Claims
- 1. An universal connector system used in conjunction with a cable having a multiplicity of wires, comprising:
- a. a common connector frame, an insert member, a gear belt, a pin assembly, an elongated rigid connector shell, an elongated flexible strain relief, and a first and a second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms;
- b. said common connector frame having a transverse plate, a wide opening and a narrow opening with a flange projecting inwardly;
- c. said insert member press-fitted through said wide opening of said common connector frame to form an electronic connector such that said flange of said common connector frame prevents said insert member from longitudinal movement;
- d. said pin assembly having a male half with a multiplicity of male pins and a female half with a multiplicity of female socket pins, where said electronic connector is assembled with either the multiplicity of male pins or the multiplicity of female socket pins such that a respective one of said pins is respectively connected to a respective one of said multiplicity of wires of said cable;
- e. said gear belt having an exterior surface and an interior surface, the exterior surface having a multiplicity of equally spaced apart longitudinal ribs;
- f. said connector shell having a first half and an identical second half, each half having a longitudinal slot with a front portion for housing said electronic connector and a rear portion for housing said strain relief, a transverse slot on a front end for receiving said transverse plate of said common connector frame, a first and second transverse slots on an extended rear end for receiving a first and second lateral ribs of said strain relief, a first lateral side and a second lateral side;
- g. means for interlocking said first and second halves of said connector shell together for receiving and partially enclosing said electronic connector and said strain relief;
- h. said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a spring, a reversible member and a base;
- i. said reversible members of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a first end with a male screw post and a second end with a female screw nut;
- j. said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a first end, a second end and a circumferential sidewall with a multiplicity of equally spaced apart longitudinal ribs for engaging with said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs on said exterior surface of said gear belt such that said gear belt can drive said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms simultaneously, the first end of each said base having an opening for accommodating said springs and said reversible members, and the second end of each said base having a cross shaped slot for accommodating a driving tool;
- k. means for retaining said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms to said first and second lateral sides of said connector shell respectively;
- l. said elongated flexible strain relief having a first half and an identical second half, each half having a front end, a rear end, a longitudinal channel with different cross-sectional dimensions and said lateral ribs acting to prevent said strain relief from longitudinal movement within said connector shell; and
- m. means for interlocking said first and second halves of said elongated flexible strain relief together to form an internal channel with different internal diameter for securely retaining said cable such that said two halves of said strain relief engage against opposite sides of said cable for relieving any strain transmitted on said cable;
- n. whereby prior to snapping together said two halves of said connector shell, said electronic connector is placed in said longitudinal slot at said front portion of said first half of said connector shell and said transverse plate of said common connector frame is retained in said transverse slot of said front end of said first half of said connector shell, and said strain relief is placed in said longitudinal slot at said rear portion of said first half of said connector shell and said two lateral ribs of said strain relief is retained in said two transverse slots of said extended rear end of said first half of said connector shell, said springs and said reversible members are respectively placed in said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms, said connector shell is snapped together to retain said electronic connector and said strain relief, and said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs of said gear belt engage with said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs of said circumferential sidewalls of said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms, thereby allowing said bases to rotate simultaneously.
- 2. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said means for interlocking said first and second halves of said connector shell include two male fastener posts and two female fastener recesses located alternatively on each lateral side of said first and second halves of said connector shell, the two male fastener posts on one lateral side are off-set with the two female fastener recesses on the opposite lateral side, so that the male fastener posts and the female fastener recesses on said first half are complementary to those on said second half of said connector shell.
- 3. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said means for interlocking said first and second halves of said connector shell include one central male fastener post and one central female fastener recess located adjacent to said extended rear ends of said connector shell.
- 4. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said means for interlocking said first and second halves of said strain relief include one male fastener post and one female fastener recess on each lateral side of said strain relief, so that the male fastener posts on said first half are complementary to the female fastener recesses on said second half of said strain relief.
