Claims
- 1. A substrate for an acoustic touch sensor system comprising:
- an acoustically transmissive medium having a surface with a touch sensitive region having at least one side;
- at least two reflective arrays, disposed parallel to one another and on the same side of the touch sensitive region, together having a two dimensional Fourier transform with at least two useful spacing vector components.
- 2. The substrate according to claim 1, wherein said two useful spacing vector components are for waves scattering at different angles.
- 3. The substrate according to claim 1, wherein said two useful spacing vector components are for waves of differing frequencies.
- 4. The substrate according to claim 1, wherein said two useful spacing vector components include at least one acoustic wave mode conversion.
- 5. The substrate according to claim 1, wherein said reflective arrays are superposed.
- 6. An acoustic sensor comprising:
- an acoustically transmissive medium, having at least one surface adapted for sensing proximity of an object;
- at least two sets of acoustically reflective elements formed on said medium, each set of elements having at least two elements and forming a respective reflective array having at least one useful spacing vector component of its two-dimensional Fourier transform, a spacing vector of a first reflective array being non-orthogonal and non-identical to a spacing vector of a second reflective array.
- 7. The sensor according to claim 6, wherein said two useful spacing vector components are for waves scattering at different angles.
- 8. The sensor according to claim 6, wherein said two useful spacing vector components are for waves of differing frequencies.
- 9. The sensor according to claim 6, wherein said two useful spacing vector components include at least one acoustic wave mode conversion.
- 10. The sensor according to claim 6, wherein said reflective arrays are superposed.
- 11. The sensor according to claim 6, wherein said reflective arrays are not disposed coaxial or perpendicular relative to each other.
- 12. The sensor according to claim 6, wherein said medium comprises glass.
- 13. The sensor according to claim 6, wherein said reflective elements comprise raised acoustically reflective material formed on a surface of said medium.
- 14. The sensor according to claim 6, further comprising an electronic control adapted to receive and distinguish acoustic waves corresponding to a spacing vector of said first reflective array and a spacing vector of said second reflective array to detect a characteristic of the object.
- 15. The sensor according to claim 6, further comprising an electronic control system for receiving acoustic waves corresponding to a spacing vector of said first reflective array and a spacing vector of said second reflective array, said electronic control system analyzing said received acoustic waves in acoustic wave phase sensitive manner.
- 16. The sensor according to claim 6, further comprising an electronic control adapted to receive and distinguish acoustic waves corresponding to a spacing vector of said first reflective array being different from a spacing vector of said second reflective array to detect the object.
- 17. A touch sensor comprising:
- an acoustic wave transmissive medium having a surface, at least a portion of said surface being adapted for sensing a proximity of an object; and
- an array, associated with said medium, having a plurality of spaced elements for scattering portions of an incident acoustic wave as waves each having a different propagation vector than said incident acoustic wave, and passing other portions unscattered, said array being situated along a path, said array having associated propagation vectors of scattered portions of the acoustic wave which are not substantially perpendicular to the incident acoustic wave over the array, said path being distinct from a segment parallel and adjacent to a side of a rectangular region of a small solid angle section of a sphere.
- 18. A method of forming an acoustic sensor comprising:
- providing an acoustically transmissive medium having at least one surface adapted for sensing proximity of an object;
- forming on the medium an array, having a plurality of spaced elements for scattering portions of an incident acoustic wave as waves each having a different propagation vector than said incident acoustic wave, and passing other portions unscattered, said array being situated along a path, said array having associated propagation vectors of scattered portions of the acoustic wave which are not substantially perpendicular to the incident acoustic wave over the array, said path being distinct from a segment parallel and adjacent to a side of a rectangular region of a small solid angle section of a sphere.
- 19. The method according to claim 14, wherein said forming step comprises depositing acoustically reflective material on a surface of the medium.
