Claims
- 1. An adjustable coupling device for coupling a ski boot to a ski, the coupling device having a longitudinal axis comprising:
- a toe binding and a toe binding guide;
- a heel binding and a heel binding guide;
- length adjustment means for altering the distance between the toe binding and the heel binding along the longitudinal axis of the coupling device to accommodate different size ski boots, said length adjustment means having a first drive element connected to said toe binding and a second drive element connected to said heel binding;
- means for synchronously moving said first and second drive elements;
- means for independently moving (a) said toe binding along said toe binding guide in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis, and (b) said heel binding along said heel binding guide in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis;
- means for setting said toe and heel bindings at a position corresponding to the length of the ski boot; and
- attachment means to attach said length adjustment means to a surface of the ski in the area of one of said bindings, the remainder of the coupling device being unattached to the ski so that the remainder of the coupling device can move freely in a direction perpendicular to the surface, whereby the distance between said toe binding and said heel binding remains substantially constant during bending of the ski.
- 2. The coupling device according to claim 1, wherein said attachment means attaches both of said bindings to a surface of the ski.
- 3. The coupling device according to claim 1, wherein said drive elements are movable in opposite directions from each other.
- 4. The coupling device according to claim 3, wherein said length adjustment means additionally includes locking means to lock said first and second drive elements in place.
- 5. The coupling device according to claim 3, wherein at least one of said bindings additionally includes locking means to lock the drive elements associated with the binding in place.
- 6. The coupling device according to claim 1, wherein said attachment means are being formed from a connection element which is deformable perpendicular to the surface of the ski and is resistant to deformation in a direction parallel to the surface.
- 7. The coupling device according to claim 6, wherein the position of the length adjustment means can be altered along the longitudinal axis by adjusting said attachment means.
- 8. The coupling device according to claim 7, wherein said connection element is comprised of two parts connected together by a turn buckle so that the length of said connection element can be altered.
- 9. The coupling device according to claim 7, wherein said attachment means has a plurality of preset positions located along the longitudinal axis.
- 10. The coupling device according to claim 9, wherein said length adjustment means additionally includes locking means for locking the length adjustment means at a particular setting.
- 11. The coupling device according to claim 10, wherein said locking means has a locking plate which is adjustable between a closed position and an open position, wherein said locking means prevents movement of said length adjustment means when placed in said closed position.
- 12. The coupling device according to claim 11, wherein said locking means locks said drive elements against movement in the longitudinal direction as well as in a direction perpendicular to the surface.
- 13. The coupling device according to claim 9, wherein at least one of said bindings includes locking means and a longitudinal guide for guiding said drive elements, said locking means being movable from an engaged position in which said longitudinal guide is locked with respect to said bindings and an unlocked position in which said longitudinal guide is free to move with respect to said bindings.
- 14. The coupling device according to claim 10, wherein said locking means are adjustable between a closed position and are formed by a coupling which is located between said drive elements wherein said coupling is uncoupled when said locking means is in a closed position.
- 15. The coupling device according to claim 14, wherein the coupling is coupled when said locking means are in the open position.
- 16. The coupling device according to claim 15, wherein said locking means are located between the toe and heel bindings.
- 17. The coupling device according to claim 16, wherein said attachment means is located between said drive elements and the ski.
- 18. The coupling device according to claim 13, wherein said attachment means is located between said longitudinal guides and the ski.
- 19. The coupling device according to claim 18, additionally including a height and width guide track which extends in the longitudinal direction and is connected for movement with the ski, and additionally including a locking screw which is located between at least one of said bindings and the longitudinal guide and between the longitudinal guide and said height and width guide track.
- 20. The coupling device according to claim 19, wherein said height and width guide track has a reduced moment of resistance in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the ski.
- 21. The coupling device according to claim 20, wherein said height and width guide track is formed by an approximately T-shaped strip with a web height which is shorter than its shank length.
- 22. The coupling device according to claim 21, wherein said height and width guide track is at least as long as a guide length for said longitudinal guides plus half the difference between the largest and the smallest boot size.
- 23. The coupling device according to claim 22, wherein half the difference between the largest and smallest boot size is approximately 4 cm.
- 24. The coupling device according to claim 22, wherein said height and width guide track is integrally formed as one piece.
- 25. The coupling device according to claim 24, wherein said height and width guide track is integrated into a top layer of the ski surface.
- 26. The coupling device according to claim 25, wherein said height and width guide track is countersunk into the ski surface and forms part of a top belt.
- 27. The coupling device according to claim 26, wherein the length of said longitudinal guides is greater by at least a setting range of the length of said attachment means and the difference between the arc and chord dimension when the ski is bent and a minimum guide length of said bindings.
- 28. The coupling device according to claim 19, wherein said locking means, said attachment means and said locking screw are formed by a bayonet socket.
- 29. The coupling device according to claim 19, wherein said locking means, said attachment means, and said locking screw are formed by a catching screw connection.
- 30. The coupling device according to claim 4, wherein the coupling device includes a release adjustment for setting the release point on said bindings, said locking means, said attachment means and said release adjustment are formed by a worm drive.
- 31. The coupling device according to claim 30, wherein said locking means, said attachment means and said release adjustment are formed by a screw spindle and migrating nut arrangement.
- 32. The coupling device according to claim 30, wherein said length adjustment means, said attachment means and said release adjustment are coupled with a ratchet drive.
- 33. The coupling device according to claim 19, wherein said locking means and said locking screw are coupled with a safety lock which prevents use of the coupling device and projects into the area holding the ski boot.
- 34. The coupling device according to claim 1, wherein said length adjustment means and said attachment means are coupled with a safety lock element which prevents use of the coupling device and projects into the area holding the ski boot.
- 35. The coupling device according to claim 19, wherein said locking means and said locking screw are provided with a locking element which prevents operation of the bindings in the open position.
- 36. The coupling device according to claim 19, wherein said drive elements, said longitudinal guides and said height and width guide track are provided with locking elements of said locking device.
- 37. The coupling device according to claim 4, wherein said locking means, the length adjustment means and the attachment means are provided with locking screws in their end positions in the form of beyond-dead-point locks.
- 38. The coupling device according to claim 36, additionally including a ski brake attached to the ski by means of a releasable connection device.
- 39. The coupling device according to claim 38, wherein said ski brake is attached to said height and width guide track by means of a releasable connection device.
- 40. The coupling device according to claim 38, wherein said ski brake is attached to said connection element by means of a releasable connection device.