- 5. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said insert member is a 9-pin male plug.
- 6. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said insert member is a 9-pin female socket.
- 7. The invention as defined in claim 6 wherein said insert member of said 9-pin female socket is longer than said insert member of said 9-pin male plug.
- 8. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said means for retaining said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms include closed adapting members located at a location adjacent to said front end of said connector shell and partially open adapting members located at a location adjacent to a midsection of said connector shell, the adapting members are respectively integrally molded to said first and second lateral sides of said connector shell.
- 9. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said insert member, said connector shell and said strain relief are manufactured by injection molding process.
- 10. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said insert member and said connector shell are made of plastic material.
- 11. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said strain relief and said gear belt are made of synthetic rubber material.
- 12. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms are made of poly carbon material.
- 13. An universal connector system used in conjunction with an adapter having a multiplicity of wires, comprising:
- a. a common connector frame having a transverse plate, a wide opening and a narrow opening with a flange projecting inwardly;
- b. an insert member press-fitted through said wide opening of said common connector frame to form an electronic connector such that said flange of said common connector frame prevents said insert member from longitudinal movement;
- c. a pin assembly having a male half with a multiplicity of male pins and a female half with a multiplicity of female socket pins, where said electronic connector is assembled with either the multiplicity of male pins or the multiplicity of female socket pins such that a respective one of said pins is respectively connected to a respective one of said multiplicity of wires of said adapter;
- d. a gear belt having an exterior surface and an interior surface, the exterior surface having a multiplicity of equally spaced apart longitudinal ribs;
- e. a connector shell having a first half and an identical second half, each half having a longitudinal slot with a front portion for housing said electronic connector and a rear portion for housing said strain relief, a transverse slot on a front end for receiving said transverse plate of said common connector frame, a first and second transverse slots on an extended rear end for receiving a first and second lateral ribs of said strain relief, a first lateral side and a second lateral side;
- f. means for interlocking said first and second halves of said connector shell together for receiving and partially enclosing said electronic connector and said adapter;
- g. a first and a second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a spring, a reversible member and a base;
- h. said reversible members of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a first end with a male screw post and a second end with a female screw nut;
- i. said bases of said first and a second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a first end, a second end and a circumferential sidewall with a multiplicity of equally spaced apart longitudinal ribs for engaging with said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs on said exterior surface of said gear belt such that said gear belt can drive said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms simultaneously, the first end of each said base having an opening for accommodating said springs and said reversible members, and the second end of each said base having a cross shaped slot for accommodating a driving tool; and
- j. means for retaining said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms to said first and second lateral sides of said connector shell respectively;
- k. whereby prior to snapping together said two halves of said connector shell, said electronic connector is placed in said longitudinal slot at said front portion of said first half of said connector shell and said transverse plate of said common connector frame is retained in said transverse slot of said front end of said first half of said connector shell, and said adapter is placed in said longitudinal slot at said rear portion of said first half of said connector shell and said adapter is retained in said two transverse slots of said extended rear end of said first half of said connector shell, said springs and said reversible members are respectively placed in said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms, said connector shell is snapped together to retain said electronic connector and said adapter, and said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs of said gear belt engage with said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs of said circumferential sidewalls of said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms, thereby allowing said bases to rotate simultaneously.
- 14. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said means for interlocking said first and second halves of said connector shell include two male fastener posts and two female fastener recesses located alternatively on each lateral side of said first and second halves of said connector shell, the two male fastener posts on one lateral side are off-set with the two female fastener recesses on the opposite lateral side, so that the male fastener posts and the female fastener recesses on said first half are complementary to those on said second half of said connector shell.
- 15. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said means for interlocking said first and second halves of said connector shell include one central male fastener post and one central female fastener recess located adjacent to said extended rear ends of said connector shell.
- 16. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said insert member is a 9-pin male plug.
- 17. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said insert member is a 9-pin female socket.
