Claims
- 1. A system for decomposing a waste mass, said system comprising:a landfill containing a waste mass a leachate recirculation system having means for collecting leachate from said waste mass, means for storing collected leachate, and means for dripping collected leachate into said waste mass; an air injection system having first means for injecting air into said waste mass, said first injecting means injecting air through said leachate collection means up through said waste mass, and second means for injecting air into said waste mass, said second injecting means injecting air from the top of said waste mass; and a control system for regulating said leachate recirculation system and said air injection system so that temperature of said waste mass is maintained below approximately 140° F. and said waste decomposes aerobically.
- 2. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein said control system maintains the moisture content of said waste mass at roughly 40% 60% by weight.
- 3. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein said second air injecting means further comprises plural vertical wells bored into said waste mass.
- 4. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein said control system further comprises means for monitoring said leachate for acidity, TKN, BOD, COD, metals, and VOCs.
- 5. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein said leachate collection means further comprises leachate cleanout ports, and wherein said first air injection means further comprises:air filters; and blowers, said blowers blowing air through said filters and into said leachate cleanout ports.
- 6. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein said control system maintains the temperature of said waste mass at not less than approximately 120° F.
- 7. A system for decomposing a waste mass, said system comprising:a landfill containing a waste mass a leachate recirculation system having means for collecting leachate from said waste mass, means for storing collected leachate, and means for dripping collected leachate into said waste mass; an air injection system having first means for injecting air into said waste mass, said first injecting means injecting air up through said leachate collecting means; and second means for injecting air into said waste mass, said second injecting means injecting air from the top of said waste mass; and a control system for regulating said leachate recirculation system and said air injection system so that temperature of said waste mass is maintained below approximately 140° F. and said waste decomposes aerobically.
- 8. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein said control system maintains the moisture content of said waste mass at roughly 40% to 60% by weight.
- 9. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein said second air injecting means further comprises plural vertical wells bored into said waste mass.
- 10. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein said control system further comprises means for monitoring said leachate for acidity, TKN, BOD, COD, metals, and VOCs.
- 11. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein said leachate collection means further comprises leachate cleanout ports, and wherein said first air injection means further comprises:air filters; and blowers, said blowers blowing air through said filters and into said leachate cleanout ports.
- 12. The system as recited in claim 7, wherein said control system maintains the temperature of said waste mass at not less than approximately 120° F.
- 13. The system as recited in claim 12, wherein said control system further comprises means for monitoring said leachate for acidity, TKN, BOD, COD, metals, and VOCs.
- 14. A system for decomposing a waste mass, said system comprising:a landfill containing a waste mass a leachate recirculation system having means for collecting leachate from said waste mass, means for storing collected leachate, and means for dripping collected leachate into said waste mass; an air injection system having first means for injecting air into said waste mass, said first injecting means injecting air through said leachate collection means up through said waste mass, and second means for injecting air into said waste mass, said second injecting means injecting air from the top of said waste mass; and a control system for regulating said leachate recirculation system and said air injection system so that temperature of said waste mass is maintained below approximately 140° F. and said waste decomposes aerobically, said control system maintaining the moisture content of said waste mass at roughly 40% to 60% by weight.
- 15. The system as recited in claim 14, wherein said second air injecting means further comprises plural vertical wells bored into said waste mass.
- 16. The system as recited in claim 14, wherein said control system further comprises means for monitoring said leachate for acidity, TKN, BOD, COD, metals, and VOCs.
- 17. The system as recited in claim 14, wherein said leachate collection means further comprises leachate cleanout ports, and wherein said first air injection means further comprises:air filters; and blowers, said blowers blowing air through said filters and into said leachate cleanout ports.
- 18. The system as recited in claim 14, wherein said control system maintains the temperature of said waste mass at not less than approximately 120° F.
