Claims
- 1. An adapter for an electronic interconnect assembly comprising:a high speed coaxial interconnect having a central signal conductor and a surrounding shield conductor with the coaxial interconnect having a male side and a female side; the female side including a shield sleeve defining a chamber for receiving a male shield contact on the male side; the shield sleeve including a contact facility having a compliant portion operable to flexibly grip the male shield contact; a mechanical alignment facility portion selected from a pair of coarse mechanical alignment portions comprising a pocket and a closely mating elongate body receiveable in the packet wherein the pocket has a rim and a floor recessed below the rim, and wherein one side of the interconnect is connected to the floor, such that the rim provides a first angular displacement limit of the elongate body, and a pair of fine mechanical alignment portions including a tapered notch defined in one of the pocket and elongate body having a shouldered guide formed therein and a key closely mating with the notch defined in the other of the pocket and elongate body such that the shouldered guide of the notch receiving the key provides a second angular displacement limit of the elongate body; one of the male side and the female side of the coaxial interconnect selected for connection to the selected coarse mechanical alignment portion; and an electrical signal connector having a central signal conductor and a surrounding shield conductor connected to the selected coarse mechanical alignment portion and electrically coupled to the respective central signal conductor and surrounding shield conductor of the selected side of the coaxial interconnect.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 including a separate electronic data interconnect portion selected from a pair of electronic data interconnect portions comprising compliant contacts and fixed surface contacts.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein one of the compliant contacts and fixed surface contacts are selected for the selected mechanical alignment facilities portion.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 2 where the compliant contacts include pogo pins.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the interconnect is a blind mating interconnect.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the assembly includes only a single high speed interconnect.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the male shield contact has a tapered exterior end portion.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein at least one of the key and the notch is positioned at the rim.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the electrical signal connector is a BNC connector selected from a male connector and a female connector.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the electrical signal connector is a SMA connector selected from a male connector and a female connector.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the electrical signal connector is a N type connector selected from a male connector and a female connector.
- 12. An adapter for an electronic interconnect assembly comprising:a high speed coaxial interconnect having a central signal conductor and a surrounding shield conductor, the coaxial interconnect having a male side and a female side; the female side including a shield sleeve defining a chamber for receiving a male shield contact on the male side; the shield sleeve including a contact facility having a compliant portion operable to flexibly grip the male shield contact; a mechanical alignment facility portion selected from a pair of coarse mechanical alignment portions comprising the pocket and a closely mating elongate body receiveable in the pocket wherein the pocket has a rim and a floor recessed below the rim, and wherein one side of the interconnect is connected to the floor, such that the rim provides a first angular displacement limit of the elongate body, and a pair of fine mechanical alignment portions including a notch defined in one of the pocket and elongate body and a key closely mating with the notch defined in the other of the pocket and elongate body such that the notch provides a second angular displacement limit of the elongate body; one of the male side and the female side of the coaxial interconnect selected for connection to the selected coarse mechanical alignment portion; an electrical signal connector having a central signal conductor and a surrounding shield conductor connected to the selected coarse mechanical alignment portion and electrically coupled to the respective central signal conductor and surrounding shield conductor of the selected side of the coaxial interconnect; and a latch facility having a pair of latches positioned on opposite sides of the pocket, such that a symmetrical biasing force is provided.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 12 including a separate electronic data interconnect portion connected to the pocket mechanical alignment portion selected from a pair of electronic data interconnect portions comprising compliant contacts and fixed surface contacts.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 13 wherein the compliant contacts include movable spring biased contacts.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 13 wherein the movable spring biased contacts are pogo pins.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the interconnect is a blind mating interconnect.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the electrical signal connector is a BNC connector selected from a male connector and a female connector.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the electrical signal connector is a SMA connector selected from a male connector and a female connector.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 12 wherein the electrical signal connector is a N type connector selected from a male connector and a female connector.