- 18. The invention as defined in claim 17 wherein said insert member of said 9-pin female socket is longer than said insert member of said 9-pin male plug.
- 19. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said means for retaining said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms include closed adapting members located at a location adjacent to said front end of said connector shell and partially open adapting members located at a location adjacent to a midsection of said connector shell, the adapting members are respectively integrally molded to said first and second lateral sides of said connector shell.
- 20. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said insert member, said connector shell and adapter are manufactured by injection molding process.
- 21. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said insert member and said connector shell are made of plastic material.
- 22. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said gear belt is made of rubber material.
- 23. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms are made of poly carbon material.
- 24. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said adapter is a strain relief.
- 25. The invention as defined in claim 13 wherein said adapter is a radio jack.
- 26. A connector system used in conjunction with an adapter having a multiplicity of wires, comprising:
- a. a frame having a transverse plate, a first opening and a second opening;
- b. an insert member press-fitted through said first opening of said frame to form a connector;
- c. a pin assembly having a male portion with a multiplicity of male pins and a female portion with a multiplicity of female socket pins, where said connector is assembled with either the multiplicity of male pins or the multiplicity of female socket pins such that a respective one of said pins is respectively connected to a respective one of said multiplicity of wires of said adapter;
- d. a gear belt having an exterior surface and an interior surface;
- e. a connector shell having two identical halves, each half having a longitudinal slot with a front portion for housing said connector, and a rear portion for housing said adapter, a transverse slot on a front end for receiving said transverse plate of said frame, two transverse slots on an extended rear end for receiving said adapter, and two lateral sides;
- f. means for interlocking said two identical halves of said connector shell together for receiving and partially enclosing said connector and said adapter;
- g. two unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a spring, a reversible member with a male screw post at one end and a female screw nut at an opposite end, and a base with an opening at one end for accommodating the spring and the reversible member, and a cross shaped slot at an opposite end for accommodating a driving tool; and
- h. means for retaining said two unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms to said two lateral sides of said connector shell;
- i. whereby prior to snapping together said two halves of said connector shell, said connector is placed in said longitudinal slots at said front portions of said connector shell and said transverse plate of said connector is retained in said transverse slots of said front ends of said connector shell, and said adapter is placed in said longitudinal slots at said rear portions of said connector shell and said adapter is retained in said two transverse slots of said extended rear end of said connector shell, said springs and said reversible members are respectively placed in said bases of said two unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms, said connector shell is snapped together to retain said connector and said adapter, where said gear belt engages with said bases of said two unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms, thereby allowing said bases to rotate simultaneously.
- 27. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said means for interlocking said two identical halves of said connector shell include two male fastener posts and two female fastener recesses, the two male fastener posts on one lateral side are off-set with the two female fastener recesses on the opposite lateral side.
- 28. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said means for interlocking said two identical halves of said connector shell include one central male fastener post and one central female fastener recess.
- 29. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said insert member is a male 9-pin plug.
- 30. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said insert member is a female 9-pin socket.
- 31. The invention as defined in claim 30 wherein said insert member of said female 9-pin socket is longer than said insert member of said male 9-pin socket.
- 32. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said means for retaining said two unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms include closed adapting members and partially open adapting members, the adapting members are respectively integrally molded to said two lateral sides of said connector shell.
- 33. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said adapter is a strain relief.
- 34. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said adapter is a radio jack.
- 35. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said connector shell and said adapter are manufactured by injection molding process.
- 36. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said insert member and said connector shell are made of plastic material.
- 37. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said two unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms are made of poly carbon material.
- 38. The invention as defined in claim 26 wherein said exterior surface of said gear belt includes a multiplicity of longitudinal ribs equally spaced apart for engaging with said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms.
