Abstract
The present invention provides an adjustable container for instant food, the adjustable container comprising: a floor; a peripheral wall extending upwardly from the floor, terminating at an upper opening, and defining interior volume, the peripheral wall having a first unfoldable part formed along at least two first fold lines, a sheet-type lid covering the upper opening, and wherein the adjustable container has at least two states: a first state that the first unfoldable part is folded and the adjustable container has a first interior volume, and a second state that the first unfoldable part is unfolded and the adjustable container has a second interior volume larger than the first interior volume.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention pertains generally to the field of container, and more particularly to container for food.


BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Instant food such as cup ramen can be consumed instantly by adding hot water into its container. However, due to this capacity of hot water, the container should have a capacity larger than actual size of the contents such as dry ramen and condiment which are included in the package of the instant food. A large volume of the container causes difficulties in handling and a high cost for storage and transportation.


SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention provides an adjustable container comprising a folded wall in the peripheral wall and reducing the size of the container by minimizing the empty space of the interior volume. Accordingly, this small-sized container can be convenient to handle and provide low cost for distribution. Also, because only small area of the container is revealed outside and printing material or packing material is saved, manufacturing cost can be reduced. Furthermore, various kinds of instant food in each container can be packed together in one pack.


Embodiments of the inventive concept provide a container comprising a floor; a peripheral wall extending upwardly from the floor, terminating at an upper opening, and defining interior volume, the peripheral wall having a first unfoldable part formed along at least two first fold lines, a sheet-type lid covering the upper opening, and wherein the adjustable container has at least two states: a first state that the first unfoldable part is folded and the adjustable container has a first interior volume, and a second state that the first unfoldable part is unfolded and the adjustable container has a second interior volume larger than the first interior volume.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTIONS

Reference will now be made in detail to the preferred embodiments of the present invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this disclosure. It is to be understood that this invention is not limited to the specific devices, methods, conditions or parameters described and/or shown herein, and that the terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments by way of example only and is not intended to be limiting of the claimed invention.


Also, as used in the specification including the appended claims, the singular forms “a”, “an”, and “the” include the plural, and reference to a particular numerical value includes at least that particular value, unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Ranges may be expressed herein as form “about” or “approximately” one particular value and/or to “about” or “approximately” another particular value. When such a range is expressed, another embodiment includes from the one particular value and/or to the other particular value. According to FIGS. 1A to 1C, an adjustable container 100 comprises a floor 101, a peripheral wall 103, and a sheet-type lid 105.


The peripheral wall 103 extends upwardly from the floor 101 and terminates at an upper opening OPN. The peripheral wall 103 defines interior volume of the adjustable container 100. A structure of the floor 101 and the peripheral wall 103 may be a cup shape but is not limited to. In other embodiments of the present invention, a shape defined by the peripheral wall 101 may be various; for example, the shape may be square, triangle, rectangular, circle, oval, polygon, and the like.


The peripheral wall 103 comprises upper part 103U, an unfoldable part 103M, and lower part 103L. Each part can be divided by a first fold line 103FL1 and a second fold line 103FL2. The first and second fold lines 103FL1 and 103FL2 are formed along circumference of the peripheral wall 103. The upper part 103U is located above the first fold line 103FL1 and contacts the sheet-type-lid 105. The lower part 103L is located below the second fold line 103FL2 and contacts the floor 101. The unfoldable part 103M is located between two fold lines 103FL1 and 103FL2.


Referring to FIG. 1B, an inner diameter D103LI of the upper part 103U is bigger than an outer diameter D103LO of the lower part 103L. Therefore, the upper part 103U and the lower part 103L can be movable relative to each other.


