Claims
- 1. An additive for pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product comprising:
a) a pharmaceutically or cosmetically-acceptable solvent; and b) an oligoester including at least two structural units, each structural unit having a diol fragment and a diacid fragment attached to one another by an ester linkage, at least one of said fragments containing a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom; said structural units defining a backbone extending through said ester linkages and said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms, said oligoester being present in the amount of from about 0.01% to 99.0% by weight of said additive.
- 2. The additive of claim 1, wherein said oligoester is present in an amount of between about 5 and about 95% by weight.
- 3. The additive of claim 2, wherein said oligoester is present in an amount of between about 20 and about 95% by weight.
- 4. The additive of claim 1, wherein said oligoester includes between about 2 and about 100 structural units.
- 5. The additive of claim 4, wherein said oligoester includes between about 2 and about 50 structural units.
- 6. The additive of claim 5, wherein said oligoester includes between about 3 and about 25 structural units.
- 7. The additive of claim 1, further comprising at least one additional diol fragment or diacid fragment, bound to one of the structural units through an ester linkage.
- 8. The additive of claim 1, further comprising at least a third structural unit.
- 9. The additive of claim 1, wherein said oligoester has a molecular weight of about 100,000 or less.
- 10. The additive of claim 9, wherein said oligoester has a molecular weight of about 50,000 or less.
- 11. The additive of claim 10, wherein said oligoester has a molecular weight of about 25,000 or less.
- 12. The additive of claim 1, wherein said at least one of said fragments containing a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom is said diol fragment.
- 13. The additive of claim 12, wherein said each of said diol fragments includes a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom.
- 14. The additive of claim 12, wherein said at least 10% of said diol fragments includes a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom.
- 15. The additive of claim 1, wherein at least one of said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms is substituted with one or more groups including hydrogen, a halogen an alkyl, alkylene or alkoxy group having 1 to 60 carbon atoms which may be saturated or unsaturated, straight chain or branched, substituted or unsubstituted, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic having 6 to 40 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted cyclic alkane having 4 to 35 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkyl, alkylaryl acetoxy, alkylacetoxy, arylacetoxy, carboxy, alkylcarboxy, hydroxy, or alkoxyhydroxy group of 2 to 40 carbon atoms, amine oxides, siloxanes, and delta-gluconolactone derivates.
- 16. The additive of claim 1, wherein said at least one of said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms is substituted with a UV-active moiety.
- 17. The additive of claim 16, wherein said UV-active moiety UV-active moiety is derived from a UV-absorbing compound selected from the group consisting of cinnammic acid, para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), benzophenone-1, benzophenone-2, benzophenone-3, benzophenone-4, benzophenone-6, benzophenone-8, benzophenone-12, methoxycinnamate, ethyl dihydroxypropyl-PABA, glyceryl PABA, homosalate, methyl anthranilate, octocrylene, octyl dimethyl PABA, octyl methoxycinnamate, octyl salicylate, PABA, 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulphonic acid, triethanolamine salicylate, 3-(4-methylbenzylidene)-camphor, avobenzone, and 2,6-dicarboxynaphtalenic acid.
- 18. The additive of claim 1, further comprising at least one alkoxy group bound to, and forming part of at least one of said diol fragments.
- 19. The additive of claim 18, wherein said alkoxy group is bound between at least one of said diol fragments and at least one of said diacid fragments.
- 20. The additive of claim 18 further comprising a plurality of alkoxy fragments such that each of said diol fragments are bound to two alkoxy fragments and each diol fragment bound to a diacid fragment is bound through an ester linkage formed between an alkoxy group and a diacid fragment.
- 21. The additive of claim 1 further comprising at least one end cap bound to a hydroxy or carboxy terminus of said oligoester.
- 22. The additive of claim 21 further comprising two end caps bound to each hydroxy or carboxy terminus of said oligoester.
- 23. The additive of claim 21 wherein said end cap is H, OH, R6, OR6 or R7 and wherein R6 and R7 are independently a hydrophobic group which is a substituted or unsubstituted fatty alcohol or and fatty acids having between 4 and 36 carbons R1, a diglyceride having fatty acid groups of as many as 36 carbons, fatty acid or alcohol derivatives of pentaerythritol or may have the following structure, where R1, R2, R3, n and p are as previously defined:
- 24. The additive of claim 23 wherein said end cap is a 12-hydroxystearate or a polyricinoleate.
- 25. The additive in accordance with claim 1 wherein said solvents are selected from the group consisting of alcohols, glycols, fatty acids and mixtures thereof.
- 26. A pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product comprising: a pharmaceutically or cosmetically-acceptable solvent; an oligoester including at least two structural units, each structural unit having a diol fragment and a diacid fragment attached to one another by an ester linkage, at least one of said fragments containing a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom, said structural units defining a backbone extending through said ester linkages and said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms, said oligoester being present in the amount of from about 0.01% to 99.0% by weight based on the combine weight of said oligoester and said solvent; and at least one active or additional ingredient, provided in an amount which is effective for its intended use.
