The present disclosure relates to swaddle garments for infants.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends placing infants on their backs to sleep, because studies have shown that such position reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (“SIDS”). Wedges, loose pillows, and/or other devices may be used to position infants on their backs during sleep. However, wedges, loose pillows, and/or other devices placed into a crib to position an infant may become dislodged by the movement of the infant and thus become a safety hazard. Additionally, placement of such objects underneath infants may promote movement to undesirable positions where their stomachs are face-down.
Thus, there is a need for an infant swaddle garment that will position an infant in a crib and keep the infant resting on the infant's back during sleep.
In an example, the present disclosure provides a swaddle garment for an infant. The swaddle garment includes a torso section. The torso section includes a first arm opening and a second arm opening, each of the first and second arm openings configured to receive an arm of the infant through each of the first and second arm openings. The torso section further includes a seam including a first plurality of fasteners to reversibly close the torso section over a chest and a stomach of the infant. The torso section further includes a back section attached to a fitted sheet for a crib mattress. The swaddle garment further includes an adjustable leg section attached to the torso section configured to receive legs and feet of the infant. The leg section includes a second plurality of fasteners configured to optionally fold and stow a portion of the leg section, a length of the portion adjustable relative to a total length of the leg section.
In certain examples, the leg section may not be attached to the fitted sheet. In certain examples, the torso section may further include a first wing and a second wing, each of the first and second wings attached to the torso section behind each of the first and second arm openings, each of the first and second wings including a third fastener or a third plurality of fasteners to optionally secure the arm of the infant across the top of the torso section over the seam to optionally secure the wings to a top surface of the fitted sheet. In certain examples, the torso section may further include a constriction strap attached to an interior of the torso section to optionally constrict the chest and/or the arms of the infant. In certain examples, the back section may be attached to the fitted sheet by a sewn seam. In certain examples, the sewn seam may extend across the back section. In certain examples, the sewn seam may extend from the first arm opening to the second opening. In certain examples, the back section may be attached to the fitted sheet by a plurality of parallel sewn seams across the back section. In certain examples, the back section may be reversibly attached to the fitted sheet by a fourth plurality of fasteners.
In another example, the present disclosure provides a swaddle garment for an infant. The swaddle garment includes a torso section. The torso section includes a first arm opening and a second arm opening, each of the first and second arm openings configured to receive an arm of the infant through each of the first and second arm openings. The torso section further includes a seam including a plurality of fasteners to reversibly close the torso section over a chest and a stomach of the infant. The torso section further includes a back section attached to a fitted sheet for a crib mattress. The swaddle garment includes an adjustable leg section attached to the torso section to receive legs and feet of the infant. The fitted sheet includes a pocket for positioning under a head of an infant, the pocket configured to receive a pillow.
In certain examples, the pocket may include a pocket fastener to close the pocket. The leg section may not be attached to the fitted sheet. In certain examples, the torso section may further include a first wing and a second wing, each of the first and second wings attached to the torso section behind each of the first and second arm openings, each of the first and second wings including a third fastener or a third plurality of fasteners to optionally secure the arm of the infant across the top of the torso section over the seam and to optionally secure the wings to a top surface of the fitted sheet. In certain examples, the torso section may further include a constriction strap attached to an interior of the torso section to optionally constrict the chest and/or the arms of the infant. In certain examples, the back section may be attached to the fitted sheet by a sewn seam. The sewn seam may extend from the first arm opening to the second arm opening.
In yet another example, the present disclosure provides a swaddle garment for an infant. The torso section further includes a constriction strap attached to an interior of the torso section to optionally constrict the chest and/or the arms of the infant. The swaddle garment further includes an adjustable leg section attached to the torso section to receive legs and feet of the infant.
In certain examples, the torso section may include a plurality of constriction straps. The leg section may not be attached to the fitted sheet. The torso section may further include a first wing and a second wing, each of the first and second wings attached to the torso section behind each of the first and second arm openings, each of the first and second wings including a third fastener or a third plurality of fasteners to optionally secure the arm of the infant across the top of the torso section over the seam and to optionally secure the wings to a top surface of the fitted sheet.

In certain examples of swaddle garments of the present disclosure, the torso section of the swaddle garment may include an accessory pocket within reach of the infant's hands and accessible by the infant when the infant is in the swaddle garment. The swaddle garment may be used to store extra pacifiers such that the infant may easily independently store or obtain an additional pacifier during the night, or such that a caretaker who responds to the infant in a darkened room may more easily find a spare pacifier rather than searching on the floor around the crib.
In certain examples of swaddle garments of the present disclosure, one or more exterior portions of the exterior of the torso section of the swaddle garment may include a plush material that simulates a stuffed animal or other soft fabric, such that when the infant is in the swaddle garment, the infant can feel the one or more exterior portions including plush material, which may offer a soothing experience to the infant and help with the infant's ability to sleep restfully.