Accordingly, the adjustable container 100 has at least two states providing different interior volume. In a first state shown in FIG. 1A, the unfoldable part 103M is folded, the upper part 103U surrounds the lower part 103L, and the adjustable container 100 has a first interior volume 100S1. On the other hand, in a second state shown in FIG. 1B, the unfoldable part 103m is unfolded, the upper part 103U is located above the lower part 103L, and the adjustable container 100 has a second interior volume 100S2 much larger than the first interior volume 100S1. In some embodiments, the inside of the adjustable container 100 may have lower air pressure than outside to maintain the folded state of the unfoldable part 103M. The lower air pressure can be made by vacuuming when it is manufactured.


The peripheral wall 103 may be made of materials commonly used in package for instant food such as paper with plastic liner. In other embodiments, the peripheral wall 103 can be made of flexible paper and further comprise stiffener or stiffener material. The stiffener can be employed inside or outside of the adjustable container 100 or embedded in the peripheral wall 103. The stiffener can be located along the fold lines 103FL1 and 103FL2 but not limited to. The stiffener material can be blended with the peripheral wall material during the peripheral wall fabrication. The stiffener or stiffener material can work as a spring force. Thus, once the adjustable container is released by removing the string 107, the unfoldable part 103M is unfold by itself or using a minimum force to unfold.


The sheet-type lid 105 covers the upper opening OPN. The sheet type lid 105 is attached to the top 103T of the peripheral wall 103. The sheet-type lid 105 is a flat shape extending in a plane. The sheet-type lid 105 may comprises a protruding area 105P beyond the outmost of the peripheral wall 103 and extending in the plane. The protruding area 105P can be used to affix the sheet-type lid 105 to the top 103T of the peripheral wall 103 to cover the upper opening OPN again after the sheet-type lid 105 is ripped to add water to the adjustable container 100. The protruding area 105P may be rolled and then engage with an outwardly rolled rim of the top 103T of the peripheral wall 103.


The adjustable container 100 may further comprise at least one string 107 connecting between the sheet-type lid 105 and the floor 101. In the first state shown in FIG. 1A, the string 107 provides tension to keep the unfoldable part 103M folded against elastic force of the unfoldable part 103M. In the second state shown in FIG. 1B, the string 107 can be ripped to unfold the unfoldable part 103M.

According to FIG. 1D, an adjustable container 100 contains instant food such as dry ramen RM and condiment DP. As described in FIGS. 1A to 1C, the adjustable container 100 can have at least two states of interior volumes.


The adjustable container 100 containing instant food can be distributed in the first state. A consumer can partially detach the sheet-type lid 105 from the top side of the peripheral wall 103 and unfold the unfoldable part 103M, by removing the string 107 or manually pulling it, to make the adjustable container 100 have enough space for hot water BW. Then, she can add condiment DP and hot water BW into the adjustable container 100. Thereafter, consumer can make the sheet-type lid 105 cover the upper opening OPN while simmering.



FIG. 2 shows a side view, partly in a sectional view, of an adjustable container 200 according to another embodiment of the present invention.


According to FIG. 2, an adjustable container 200 has a similar structure with the adjustable container 100 shown in FIGS. 1A to 1D, but an unfoldable part 203 comprises multiple folds.


Specifically, an adjustable container 200 comprises a floor 101, a peripheral wall 203, and a sheet-type lid 105. The peripheral wall 203 comprises lower part 203L, a first unfoldable part 203M1, a second unfoldable part 203M2, a third unfoldable part 203M3, and upper part 203U. Each part can be divided by a first to fourth fold lines 203FL1, 203FL2, 203FL3, and 203FL4. The first to fourth fold lines 203FL1, 203FL2, 203FL3, and 203FL4 are formed along circumference of the peripheral wall 203.


An inner diameter of the upper part 203U is bigger than an outer diameter of the lower part 203L. Therefore, the upper part 203U and the lower part 203L can be movable relative to each other.


In a first state shown in FIG. 2, the unfoldable part 203M is folded, the upper part 203U surrounds the lower part 203L, and the adjustable container 200 has a first interior volume 200S1. On the other hand, in a second state, the first to third unfoldable part 203M1, 203M2, and 203M3 are unfolded, the upper part 203U is located above the lower part 203L, and the adjustable container 200 has a second interior volume much larger than the first interior volume 200S1.