- 27. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26 is provided in the form of a lotion, gel, spray, cream and the like, hand cleaner, bath composition, suntan oil, antiperspirant composition, perfume, cologne, cold cream, pre-shave, deodorant, treated powder, nose spray, bandage, transdermal drug applicator skin moisturizer, facial cleanser, cleansing cream, skin gel, shampoo, hair conditioner rinse, cream rinse, detergent, make-up product, permanent waving product, lipstick, mascara, blush, foundation, rouge, mousse, spray, styling gel, nail polish, nail conditioner, dye or hair coloring product.
- 28. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, wherein said oligoester is present in an amount of between about 5 and about 95% by weight based on the combined weight of said oligoester and said solvent.
- 29. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 28, wherein said oligoester is present in an amount of between about 20 and about 95% by weight based on the combine weight of said oligoester and said solvent.
- 30. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, wherein said oligoester includes between about 2 and about 100 structural units.
- 31. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 30, wherein said oligoester includes between about 2 and about 50 structural units.
- 32. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 31, wherein said oligoester includes between about 3 and about 25 structural units.
- 33. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, further comprising at least one additional diol fragment or diacid fragment, bound to one of the structural units through an ester linkage.
- 34. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, further comprising at least a third structural unit.
- 35. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, wherein said oligoester has a molecular weight of about 100,000 or less.
- 36. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, wherein said at least one of said fragments containing a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom is said diol fragment.
- 37. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 36, wherein said at least 10% of said diol fragments includes a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom.
- 38. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, wherein at least one of said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms is substituted with one or more groups including hydrogen, a halogen an alkyl, alkylene or alkoxy group having 1 to 60 carbon atoms which may be saturated or unsaturated, straight chain or branched, substituted or unsubstituted, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic having 6 to 40 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted cyclic alkane having 4 to 35 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkyl, alkylaryl acetoxy, alkylacetoxy, arylacetoxy, carboxy, alkylcarboxy, hydroxy, or alkoxyhydroxy group of 2 to 40 carbon atoms, amine oxides, siloxanes, and delta-gluconolactone derivates.
- 39. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, wherein said at least one of said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms is substituted with a UV-active moiety.
- 40. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 39, wherein said UV-active moiety is derived from a UV-absorbing compound selected from the group consisting of cinnammic acid, para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), dimethyl PABA, benzophenone-1, benzophenone-2, benzophenone-3, benzophenone-4, benzophenone-6, benzophenone-8, benzophenone-12, methoxycinnamate, ethyl dihydroxypropyl-PABA, glyceryl PABA, homosalate, methyl anthranilate, octocrylene, octyl dimethyl PABA, octyl methoxycinnamate, octyl salicylate, PABA, 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulphonic acid, triethanolamine salicylate, 3-(4-methylbenzylidene)-camphor, avobenzone, and 2,6-dicarboxynaphtalenic acid.
- 41. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, further comprising at least one alkoxy group bound to, and forming part of at least one of said diol fragments.
- 42. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 41 further comprising a plurality of alkoxy fragments such that each of said diol fragments of includes is bound to two alkoxy fragments and each diol fragment bound to a diacid fragment is bound through an ester linkage formed between an alkoxy group and a diacid fragment.
- 43. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 41 wherein the pH of said pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product ranges from about 4 to about 9.
- 44. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26 further comprising at least one end cap bound to a hydroxy or carboxy terminus of said oligoester.
- 45. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 44 further comprising two end caps bound to each hydroxy or carboxy terminus of said oligoester.
- 46. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic or personal care product of claim 26, wherein said at least one active or additional ingredients, provided in an amount which is effective for its intended use include pharmaceutically active compounds, UV-absorbers, fragrances, pigments, dyes, hair or skin conditioners, cleaning agents, hair styling agents, antidandruff agents, hair growth promoters, perfumes, sunscreen compounds, pigments, moisturizers, film formers, humectants, alpha-hydroxy acids, hair colors, make-up agents, detergents, thickening agents, emulsifiers, antiseptic agents, deodorant actives, surfactants, agents which enhance permeation into or through the skin, emollients, emulsifiers, humectants, softeners, lubricants, penetrants, plasticizers, dispersants, thickening agents, preservatives, buffers, chelating agents, foaming agents, coupling agents, proteins, salts, and oils all provided in conventional and/or approved amounts.
- 47. An oligoester: comprising, at least two structural units, each structural unit having a diol fragment and a diacid fragment attached to one another by an ester linkage, at least one of said fragments containing a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom; said structural units defining a backbone extending through said ester linkages and said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms.
- 48. The oligoester of claim 47, further comprising between about 2 and about 100 structural units.
- 49. The oligoester of claim 48, having between about 2 and about 50 structural units.
- 50. The oligoester of claim 49, having between about 3 and about 25 structural units.
- 51. The oligoester of claim 47, further comprising at least one additional diol fragment or diacid fragment, bound to one of the structural units through an ester linkage.
