Claims
- 1. A retaining screw for fastening a dental component to a dental implant, the retaining screw comprising:
a body including a head having a seating surface adapted to engage a seating surface inside a cavity of the dental component, and including a shank extending downwardly from the head and having external threads adapted to threadably engage a threaded socket of the dental implant; and a spring-washer connected to the head and having an annular body and at least one resilient leg extending downwardly from the body, wherein the spring-washer is engageable with the dental component and adapted to prevent the retaining screw from loosening while the retaining screw is threadably engaged in the socket of the dental implant.
- 2. The retaining screw of claim 1 wherein the body is formed from a first material, and the spring-washer is formed from a second material that is different than the first material.
- 3. The retaining screw of claim 2 wherein the body is formed from titanium, and the spring-washer is formed from gold.
- 4. The retaining screw of claim 1 wherein the spring-washer has three resilient legs extending downwardly from the body, wherein each leg is equally spaced around the body and has an elongated configuration.
- 5. The retaining screw of claim 4 wherein each leg has a distal end with a locking component adapted to engage and lock with the cavity of the dental component to prevent the retaining screw from rotating while engaged in the socket of the dental implant.
- 6. The retaining screw of claim 4 wherein the locking component is a foot that protrudes outwardly from the leg.
- 7. A dental kit attachable to a coronal end of a dental implant, the kit comprising:
a dental abutment having an internal cavity with a locking mechanism; and a dental retaining screw having an elongated body and a spring-washer connected to the body, the spring-washer having an annular body and at least two resilient legs each having a locking component, the legs extending from the annular body and biasing the locking component against the locking mechanism to prevent the retaining screw from loosening while the retaining screw is threadably engaged with the dental implant.
- 8. The dental kit of claim 7 wherein the locking mechanism is located on the internal cavity and is one of a partial sphere, square, groove, channel, or indentation.
- 9. The dental kit of claim 8 wherein the locking component is a foot engageable with the locking mechanism.
- 10. The dental kit of claim 7 wherein the retaining screw further includes at least two channels on an exterior surface of the body, and each leg is positioned into one channel.
- 11. The dental kit of claim 10 wherein the legs are flexibly moveable in a radial direction inside the channels.
- 12. The dental kit of claim 11 wherein the legs are adapted to move radially to engage and lock with the locking mechanism of the dental abutment.
- 13. The dental kit of claim 12 wherein the locking component is a protrusion, the locking mechanism is a channel, and the protrusion is adapted to engage the protrusion.
- 14. The dental kit of claim 7 wherein the annular body of the spring-washer has a threaded internal surface, and the spring-washer is removably threadable to body of the retaining screw.
- 15. A dental retaining screw, comprising:
a body formed from a first material and having a head portion and an externally threaded shank adapted to threadably engage with a dental implant; and a spring-washer formed from a second material different than the first material and connected to the body and including at least one resilient leg, the leg having an elongated configuration and a locking component, wherein the leg moveably biases the locking component and is adapted to prevent the retaining screw from loosening when threadably engaged with the dental implant.
- 16. The retaining screw of claim 15 wherein:
retaining screw includes an exterior surface with at least two separate housings; the leg is at least partially positioned in one of the housings; the first material is one of titanium or steal; and the second material is one of gold or titanium with a diamond-like carbon coating.
- 17. The retaining screw of claim 16 wherein the leg is moveable in an axial direction while in the housing.
- 18. The retaining screw of claim 17 wherein the leg has a distal end, and the locking component is at the distal end and at least partially protrudes from the housing.
- 19. The retaining screw of claim 18 wherein the locking component is a generally rectangular protrusion, and the housing is an elongated channel.
- 20. The retaining screw of claim 15 wherein the leg has a generally rectangular cross-section and is positioned in the channel so the protrusion flexible moves in a radial direction toward and from the body of the retaining screw.