FIG. 3 shows a side view, partly in a sectional view, of an adjustable container 300 according to another embodiment of the present invention.


According to FIG. 3, an adjustable container 300 has a similar structure with the adjustable container 100 shown in FIGS. 1A to 1D, but there is a difference that an upper part 303U of a peripheral wall 103 is surrounded by a lower part 303L.


Specifically, an adjustable container 300 comprises a floor 101, a peripheral wall 303, and a sheet-type lid 105. The peripheral wall 303 comprises lower part 303L, a unfoldable part 303M, and upper part 303U. Each part can be divided by a first and second fold lines 303FL1 and 303FL2. The first and second fold lines 303FL1 and 303FL2 are formed along circumference of the peripheral wall 303.


An outer diameter 303UO of the upper part 303U is bigger than an inner diameter D303LI of the lower part 303L. Therefore, the upper part 203U and the lower part 203L can be movable relative to each other. The outer diameter 303UO here indicates the widest diameter except a top 303T of the peripheral wall 303.


In a first state shown in FIG. 3, the unfoldable part 303M is folded, the upper part 303U is surrounded by the lower part 303L, and the adjustable container 300 has a first interior volume 300S1. On the other hand, in a second state, the unfoldable part 303M is unfolded, the upper part 303U is located above the lower part 303L, and the adjustable container 300 has a second interior volume much larger than the first interior volume 300S1.



FIG. 4 shows a side view, partly in a sectional view, of an adjustable container 400 according to another embodiment of the present invention.


According to FIG. 4, an adjustable container 200 has a similar structure with the adjustable container 300 shown in FIG. 3, but an unfoldable part 403 comprises multiple folds.


Specifically, an adjustable container 200 comprises a floor 101, a peripheral wall 403, and a sheet-type lid 105. The peripheral wall 403 comprises upper part 403U, a first to third unfoldable part 403M1, 403M2, and 403M3, and lower part 403L. Each part can be divided by a first to fourth fold lines 403FL1, 403FL2, 403FL3, and 403FL4. The first to fourth fold lines 403FL2, 403FL3, and 403FL4 are formed along circumference of the peripheral wall 403.


In a first state shown in FIG. 4, the first to third unfoldable part 403M1, 403M2, and 403M3 are folded, the upper part 403U is surrounded by the lower part 203L, and the adjustable container 400 has a first interior volume 400S1. On the other hand, in a second state, the first to third unfoldable part 203M1, 203M2, and 203M3 are unfolded, the upper part 403U is located above the lower part 403L, and the adjustable container 400 has a second interior volume much larger than the first interior volume 400S1.

According to FIGS. 5A and 5B, an adjustable container 500 has a similar structure with the adjustable container 300 shown in FIGS. 1A to 1D, but an unfoldable part 503 comprises accordion-shaped folds.


Specifically, the peripheral wall 503 comprises lower part 503L, a unfoldable part 503M, and upper part 503U. The unfoldable part 503M has an accordion-shaped folds along circumferential fold lines of the peripheral wall 503. In FIGS. 5A and 5B, the unfoldable part 503 comprises the accordion-shape folds having more than one fold but is not limited to. In other embodiment, the unfoldable part 503 may comprise only one accordion-shape fold.


In FIGS. 5A and 5B, a diameter of the upper part 503U is bigger than that of the lower part 503L but is not limited to. The diameters of the upper part 503U, the unfoldable part 503M, and lower part 503L may be various. In other embodiments, a diameter of the upper part 503U is the same as or smaller than that of the lower part 503L.


In a first state shown in FIG. 5A, the unfoldable part 503M is folded and the adjustable container 500 has a first interior volume 500S1. On the other hand, in a second state, the unfoldable part 503M is unfolded and the adjustable container 500 has a second interior volume 500S2 much larger than the first interior volume 500S1.


