7. The absorbent article of claim 5 wherein said flap comprises a graspable tab member which extends laterally outward beyond the outward longitudinal edge of said retaining member.
- 8. The absorbent article of claim 7 wherein said graspable tab member of said flap comprises the distal edge of said flap.
- 9. An absorbent article having a body-facing side and a garment side, said absorbent article comprising:
- a main body portion comprising:
- an absorbent assembly having a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge;
- a retaining member having an inward longitudinal edge, an outward longitudinal edge, a first surface facing away from said absorbent assembly, and a second surface facing toward said absorbent assembly and comprising a unitary release material joined to said first surface, at least a portion of said inward longitudinal being joined to said absorbent assembly at a point of connection such that at least a portion of said retaining member and said outward longitudinal edge are decoupled from said absorbent assembly to form a recessed area, and said retaining member being folded along a fold line such that a portion of said first surface with said unitary release member joined thereto is positioned within said recessed area; and
- a flap joined along a line of juncture to said absorbent assembly having a proximal edge adjacent the line of juncture, a distal edge disposed away from the line of juncture, and comprising a flap adhesive joined thereto, at least a portion of said flap being tucked into said recessed area such that said flap adhesive is superposed by and releasably secured to said unitary release material of said retaining member.
- 10. The absorbent article of claim 9 wherein said outward longitudinal edge of said retaining member is joined to a portion of said flap.
- 11. The absorbent article of claim 9 wherein said flap comprises a graspable tab member which extends laterally outward beyond the first longitudinal edge of said absorbent assembly.
- 12. The absorbent article of claim 11 wherein said graspable tab member of said flap comprises the distal edge of said flap.
- 13. An absorbent article for wearing in a user's undergarment, said absorbent article having a body-facing side and a garment side, said absorbent article comprising:
- a main body portion comprising:
- an absorbent assembly comprising an absorbent core and two spaced apart longitudinal edges; and
- a retaining member comprising two end regions, a center region positioned between and joined to said end regions, an inward longitudinal edge, an outward longitudinal edge, a first surface facing away from said absorbent assembly, and a second surface facing toward said absorbent assembly, and comprising a unitary release material joined to said second surface, at least a portion of said end regions being joined to said absorbent assembly at a point of connection, at least a portion of said center region being decoupled from said absorbent assembly to form a recessed area;
- a flap joined along a line of juncture to said main body portion and having a proximal edge adjacent the line of juncture, a distal edge disposed away from the line of juncture, and comprising a flap adhesive joined thereto, at least a portion of said flap being tucked into said recessed area such that said flap adhesive is superposed by and releasably secured to said unitary release material of said retaining member.
- 14. The absorbent article of claim 13 wherein said flap is joined to said retaining member of said main body portion.
- 15. The absorbent article of claim 14 wherein said flap is joined to the outward longitudinal edge of said retaining member.
- 16. The absorbent article of claim 13 wherein said flap is joined to said absorbent assembly of said main body portion.
- 17. The absorbent article of claim 16 wherein said flap is joined to one of the longitudinal edges of said absorbent assembly of said main body portion.
- 18. The absorbent article of claim 13 wherein said absorbent assembly comprises a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet, and an absorbent core positioned between said topsheet and said backsheet, and said retaining member is comprised of at least a portion of said absorbent assembly.
