Claims
- 1. A method of preparing a polymer comprising:1) forming a slurry by cooling a solution containing a synthetic wax monomer of formula I: wherein R1 is selected from H and CH3, R2 is selected from H and C1-C5 alkyl, R3 is selected from H and CH3, n=9-115, and m=0-1370; wherein the synthetic wax monomer of formula I is less soluble in organic solvents than other synthetic wax monomers; and a solvent; 2) forming a reaction mixture by admixing at least one second monomer with the slurry; and 3) polymerizing the reaction mixture in the presence of an initiator.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the polymer comprises as polymerized units, from 1 to less than 50 percent by weight of the synthetic wax monomer and from 50 to 99 percent by weight of the at least one second monomer.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the polymer comprises as polymerized units, from 3 to 45 percent by weight of the synthetic wax monomer and from 55 to 97 percent by weight of the at least one second monomer.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the synthetic wax monomer of formula I has n=12-90.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the synthetic wax monomer of formula I has n=15-50.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the solvent is selected from the group consisting of hexane, heptane, xylene, toluene, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, hexanol, heptanol, octanol, decane, and decalin.