The adjustable container 500 may further comprise at least one string 107 connecting between the sheet-type lid 105 and the floor 501. In the first state shown in FIG. 5A, the string 107 provides tension to keep the unfoldable part 503M folded against elastic force of the unfoldable part 503M. In the second state shown in FIG. 5B, the string 107 can be ripped to unfold the unfoldable part 503M.



FIG. 6A shows an exploded perspective view of an adjustable container 600 according to another embodiment of the present invention.

According to FIGS. 6A to 6D, an adjustable container 600 has a similar structure with the adjustable container 100 shown in FIGS. 1A to 1D; however, a fold direction of a first unfoldable part 603F located in a peripheral wall 603 is different and the adjustable container 600 further comprises a second unfoldable part 601F. Also, a sheet-type lid 605 may have a third unfoldable part 605F.


Specifically, the adjustable container 600 comprises a floor 601, a peripheral wall 603, and a sheet-type lid 605.


The peripheral wall 603 extends upwardly from the floor 601 and terminates at an upper opening OPN1. The peripheral wall 603 defines interior volume of the adjustable container 600. A structure of the floor 101 and the peripheral wall 103 may be a box shape with an upper opening OPN1 but is not limited to.


The peripheral wall 603 may comprise first side walls 603S1 facing each other and second side walls 603S2 facing each other and connecting with edges of the first side walls 603S1. The peripheral wall 603 comprises a first unfoldable part 603F in the first side walls 603S1 formed along first fold lines in a direction (Y-direction) from the floor 601 to the upper opening OPN1. A top side of the peripheral wall 604 comprises a top side of the first unfoldable part 603F. Due to a zig-zag shape of the first unfoldable part 603F, the upper opening OPN1 also has a zig-zag shape from a top view.


The floor 601 comprises the second unfoldable part 601F formed along second fold lines in a direction (Z-direction). In some embodiments, each of the first fold lines may correspond to each of the second fold lines, respectively. In other words, each of the first fold lines and each of the second fold lines may share a common plane. The first and the second unfoldable part 603F and 601F may be accordion-shaped but is not limited to.


The adjustable container 600 may further comprise at least one string 607 to keep the first and the second unfoldable part 603F and 601F folded. The string 607 crosses the first unfoldable part 603F, and each end of the string 607 fixes at each side of the first unfoldable part 603F. Specifically, each end of the string 607 fixes at each side of the second side wall 601S2. In the first state shown in FIG. 6A, the string 607 provides tension to keep the first and second unfoldable part 603F and 601F folded, and in the second state shown in FIG. 6D, the string 607 is ripped. In other embodiment, a string may be formed to cross the second unfoldable part 601F.


The sheet-type lid 605 comprises a flat part 605S and a third unfoldable part 605F. The third unfoldable part 605F comprises at least one fold along a third fold line in the same direction of the second fold lines of the second unfoldable part 601F. A bottom side of the sheet-type lid 605 directly contacts with the top side of the first unfoldable part 603F. In the first state shown in FIG. 6A, the third unfoldable part 605F is folded, but the bottom area of the third unfoldable part 605F is enough to wholly cover the upper opening OPN1. In the second state shown in FIG. 6D, the third unfoldable part 605F is unfolded to cover the whole area of the upper opening OPN2 which is larger than that in the first state.


Specifically, one can detach the sheet-type lid 605 from the top side of the peripheral wall 603; unfold the first and the second unfoldable part 603F and 601F to make the adjustable container 600 have enough space for water; and add condiment and hot water into the adjustable container 600. Thereafter, as described in the second state shown in FIG. 6D, the third unfoldable part 605F can be unfolded to cover the upper opening OPN2 while simmering.

FIGS. 7C and 7D show a top view of the adjustable container 700 of FIG. 7A when the adjustable container 700 is released. In FIG. 7D. an unfoldable part 705F of the sheet-type lid 705 is released to cover an opening OPN.



