Claims
- 1. A method of testing the purity of a cryogenic liquid dispensed through a volumetric flow meter from a sump comprising the steps of:
a) measuring a temperature of cryogenic liquid in the sump; b) measuring a dielectric of the cryogenic liquid in the sump; and c) comparing the dielectric of step b) with the dielectric for pure cryogenic liquid corresponding to the temperature measured in step a).
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of:
d) using the dielectric from step b) to obtain a corresponding density for the cryogenic liquid; and e) using the density and a volume of dispensed cryogenic liquid from the volumetric flow meter to obtain a mass flow for the dispensed cryogenic liquid.
- 3. The method of claim 1 further comprising the steps of:
d) calculating a density compensation factor based upon the dielectrics of steps b) and c); e) using the temperature from step a) to obtain a density of the pure cryogenic liquid; f) applying the density compensation factor to the density of step e) to obtain a density for the cryogenic liquid; and g) using the density for the cryogenic liquid obtained in step f) and a volume of dispensed cryogenic liquid from the volumetric flow meter to obtain a mass flow for the dispensed cryogenic liquid.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the cryogenic liquid is LNG and the pure cryogenic liquid is methane.
- 5. A method of measuring a mass flow of a cryogenic liquid dispensed through a primary meter and a compensating meter comprising the steps of:
a) measuring a first characteristic of the cryogenic liquid with the primary meter; b) measuring a second characteristic of the cryogenic liquid with the compensating meter; c) calculating a density of the dispensed cryogenic liquid using the first characteristic from step a) and the second characteristic from step b); and d) calculating the mass flow of dispensed cryogenic liquid using the density from step c).
- 6. The method of claim 5 wherein the first characteristic of step a) is a change in pressure across the primary meter and the second characteristic of step b) is a frequency of cryogenic liquid flow through the compensating meter.
- 7. The method of claim 5 further comprising the steps of:
e) providing a sump containing cryogenic liquid to be dispensed; f) measuring the temperature of the cryogenic liquid in the sump; g) using the temperature from step e) to obtain the density of a pure cryogenic liquid; and h) comparing the densities of steps c) and g) to determine a purity of the cryogenic liquid.
