Claims
- 1. A method for recording shipping information comprising:
receiving sender profile information from a customer; adding postal service information to said sender profile information; entering said sender profile information and said postal service information into a computer system; and, encoding and printing said sender profile information and said postal service information in the form of a two-dimensional barcode.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said encoding and printing step further comprises printing said information in the form of a round dater label.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said encoding and printing step further comprises printing said sender profile information and said postal service information in the form of a human-readable text.
- 4. The method of claim 1 further comprising encrypting said sender profile information and said postal service information.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said postal service information comprises employee identification, machine identification, date of mailpiece receipt, time of mailpiece receipt, and location of receipt.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein said sender profile information comprises customer name, customer's street address, customer city, customer state, and customer ZIP Code.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein said encoding and printing step comprises printing said sender profile information and said postal service information directly on a customer mailpiece.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein said encoding and printing step comprises printing said two-dimensional barcode on a mail classification label.
- 9. The method of claim 1 further comprising generating a unique tracking number.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein said unique tracking number is stored within a database.
- 11. A method of enhancing postal security associated with the receipt of postal customer mailpieces comprising:
gathering sender profile information; requesting proof of customer identification; confirming said customer identification; authenticating said sender profile information; adding postal service information to said sender profile information; entering said sender profile information and said postal service information into a computer system; and, encoding and printing said sender profile information and said postal service information in the form of a two-dimensional barcode.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein said confirming step comprises scanning a barcode on said customer identification, submitting indicia to a state licensing authority, and receiving information from said state licensing authority.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein said authenticating step comprises comparing said sender profile information to said information received from said state licensing authority.
- 14. The method of claim 11 wherein said confirming step further comprises submitting a customer's name and address to a state licensing authority; and receiving from said state licensing authority indicia regarding whether said customer's name and address corresponds to current records on file.
- 15. The method of claim 11 further comprising recording and processing an indicia that indicates special handling for suspicious circumstances.
- 16. The method of claim 11 further comprising the step of generating a unique tracking number.
- 17. The method of claim 11 wherein said postal service information comprises employee identification, machine identification, date of mailpiece receipt, time of mailpiece receipt, and location of receipt.
- 18. The method of claim 11 wherein said sender profile information comprises customer name, customer's street address, customer city, customer state, and customer ZIP Code.
- 19. The method of claim 11 further comprising entry of a PIN number by an employee.
