Claims
- 1. An apparatus for adjusting the position and size of an air inlet to a fuel nozzle comprising:
- a first sheath having a cylindrical outer surface of a first diameter concentric with a first axis,
- a second sheath having a cylindrical inner surface of a second diameter concentric with said first axis, said second diameter greater than said first diameter,
- a first opening formed in said first sheath,
- a second opening formed in said second sheath,
- first means for supporting said first and second sheaths while said first and second sheaths are rotated around said concentric axis to a first position to position said first opening of said first sheath and for securing said first sheath at said first position,
- second means for supporting said second sheath while said second sheath is rotated with respect to said first sheath to a second position to adjust the size of the opening formed by the overlap of said first and second openings and for securing said second sheath at said second position, and
- a nozzle tip body positioned at the end of said first sheath to receive the air passing through said first and second overlapped openings.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said first means includes a support flange having a threaded surface concentric with said first axis for receiving a nut thereon, said nut having a cylindrical surface concentric with said first axis for receiving the cylindrical inner surface of said second sheath wherein said first sheath is positioned by said second sheath concentric with said first axis and wherein said first sheath has a second end which buts against said nozzle tip body.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said second means includes an outer sheath ring with means for securing said outer sheath ring to said nut and against said second sheath.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said nut includes a cylindrical surface concentric with said first axis having threads for receiving said outer sheath ring having corresponding threads and wherein said first sheath has an annular outside ledge for butting up against said second sheath at times said outer sheath ring is tightened on said nut.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said sheath nut includes a cylindrical surface concentric said first axis having threads for receiving said outer sheath ring having corresponding threads for tightening said sheath ring against said second sheath wherein said second end of said second sheath presses against an external air cap, said external air cap positioned over said nozzle tip body and over said first sheath for confining air within said first sheath for flow through said nozzle tip body.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said external air cap is held in place by a set screw secured to said nozzle tip body.
