Claims
- 1. A purified, cytotoxic compound named melanodocin which melts with decomposition and gas evolution at 164.degree.-166.degree. C.; has a specific rotation [.alpha.].sub.D.sup.25 of 25.4 (C 0.24, CHCl.sub.3); and exhibits the infrared spectrum and 270 MH.sub.z .sup.1 H NMR spectrum as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5.
- 2. A purified, cytotoxic compound named melanodocin which is isolated by extracting the sponge Halichondria melanodocia with one or more solvents and separating melanodocin therefrom.
- 3. The methyl ester of the compound of claim 1.
