Claims
- 1. An aqueous dispersion of a cross-linkable acrylic ester copolymer, said copolymer consisting essentially of
- a. 50 to 95% by weight of monomeric units derived from at least one acrylic acid ester and/or methacrylic acid ester of a saturated aliphatic alcohol having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms,
- b. 0.5 to 25% by weight of monomeric units derived from at least one monomer selected from styrene, methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, acrylic amide and methacrylic amide, said (b) monomer being different from said (a) monomer,
- c. 0.5 to 8% by weight of monomeric units derived from an .alpha.-haloalkanecarboxylic acid vinyl ester of the formula ##STR3## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each is hydrogen or an alkyl radical having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms and X is fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine,
- d. 0.5 to 5% by weight of monomeric units derived from at least one .alpha., .beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having from 3 to 8 carbon atoms or a partial ester thereof with a saturated aliphatic alcohol having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and
- e. 0.1 to 5% by weight of monomeric units derived from at least one monomer of the formula ##STR4## wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen, a methyl group or the group --COOR.sub.6, R.sub.4 and R.sub.3 each is hydrogen or a methyl group and R.sub.6 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms.
- 2. An aqueous dispersion of a cross-linkable acrylic ester copolymer, said copolymer comprising
- a. 50 to 95% by weight of monomeric units derived from 2-ethylhexyl acrylate.
- b. 0.5 to 25% by weight of monomeric units derived from acrylonitrile,
- c. 0.5 to 8% by weight of units derived from monochloroacetic acid vinyl ester,
- d. 0.5 to 5% by weight of units derived from acrylic acid, and
- e. 0.1 to 5% by weight of units derived from hydroxypropyl methacrylate.
- 3. An aqueous dispersion of a cross-linkable acrylic ester copolymer, said copolymer consisting essentially of
- a. 50 to 95% by weight of monomeric units derived from at least one acrylic acid ester and/or methacrylic acid ester of a saturated aliphatic alcohol having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms,
- b. 0.5 to 25% by weight of monomeric units derived from at least one monomer, selected from styrene, methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, acrylic amide and methacrylic amide, said (b) monomer being different from said (a) monomer,
- c. 0.1 to 10% by weight of monomeric units derived from an .alpha.-haloalkanecarboxylic acid vinyl ester of the formula ##STR5## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each is hydrogen or an alkyl radical having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms and X is fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine,
- d. 0.1 to 10% by weight of monomeric units derived from at least one .alpha., .beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having from 3 to 8 carbon atoms or a partial ester thereof with a saturated aliphatic alcohol having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and
- e. 0.1 to 5% by weight of monomeric units derived from at least one monomer of the formula ##STR6## wherein R.sub.3 is hydrogen, a methyl group or the group --COOR.sub.6, R.sub.4 and R.sub.3 each is hydrogen or a methyl group and R.sub.6 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms.
- 4. An aqueous dispersion according to claim 1 having a solids content of from 30 to 70% by weight.
