Claims
- 1. An adjustable length upper guide member for a hitch attachment of a tractor comprising an outer tubular guide element and an inner relatively displaceable guide element telescopingly positioned therein, said inner guide element having annular grooves on its outer surface, a housing on said outer guide element, a pair of jaws pivotally mounted within said housing to define first and second arms on each jaw, the first arms of said jaw being engageable with the annular grooves on said inner guide element, said second arms defining actuating cams facing each other, and a first lever having a longer end extending outwardly of said housing and one end extending into said housing and an eccentric portion of said one end with two sides within said housing, one of said sides engageable against the inner surface of said housing and the other of said sides engageable with the actuating cams of said jaws such that when the longer end of the first lever is pivoted said one side of said eccentric portion will apply a force urging the other of said sides against said actuating cams of the jaws to disengage the jaws from the annular grooves on said inner guide element, and a support lever pivotably mounted on said first lever and pivotable with respect to said outer tubular member into a first position wherein a portion of said support lever is engageable with said outer tubular guide member for supporting said first lever in a position in which said jaws are disengaged from said inner guide element grooves and into a second position in which said jaws are engaged with said inner guide element, and means connected to said support lever for pivoting said support lever between said first and second positions.
- 2. An adjustable length upper guide member as claimed in claim 1 wherein said support lever is positioned substantially parallel to said upper guide member against said outer tubular guide element when said jaws are engaged with said inner guide element grooves and being positioned substantially perpendicular to said upper guide element when said jaws are disengaged.
- 3. An adjustable length upper guide member as claimed in claim 2 wherein said support lever has a slot therein, said first lever having a pin received in said slot such that said support lever is pivotally attached to said first lever, said support lever has a first end and said slot extends longitudinally of said support lever, said slot has a first end spaced from said first end of said support lever, said pin being disposed at the first end of said slot when said support lever is pivoted into a position to support said first lever when said jaws are disengaged.
- 4. An adjustable length upper guide member as claimed in claim 3 wherein the distance between said slot first end and said support lever first end determines the open point of said jaws in their disengaged position.
