- 2. The abrading tool of claim 1 wherein said means for retaining an abrasive material comprises:
a lock cap, having an opening disposed about said threaded rod, said lock cap having an inside surface dimensioned to mate with and proximate to an outside surface of said abrasive material; and a compressible locking member disposed about said threaded rod, proximate to an inside surface of said abrasive material.
- 3. The abrading tool of claim 2 further comprising a lock knob having a threaded opening to mate with the threaded rod and an engagement surface dimensioned to engage a mating surface of said lock cap.
- 4. The abrading tool of claim 3 wherein said lock cap is unthreaded, and wherein said lock knob is rotatably attached to said lock cap such that said lock cap will not rotate substantially when said lock knob is threaded onto said threaded rod lock.
- 5. The abrading tool of claim 1 wherein said expandable support is an elastic drum dimensioned to form a substantially hollow cylinder having a first end, a second end, an inner surface and an outer surface.
- 6. The abrading tool of claim 5 wherein said means for expanding said expandable support comprises an inner spacer and an outer spacer, wherein said inner spacer and said outer spacer are disposed about opposite ends of said elastic drum, wherein each of said inner spacer and outer spacer is dimensioned to contact said elastic drum such that axial movement of said outer spacer toward said inner spacer causes said outer surface of said elastic drum to expand.
- 7. The abrading tool of claim 6 further comprising an adjusting knob, said adjusting knob being threaded to mate with said drive rod and threaded onto said drive rod in communication with said outer spacer such that radial rotation of said adjusting knob moves said outer spacer axially.
- 8. The abrading tool of claim 7 further comprising means for setting a diameter of said expandable support;
wherein said adjusting knob comprises an inner bore, and wherein said means for setting said diameter of said expandable support comprises a sleeve attached to said threaded drive rod, said sleeve having an outer surface dimensioned to fit within said inner bore of said adjusting knob and comprising a plurality of marks disposed incrementally along said outer surface in positions corresponding to a plurality of diameters of said expandable support.
- 9. The abrading tool of claim 1 wherein said expandable support is a substantially resilient cylinder having a first end, a second end and a side wall having a plurality of axial cuts therethrough such that said side wall may be forced outward.
- 10. The abrading tool of claim 9 wherein said first end of said expandable support is threaded to mate with said drive rod, and wherein said second end is open therethrough such that said side wall may be forced outward to form a substantially conical surface.
- 11. The abrading tool of claim 10 wherein said means for expanding comprises a conically shaped outer spacer dimensioned to engage said open end of said expandable support such that moving said outer spacer toward said closed end of said expandable support engages causes a diameter of said open end to increase.
- 12. The abrading tool of claim 11 further comprising an adjusting knob and a means for setting an angle formed by said expandable support;
wherein said adjusting knob comprises an inner bore and is threaded to mate with said drive rod and threaded onto said drive rod in communication with said outer spacer such that radial rotation of said adjusting knob moves said outer spacer axially; and wherein said means for setting said angle formed by said expandable support comprises a sleeve attached to said threaded drive rod, said sleeve having an outer surface dimensioned to fit within said inner bore of said adjusting knob and comprising a plurality of marks disposed incrementally along said outer surface in positions corresponding to a plurality of angles of said expandable support.
- 13. The abrading tool of claim 1 wherein said expandable support comprises at least one compressible o-ring and at least two substantially rigid spacers, wherein said spacers and said o-ring are disposed about said threaded rod such that each of said at least one-ring is disposed between two spacers.
- 14. The abrading tool of claim 13 wherein each of said at least two spacers comprises at least one angled edge.
- 15. The abrading tool of claim 2 wherein said expandable support comprises at least one compressible o-ring and at least two substantially rigid spacers; wherein said spacers and said o-ring are disposed about said threaded rod such that each of said at least one-ring is disposed between two spacers; and wherein said compressible locking member comprises at least one o-ring.
- 16. The abrading tool of claim 13 further comprising an adjusting knob and a means for setting a diameter of said expandable support;
wherein said adjusting knob comprises an inner bore into which is mounted an o-ring in frictional communication with said drive rod and said inner bore, and is threaded to mate with said drive rod and thread onto said drive rod in communication with said outer spacer such that radial rotation of said adjusting knob moves said outer spacer axially; and wherein said means for setting said diameter formed by said expandable support comprises a sleeve attached to said threaded drive rod, said sleeve having an outer surface dimensioned to fit within said inner bore of said adjusting knob and comprising a plurality of marks disposed incrementally along said outer surface in positions corresponding to a plurality of diameters of said expandable support.
- 17. The abrading tool of claim 1 wherein said expandable support comprises at least a first o-ring, a second o-ring, a third o-ring and a tapered spacer; wherein said first o-ring has an inside diameter that is less than an inside diameter of said second o-ring, and wherein said third o-ring has an inside diameter that is greater than said inside diameter of said second o-ring; and wherein at least said second o-ring and said third o-ring are disposed upon said tapered spacer such that said inside diameter thereof is in contact with said tapered spacer.
- 18. The abrading tool of claim 17 further comprising an adjusting knob and a means for setting an angle of said expandable support;
wherein said adjusting knob comprises an inner bore into which is mounted an o-ring in frictional communication with said drive rod and said inner bore, and is threaded to mate with said drive rod and thread onto said drive rod in communication with said outer spacer such that radial rotation of said adjusting knob moves said outer spacer axially; and wherein said means for setting said diameter formed by said expandable support comprises a sleeve attached to said threaded drive rod, said sleeve having an outer surface dimensioned to fit within said inner bore of said adjusting knob and comprising a plurality of marks disposed incrementally along said outer surface in positions corresponding to a plurality of angles of said expandable support.
