Claims
- 1. A sheet contact pad, including a front and a back end, a side extending from the front to the back end, the side including a sheet contact surface for contacting a sheet moving by the pad in a machine direction and at least one indentation.
- 2. The sheet contact pad of claim 1, wherein the indentation is a groove extending along the machine direction.
- 3. The sheet contact pad of claim 1, wherein the indentation extends from the front to the back end.
- 4. The sheet contact pad of claim 3, wherein the indentation is of a substantially constant width from the front to the back end.
- 5. The sheet contact pad of claim 3, wherein the indentation is of a substantially constant depth along a portion between the front and back end.
- 6. The sheet contact pad of claim 1, wherein the side further includes a non-sheet contacting front surface extending from the front end to the sheet contact surface and extending across at least a portion of the width of the pad.
- 7. The sheet contact pad of claim 1, wherein the side further includes a non-sheet contacting back surface extending from the back end to the sheet contact surface and extending across at least a portion of the width of the pad.
- 8. The sheet contact pad of claim 1, wherein the side further includes a non-sheet contacting front surface extending from the front end to the sheet contact surface and an non-sheet contacting back surface extending from the back end to the sheet contact surface, the non-sheet contacting front and back surface extending across at least a portion of the width of the pad.
- 9. The sheet contact pad of claim 8, wherein the indentation is a groove extending from at least the front surface to at least the back surface.
- 10. The sheet contact pad of claim 9, wherein the groove extends along the machine direction.
- 11. A sheet contact pad, including a front and a back end, a side extending from the front to the back end, the side including a sheet contact surface for contacting a sheet moving by the pad in a machine direction, a front surface extending from the front end to the sheet contact surface, a back surface extending from the back end to the sheet contact surface, an indentation disposed widthwise substantially in the center of the pad and extending lengthwise along the machine direction from at least the front surface to at least the back surface, the front and back surface extending across at least a portion of the width of the pad.
- 12. The sheet contact pad of claim 11, wherein the indentation extends from the front surface to the back surface.
- 13. The sheet contact pad of claim 11, wherein the indentation includes a substantially constant width from the front surface to the back surface.
- 14. The sheet contact pad of claim 11, wherein the indentation includes a substantially constant depth along a portion of the side between the front and back surface.
- 15. The sheet contact pad of claim 11, wherein the front surface extends across at least a portion of the width of the pad.
- 16. The sheet contact pad of claim 11, wherein the back surface extends across at least a portion of the width of the pad.
- 17. The sheet contact pad of claim 11, wherein the front and back surface extends across at least a portion of the width of the pad.
- 18. The sheet contact pad of claim 11, wherein the indentation is a groove extending from the front end to the back end.
- 19. A sheet contact caliper pad, including a front end surface and a back end surface, a side extending from the front to the back end surface, the side including a sheet contact surface for contacting a sheet moving by the pad in a machine direction and at least one indentation which does not contact the sheet and extends from the front end surface to the back end surface.
- 20. The sheet contact caliper pad of claim 19, wherein the indentation is a groove disposed lengthwise along the machine direction.
- 21. A substantially rectangular-shaped sheet contact caliper pad, the pad including a length which is substantially parallel to the machine direction of a moving sheet, a front end surface and a back end surface which are substantially parallel to the cross-direction of the sheet, the pad including a side extending from the front end surface to the back end surface, the side including a sheet contacting surface and a groove disposed lengthwise substantially along the machine direction, extending from at least the front end surface to at least the back end surface and being disposed between the sheet contacting surface.
