Claims
- 1. A dispersion compensation apparatus comprising:
an interferometer configured to split at least a first incoming optical signal into at least first and second distinct paths and later recombine said first and second paths, outputting an output signal characterized by at least a first dispersion parameter; and wherein at least part of said interferometer is adjustable, for adjusting said dispersion parameter.
- 2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said dispersion parameter is dispersion magnitude.
- 3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said dispersion parameter is center wavelength.
- 4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said dispersion parameter is dispersion waveshape.
- 5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said part of said interferometer for adjusting dispersion parameters comprises at least one of a mirror and a resonator being adjustable to adjust at least a first path length.
- 6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 5 wherein adjustment of said path length adjusts a center position of said dispersion.
- 7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 5 wherein said adjustment of said path length adjusts the sign of said dispersion.
- 8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said part of said interferometer for adjusting said dispersion parameter comprises a beam diverter being rotatable to adjust an optical axis of said beam diverter.
- 9. Apparatus as claimed in claim 8 wherein adjustment of said optical axis of said beam diverter changes at least a first split-off ratio of said interferometer.
- 10. Apparatus as claimed in claim 9 wherein changing said split-off ratio changes a magnitude of said dispersion.
- 11. A method for compensating dispersion in an optical system comprising:
receiving an optical signal in an interferometer configured to split at least first incoming optical signal into at least first and second distinct paths; recombining said first and second paths outputting an optical signal characterized by at least a first dispersion parameter; adjusting at least part of said interferometer for adjusting said dispersion parameter.
- 12. A method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said step of adjusting at least a part of said interferometer comprises adjusting at least one of a slit-off ratio, a resonator mirror reflectivity and interferometer path length or a resonator path length.
- 13. A method as claimed in claim 11 wherein said dispersion parameter is at least one of a dispersion magnitude, a center wavelength and a dispersion slope.
- 14. A dispersion compensation apparatus comprising:
interferometer means for splitting at least a first incoming optical signal into at least first and second distinct paths and for later combining said first and second paths outputting an output signal characterized by at least a first dispersion parameter; and means for adjusting at least a part of said interferometer, to adjust said dispersion parameter.

The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for compensating chromatic dispersion and, in particular, methods and apparatus providing for selection and/or adjustment of compensation parameters such as center wavelength, dispersion slope or waveshape and/or dispersion magnitude.