- 52. The oligoester of claim 47, further comprising at least a third structural unit.
- 53. The oligoester of claim 47, having a weight average molecular weight of about 100,000 or less.
- 54. The oligoester of claim 53, having a weight average molecular weight of about 50,000 or less.
- 55. The oligoester of claim 54, having a weight average molecular weight of about 25,000 or less.
- 56. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein said at least one of said fragments containing a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom is said diol fragment.
- 57. The oligoester of claim 56, wherein each of said diol fragments includes a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom.
- 58. The oligoester of claim 56, wherein at least 10% of said diol fragments includes a tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atom.
- 59. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein at least one of said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms is substituted with one or more groups including hydrogen, a halogen an alkyl, alkylene or alkoxy group having 1 to 60 carbon atoms which may be saturated or unsaturated, straight chain or branched, substituted or unsubstituted, a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic having 6 to 40 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted cyclic alkane having 4 to 35 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkyl, alkylaryl acetoxy, alkylacetoxy, arylacetoxy, carboxy, alkylcarboxy, hydroxy, or alkoxyhydroxy group of 2 to 40 carbon atoms, amine oxides, siloxanes, and delta-gluconolactone derivates.
- 60. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein said at least one of said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms is substituted with a UV-active moiety.
- 61. The oligoester of claim 60, wherein said UV-active moiety UV-active moiety is derived from a UV-absorbing compound selected from the group consisting of cinnammic acid, para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), benzophenone-1, benzophenone-2, benzophenone-3, benzophenone-4, benzophenone-6, benzophenone-8, benzophenone-12, methoxycinnamate, ethyl dihydroxypropyl-PABA, glyceryl PABA, homosalate, methyl anthranilate, octocrylene, octyl dimethyl PABA, octyl methoxycinnamate, octyl salicylate, PABA, 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulphonic acid, triethanolamine salicylate, 3-(4-methylbenzylidene)-camphor, avobenzone, and 2,6-dicarboxynaphtalenic acid.
- 62. The oligoester of claim 47, further comprising at least one alkoxy group bound to, and forming part of at least one of said diol fragments.
- 63. The oligoester of claim 62, wherein said alkoxy group is bound between at least one of said diol fragments and at least one of said diacid fragments.
- 64. The oligoester of claim 62 further comprising a plurality of alkoxy fragments such that each of said diol fragments is bound to two alkoxy fragments and each diol fragment bound to a diacid fragment is bound through an ester linkage formed between an alkoxy group and a diacid fragment.
- 65. The oligoester of claim 47 further comprising at least one end cap bound to a hydroxy or carboxy terminus of said oligoester.
- 66. The oligoester of claim 65 further comprising two end caps bound to each hydroxy or carboxy terminus of said oligoester.
- 67. The oligoester of claim 65 wherein said end cap is H, OH, R6, OR6 or R7 and wherein R6 and R7 are independently a hydrophobic group which is a substituted or unsubstituted fatty alcohol or and fatty acids having between 4 and 36 carbons R1, a diglyceride having fatty acid groups of an many as 36 carbons fatty acid or alcohol derivatives of pentaerythritol or may have the following structure, where R1, R2, R3, n and p are as previously defined:
- 68. The oligoester of claim 67 wherein said end cap is a 12-hydroxystearate or a polyricinoleate.
- 69. The oligoester of claim 65, wherein said hydrophobic moiety is selected from the group consisting of C10-C300 alkyl, polyricircinoleate, and 12-hydroxystearate
- 70. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein at least some of said diol fragments are structurally different from one another.
- 71. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein at least some of said diacid fragments are structurally different from one another.
- 72. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein said tertiary or quaternary nitrogen atoms are disposed within the diacid fragments of said structural unit.
- 73. The oligoester of claim 47, produced from condensation of diacids or a reactive derivative thereof with N-diols.
- 74. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein said diacid is selected from the group consisting of adipic, Azeliec acid, Malonic acid, Pimelic acid, Sebacic acid, Suberic acid, Succinic acid, Phthalic acid and C36 dimer acid (cas# 61788-89-4).
- 75. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein said N-diol is selected fro the group consisting of N-methyl-N,N-diethanol, N-ethyl-N,N-diethanol, N-methyl-N,N-dimethanol, Neopentyl Glycol, Bisphenols, Resorcinol, Methyl Diethanolamine, Benzyl Diethanolamine, Lauryl Diethanolamine, Cetyl Diethanolamine, Stearyl Diethanolamine, Erucyl Diethanolamine and Behenyl Diethanolamine.
- 76. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein said nitrogen atom is a quaternary nitrogen atom produced by N-alkylation of a tertiary nitrogen atom.
- 77. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein said structural unit of said at least one oligoester has the structure of formula I or II:
- 78. The oligoester of claim 47, wherein at least one diol fragment includes a hetero atom other than nitrogen.
- 79. The oligoester of claim 48, wherein at least one diol fragment includes a hetero atom other than nitrogen.
