Claims
- 1. A waste barrier, comprising:
a plurality of substantially parallel tubes of substantially equal length and disposed in a row, each of the plurality of substantially parallel tubes comprising a plurality of casing sections joined end to end, and each of the casing sections having complementary interlocking structure disposed along a longitudinal axis so that each of the casing sections is interlocked with at least one adjacent casing section; and barrier filler substantially filling each of the plurality of substantially parallel tubes and substantially filling interlock spaces formed by the complementary interlocking structure when the plurality of casing sections are interlocked.
- 2. The waste barrier according to claim 19, wherein the plurality of casing sections comprise steel.
- 3. The waste barrier according to claim 1, wherein the barrier filler comprises at least one of: grout; cement; concrete; bentonite-based material; modified cement; polysiloxane; and acrylic polymers.
- 4. The waste barrier according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the plurality of casing sections further comprises at least one sensor embedded therein.
- 5. The waste barrier according to claim 4, wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least one of: presence/concentration sensor; radiation detection and measurement sensor; distribution sensor; joint integrity sensor; migration sensor; and predictive sensor.
- 6. The waste barrier according to claim 4, further comprising a real-time data management system in communication with the at least one sensor.
- 7. The waste barrier according to claim 4, wherein the at least one sensor comprises a predictive sensor capable of sensing changes in the dielectric permeability or permittivity of the barrier filler.
- 8. The waste barrier according to Claim 1, further comprising at least one wall substantially defining at least a portion of a periphery of the waste barrier.
- 9. The waste barrier according to claim 8, wherein the at least one wall comprises a plurality of walls.
- 10. The waste barrier according to claim 9, wherein the plurality of walls comprises at least four walls.
- 11. The waste barrier according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of substantially parallel tubes are respectively emplaced in a plurality of substantially parallel tunnels.
- 12. The waste barrier according to claim 11, wherein at least one of the plurality of substantially parallel tunnels partly intersects at least one other of the plurality of substantially parallel tunnels.
- 13. The waste barrier according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the plurality of substantially parallel tubes comprises means for guiding at least one adjacent substantially parallel tube into a final position.
- 14. The waste barrier according to claim 13, wherein the means for guiding at least one adjacent substantially parallel tube into a final position is incorporated within the complementary interlocking structure.
- 15. The waste barrier according to claim 13, wherein a plurality of the plurality of substantially parallel tubes comprise means for guiding at least one respectively adjacent substantially parallel tubes into final position.
- 16. The waste barrier according to claim 1, wherein a substantial portion of the waste barrier is configured and positioned underneath a zone containing waste.
- 17. The waste barrier according to claim 1, wherein a substantial portion of the waste barrier is configured and positioned underneath a zone containing waste leachate.