- 39. A method of forming a male or a female connector from a kit of unisex hardware and used in conjunction with an adapter having a multiplicity of wires, the method comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a common connector frame having a transverse plate, a wide opening and a narrow opening with a flange projecting inwardly;
- b. inserting an insert member press-fitted through said wide opening of said common connector frame to form an electronic connector such that said flange of said common connector frame prevents said insert member from longitudinal movement;
- c. crimping a pin assembly having a male half with a multiplicity of male pins and a female half with a multiplicity of female socket pins, where said electronic connector is assembled with either the multiplicity of male pins or the multiplicity of female socket pins such that a respective one of said pins is respectively connected to a respective one of said multiplicity of wires of said adapter;
- d. providing a gear belt having an exterior surface and an interior surface, the exterior surface having a multiplicity of equally spaced apart longitudinal ribs;
- e. providing a connector shell having a first half and an identical second half, each half having a longitudinal slot with a front portion for housing said electronic connector and a rear portion for housing said strain relief, a transverse slot on a front end for receiving said transverse plate of said common connector frame, a first and second transverse slots on an extended rear end for receiving a first and second lateral ribs of said strain relief, a first lateral side and a second lateral side;
- f. interlocking said first and second halves of said connector shell together for receiving and partially enclosing said electronic connector and said adapter;
- g. providing a first and a second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a spring, a reversible member and a base;
- h. changing said reversible members of said first and a second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a first end with a male screw post and a second end with a female screw nut;
- i. driving said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms each having a first end, a second end and a circumferential sidewall with a multiplicity of equally spaced apart longitudinal ribs for engaging with said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs on said exterior surface of said gear belt such that said gear belt can drive said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms simultaneously, the first end of each said base having an opening for accommodating said springs and said reversible members, and the second end of each said base having a cross shaped slot for accommodating a driving tool; and
- j. retaining said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms to said first and second lateral sides of said connector shell respectively;
- k. whereby prior to snapping together said two halves of said connector shell, said insert member is inserted into said common connector frame which forms a male connector or a female connector, said electronic connector is placed in said longitudinal slot at said front portion of said first half of said connector shell and said transverse plate of said common connector frame is retained in said transverse slot of said front end of said first half of said connector shell, and said adapter is placed in said longitudinal slot at said rear portion of said first half of said connector shell and said adapter is retained in said two transverse slots of said extended rear end of said first half of said connector shell, said springs and said reversible members are respectively placed in said bases of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms which show either said male screw posts or said female screw nuts, said connector shell is snapped together to retain said electronic connector and said adapter, and said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs of said gear belt engage with said multiplicity of longitudinal ribs of said circumferential sidewalls of said base of said first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms, thereby allowing said bases to rotate simultaneously.
- 40. The invention as defined in claim 39 wherein said interlocking said first and second halves of said connector shell include two male fastener posts and two female fastener recesses located alternatively on each lateral side of said first and second halves of said connector shell, the two male fastener posts on one lateral side are off-set with the two female fastener recesses on the opposite lateral side, so that the male fastener posts and the female fastener recesses on said first half are complementary to those on said second half of said connector shell.
- 41. The invention as defined in claim 39 wherein said interlocking first and second halves of said connector shell include one central male fastener post and one central female fastener recess located adjacent to said extended rear ends of said connector shell.
- 42. The invention as defined in claim 39 wherein said insert member is a 9-pin male plug.
- 43. The invention as defined in claim 39 wherein said insert member is a 9-pin female socket.
- 44. The invention as defined in claim 43 wherein said insert member of said 9-pin female socket is longer than said insert member of said 9-pin male plug.
- 45. The invention as defined in claim 39 wherein said retaining first and second unisex spring-loaded turn wheel mechanisms include closed adapting members located at a location adjacent to said front end of said connector shell and partially open adapting members located at a location adjacent to a midsection of said connector shell, the adapting members are respectively integrally molded to said first and second lateral sides of said connector shell.
- 46. The invention as defined in claim 39 wherein said adapter is a strain relief.
- 47. The invention as defined in claim 39 wherein said adapter is a radio jack.
