Claims
- 1. A method for generating a pattern of bits to correlate with a received signal in a spread spectrum system comprising the steps of:storing sample Sn of the received signal where n is the sample number and where there are N samples in each data bit time; combining samples which include at least Sn and Sn+N to provide each bit of an N bit pattern; and correlating the N bit pattern with the received signal.
- 2. The method defined by claim 1 wherein at least Sn, Sn+N and Sn+2N are combined to provide each bit of the N bit pattern.
- 3. The method defined by claim 1 wherein some samples are weighted more heavily than others in the combining step.
- 4. The method defined by claim 1 wherein the combining step results in a binary 1 or a binary 0 for each bit of the N bit pattern.
- 5. A method for compensating for power line distortion in a spread spectrum system comprising:transmitting a signal over a power line using a spread spectrum which signal includes data bits; forming a reference pattern for the detection of the data bits using the transmitted signal after the signal has been subjected to distortion on the power line by combining corresponding samples from a plurality of consecutive periods to form the reference pattern; and; correlating the reference pattern with the signal after the transmission of the signal over the power line to detect the data bits.
- 6. The method defined by claim 5, wherein the corresponding samples from consecutive periods that are combined are weighted based on the period to which they belong.
- 7. The method defined by claim 5, wherein the reference pattern is used, at least in part, along with a fixed pattern for detecting the data bits.