FIG. 7E show a side view of the adjustable container 700 of FIG. 7D when the adjustable container 700 and the unfoldable part 705F of the sheet-type lid 705 are released to cover an opening OPN.


According to FIGS. 7A to 7E, an adjustable container 700 has a similar structure with the adjustable container 600 shown in FIGS. 6A to 6D; however, a sheet-type lid 705 further comprises a perforated line 705P and works differently when it covers an upper opening OPN.


Specifically, the sheet-type lid 705 comprises a flat part 705S and an unfoldable part 705F. The unfoldable part 705F may comprise a number of folds enough to cover the upper opening OPN when the unfoldable part 705F is released.


The sheet-type lid 705 further comprises perforated line 705P between the unfoldable part 705F and the flat part 7055. The unfoldable part 705F and the flat part 7055 can be separated from each other along the perforated line 705P when the first state shown in FIGS. 7A and 7B switches to the second state shown in FIG. 7C.


After adding condiment and hot water through upper opening OPN, the unfoldable part 705F can be extended to cover the upper opening OPN and even the flat part 705S. The bottom area of the unfoldable part 705F is the same as or larger than that of the upper opening OPN in the second state. A protruding part 705P can be folded or rolled inwardly to be locked.



FIG. 8A shows a side view of the adjustable container 800 according to another embodiment of the present invention.



FIG. 8B shows a side view of the adjustable container 800FIG. 8A when a wing 811 is removed and a handle 809 is formed.


According to FIGS. 8A and 8B, an adjustable container 800 has a similar structure with the adjustable container 100 shown in FIGS. 1A to 1D, but the adjustable container 800 comprises a handle 809 which can also function as a string explained in FIGS. 1A to 1D.


Specifically, referring to FIG. 8A, the adjustable container 800 comprises the handle 809 attached to a peripheral wall 103. One end of the handle 809 fixes at a first point close to a top of the peripheral wall 103, and the other end of the handle 809 fixes at a second point close to a bottom of the peripheral wall 101.


The adjustable container 800 further comprises a wing 811. The wing 811 affixes a third point on the handle 809 between the first and the second point and provides tension to keep a unfoldable part 103M folded.


Referring to FIG. 8B, the wing 811 can be removed to release the unfoldable part 103M, and at the same time, the handle 811 now can be used the way it is supposed to be used as a handle.



FIG. 9 shows a side view of a package 900 according to another embodiment of the present invention.


According to FIG. 9, a package 900 has a similar structure with the adjustable container 100 shown in FIGS. 1A to 1D, but it comprises a strap 909 surrounding the adjustable container 100. The strap 909 can compress an unfoldable part to keep folded.


In other embodiments, the unfoldable part 103M can be compressed by a plastic wrap wrapping the adjustable container 100 instead of or together with the strap 909.


In other embodiments, the strap 909 or/and the wrap may be applied to any one of the adjustable containers 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, and 900 described in FIGS. 1A to 9.



FIG. 10 shows devices that may be attached to any one of the adjustable containers 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, and 900 described in FIGS. 1A to 9 to sense temperature or time for cooking instant food.


While the invention has been shown and described with reference to different embodiments thereof, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that variations in form, detail, compositions and operation my be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the accompanying claims.

