Claims
- 1. A disposable absorbent article having a lateral centerline, a lateral direction parallel to the lateral centerline, a longitudinal centerline, a longitudinal direction parallel to the longitudinal centerline, thickness, and an axial direction parallel to the thickness, the absorbent article comprising:
- a containment assembly comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core positioned between said topsheet and said backsheet, said absorbent core having side edges and waist edges; and an elastic waist feature at least extending longitudinally outwardly from one of said waist edges of said absorbent core, said elastic waist feature comprising an elasticized waistband comprising a portion of said backsheet, a portion of said topsheet, an elastic member, and a resilient member aligned in said axially direction with and joined to at least a portion of said elastic member for providing buckling resistance, shape recovery and bending stiffness to said elasticized waistband.
- 2. The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said elasticized waistband has an edge compression stiffness greater than about 100 grams force.
- 3. The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said elasticized waistband comprises a shaping panel zone, a waistline panel zone flexurally joined with said shaping panel zone, and a resilient waistband flexural hinge zone joining said shaping panel zone and said waistline panel zone, said shaping panel zone having an edge compression stiffness greater than or equal to the edge compression stiffness of said waistline panel zone.
- 4. The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said elastomeric member and said resilient member are positioned between said topsheet and said backsheet.
- 5. The absorbent article of claim 4 wherein said resilient member is positioned between said backsheet and said elastomeric member.
- 6. The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said elasticized waistband additionally comprises a facing member, said elastomeric member and said resilient member being positioned between said backsheet and said facing member, and said portion of said topsheet being positioned adjacent said backsheet between said backsheet and said elastomeric member.
- 7. The absorbent article of claim 6 wherein said resilient member is positioned between said topsheet and said elastomeric member.
- 8. The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said elastomeric member and said resilient member are positioned between said topsheet and said backsheet.
- 9. The absorbent article of claim 8 wherein said resilient member is positioned between said backsheet and said elastomeric member.
- 11. The absorbent article of claim 10 wherein said resilient member is positioned between said topsheet and said elastomeric member.
- 12. The absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said resilient member comprises a nonwoven material having fibers.
- 13. The absorbent article of claim 12 wherein said fibers of said nonwoven material are oriented in the longitudinal direction to reduce the lateral direction gather resistance.
- 14. The absorbent article of claim 13 wherein said nonwoven material of said resilient member is hydrophobic.
- 15. The absorbent article of claim 14 wherein said nonwoven material comprises a carded nonwoven web of bicomponent fibers.
- 16. The absorbent article of claim 15 wherein said nonwoven carded web has a basis weight of from about 20 to about 45 grams per square yard.
- 17. The absorbent article of claim 16 wherein said resilient member has a drapability as measured using ASTM B1388-64 of at least about 4 cm in the lateral direction and at least about 12 cm in the longitudinal direction.