Claims
  • 1. An adjustable container for instant food, the adjustable container comprising: a floor;a peripheral wall extending upwardly from the floor, terminating at an upper opening, and defining interior volume, the peripheral wall having a first unfoldable part formed along at least two first fold lines,a sheet-type lid covering the upper opening, andwherein the adjustable container has at least two states: a first state that the first unfoldable part is folded and the adjustable container has a first interior volume, anda second state that the first unfoldable part is unfolded and the adjustable container has a second interior volume bigger than the first interior volume.
  • 2. The adjustable container of claim 1, wherein the at least two first fold lines form along circumference of the peripheral wall, and wherein the peripheral wall comprises upper part contacting the sheet-type lid and lower part contacting the floor, andwherein an inner diameter of the upper part is bigger than an outer diameter of the lower part, andwherein, in the first state, the upper part surrounds the lower part, and in the second state, the upper part is located above the lower part.
  • 3. The adjustable container of claim 2, wherein the adjustable container further comprises at least one string connecting between the sheet-type lid and the floor, and wherein in the first state, the string provides tension to keep the first unfoldable part folded, andin the second state, the string is ripped.
  • 4. The adjustable container of claim 1, wherein the at least two first fold lines form along circumferential direction of the peripheral wall, and wherein the peripheral wall comprises upper part and lower part, and an outer diameter of the upper part is smaller than an inner diameter of the lower part, andwherein, in the first state, the lower part surrounds the upper part, and in the second state, the upper part moves upward.
  • 5. The adjustable container of claim 1, wherein the at least two first fold lines are formed along circumferential direction of the peripheral wall, and wherein the first unfoldable part comprises accordion-shaped folds.
  • 6. The adjustable container of claim 6, wherein the adjustable container further comprises at least one string connecting between the sheet-type lid and the floor, and wherein in the first state, the string provides tension to keep the first unfoldable part folded, andin the second state, the string is ripped.
  • 7. The adjustable container of claim 1, wherein the at least two first fold lines are formed along a direction from the floor to the upper opening, and wherein from a top view, a first area of the upper opening in the first state is smaller than a second area of the upper opening in the second state.
  • 8. The adjustable container of claim 7, wherein the floor comprises a second unfoldable part formed along at least two second fold lines, and wherein in the first state, the second unfoldable part is folded, and in the second state, the second unfoldable part is unfolded.
  • 9. The adjustable container of claim 7, wherein each of the at least two first fold lines correspond to each of the at least two second fold lines.
  • 10. The adjustable container of claim 7, wherein a top side of the peripheral wall comprises a top side of the first unfoldable part, and a bottom side of the sheet-type lid directly contacts with the first unfoldable part.
  • 11. The adjustable container of claim 7, wherein each of the top side of the first unfoldable part and the upper opening comprises a zig-zag shape.
  • 12. The adjustable container of claim 7, wherein the sheet-type lid comprises a flat part and a third unfoldable part, and in the first state, the third unfoldable part is folded, and in the second state, the third unfoldable part is unfolded.
  • 13. The adjustable container of claim 7, wherein in the first state, a bottom side of the third unfoldable part is attached to a top side of the peripheral wall.
  • 14. The adjustable container of claim 7, wherein an area of a bottom side of the flat part is smaller than the second area.
  • 15. An adjustable container of claim 7, the adjustable container further comprises at least one string, and wherein each end of the string fixes at each side of the first unfoldable part,wherein in the first state, the string provides tension to keep the first unfoldable part folded, andin the second state, the string is ripped.
  • 16. The adjustable container of claim 7, the sheet-type lid further comprises perforated line between the third unfoldable part and the flat part, and wherein the third unfoldable part and the flat part is separated each other along the perforated line when the first state switches to the second state.
  • 17. The adjustable container of claim 7, wherein an area of the bottom side of the third unfoldable part is the same as or bigger than the second area.
  • 18. An adjustable container of claim 1, wherein the sheet-type lid is a flat shape extending in a plane and comprises a protruding area, and wherein the protruding area is beyond the outmost of the peripheral wall and extending in the plane.
  • 19. The adjustable container of claim 1, the adjustable container further comprises a handle attached to the peripheral wall, and wherein one end of the handle fixes at a first point close to a top of the peripheral wall, and the other end of the handle fixes at a second point close to a bottom of the peripheral wall,the adjustable container further comprises a wing; andwherein the wing affixes a third point in the handle between the first and the second point to the peripheral wall and provides tension to keep the first unfoldable part folded.
  • 20. A package for instant food, the package comprising: the adjustable container of claim 1, anda strap surrounding the container and compressing the first unfoldable part to be kept unfolded.
